The Return to Hogwarts
I flicked my eyes up to his for a moment, before returning them to the newspaper. "Are you going to tell me or do I have to beg?"
Sirius leaned back in his seat, assessing me, before he smirked. "I'd like to see you beg."
The Welcome Feast
"Merlin, I wish they'd hurry up. It's been hours since that pumpkin pasty on the train." Mary said grumpily.
I smirked at her. "If you want, I can try and transfigure a spoon into a carrot or something for you to nibble on."
The First Day Back
"You know, Severus was telling me that this year, we get to study vanishing spells!" Lily exclaimed.
"Oh, did he?" I mused. "Bet you the first thing Snape will try to vanish will be James Potter."
An Awkward Day
"Tut tut," Sirius said patronisingly, "Now what's the magic word?"
I fixed him with a look, trying my hardest to not smile and what I was about to reply with. "Gimme your pestle, arsehole?"
Accusations and Denials
"Jealous?" Sirius sneered, "Just because you've never had a decent fondling from anyone doesn't mean we all have to live in abstinence."
Ouch. I raised an eyebrow. "And how would you know? Last time I checked, I don't divulge all my romantic interactions with you."
"Fun costumes by the way," Remus commented. "I take it you're a Siren, Eva?"
"Supposed to be." I smiled.
Sirius snorted. "Aren't Siren's supposed to be enchanting?"
Hangovers and the Hospital Wing
"And how are you all this fine morning?" James smirked.
"I feel like there's a mandrake residing in my skull. Shrieking. Constantly." I grumbled, and Lily grunted in agreement from her arm-cave.
Sirius sniggered. "Amateurs."
Peter reddened. "I have ridden a broom before."
Sirius smirked at me, leaned in and whispered. "The one time he did ride a broom was with us, and he fell off twenty seconds in."
Deflating Drafts and Dandelions
"Who knows, maybe you'll finally get that decent fondling you've been pining for," Sirius commented wryly, shooting me a sideways look.
"A girl can dream." I pretended to sigh dreamily. He sniggered.
Sparks and Sneezes
"Evanna Inglebee, you are an absolute minx!" Lily informed me as I entered the dormitory later that afternoon.
"I am?" I replied nervously.
Rumours and Reality
"I heard you lot were spying on me. It seems nothing is private anymore." I replied coolly.
"Spying is a strong term." Remus pointed out thoughtfully.
"Anyway, it looked like your hands were doing a lot more wandering than our eyes were." Sirius smirked.
Chinese Chomping Cabbages and Shield Charms
I grinned lazily at Sirius. "Amateurs."
He and James bristled at the insult, gave each other a look, and both raised their wands simultaneously.
"Oh, teaming up are we?" I said coolly. "Fair enough. I suppose that's the only way you'd ever stand a chance."
Powdered Moonstone and Horned Toads
Lily had already opened her letter. "Ooh, it's an invitation to Slughorn's Christmas Party."
"When is it?" Mary asked.
"The week before the end of term. Friday the - " Lily paused to look at the invitation, " thirteenth."
"Ooh, unlucky Friday the Thirteenth." I commented. "Maybe we shouldn't go."
"Think Petunia would like this?" I asked, holding up a strange knitted scarf with green bobbles on it.
Lily raised an eyebrow as she looked at it. "Against the odds, I think you've managed to locate the most hideous item in the whole shop, Evanna."
Friday the Thirteenth
Lily bristled. "Don't be stupid. It's dangerous in there."
James ran a hand through his hair, a casual grin on his face. Apparently he'd grown a lot more confident about the venture in the past five seconds. "Worried I'll get hurt, Evans?"
"You wish, Potter." Lily spluttered as James winked at her.
Explanations and Embellishments
I raised an eyebrow at him. "They would if people bothered to tell the truth about what happened, instead of allowing ridiculous rumours to circulate and embellishing stories."
"Embellish? Me? Pish." James said indignantly.
A Muted Christmas
"I don't know what you mean." Sirius said innocently. "James and I will be on our best behaviour."
I narrowed my eyes suspiciously. "I don't believe you for a second."
The Mysterious Nicknames
"Um, I don't like heights." I admitted, eyeing the ladder warily.
"You what?" Sirius stared at me as he picked the ladder up and opened it up so it stood before us, tall and daunting.
"I'm scared of heights." I said sheepishly.
Sirius narrowed his eyes. "Are you trying to get out of cleaning?"
