There was nothing, nothing but a shell where a heart had once beat.
It was as though dawn had come before the world was ready for it.
With the rising sun, he felt a small amount of determination blossoming within him.
That sort of a distance seemed infinite to her now.
He had to believe that Harry had known what he was doing, walking into that forest.
Where was anyone – or was she the only one left?
Right now, he had to focus his energies on making sure things didn’t get worse until he found her.
Hogwarts was no longer a home.
How could he ever, ever let himself think like that?
But all he wanted, right now, was to be alone.
There was something momentous about this night, and having a part in it, even just being alive to witness it at all.
Logic and reasoning now spoke otherwise.
But who was with him?
Would she always be fighting battles that couldn’t ever be truly won?
Now that he had her again, he would give his whole life to keep her by his side forever.
