Sirius shook my slightly as he laughed. “Remind me again why you’re not a Marauder?”
I woke up next morning to find a note on my pillow. You Love Me!! I recognised Sirius’ handwriting and threw the note out of the window.
“What happened to the silky shorts? I liked them.” She laughed and elbowed me. I traced my fingers across her stomach and felt her heart speed up. The feel of her soft skin brought back a memory…
“If I liked her, how come I can hook up with random girls and not feel bad about it?”
James was looking at Lily like he’d never fully seen her before, “I never knew you could be so spiteful, Evans. You and Snivellus deserve each other.”
“BLACK!” James yelled as he came in. Sirius stood up looking confused and James punched him. I watched as Sirius fell into a chair and James ran up to his room with Lily, Remus and Peter following.
“Jessica, get up. You’re coming with me,”
He pulled his face away from my neck and pouted like a little boy, “But it’s my birthday!” He said with a smirk.
A thousand thoughts went through my head as I tried to figure out exactly what I could have done. Did they know about my fights with Evans? Did they know that I was sleeping in the boys’ dorm? Did they know that Sirius had been kicked out because of me? Did they know I was sneaking out to find him in the middle of the night? My eyes darted over to Sirius and then back to McGonagall as if to confirm my guilt.
I would be lying if I said I wasn’t jealous of their connection but I knew that J only trusted two people and one of them was me. I just had to ignore that the other was my best friend.
“James Potter does not care about anything. If he cared about me, he’d leave Sev alone.” I brought up the one topic we always disagreed on and watched as Jessie turned hostile.
I couldn’t deal with him being awake and seeing me lose control like this. I was going to be brave. He’d spent enough time worrying about me over the past few days and he didn’t need to see me like this. If he saw me like this, he would probably run as far as he could from me.
“SIRIUS ORION BLACK, PUT ME DOWN,” I screamed while banging his back with my fists. He let out a small laugh and I really lost it. “SIRIUS, I SWEAR TO MERLIN, IF YOU DO NOT PUT ME DOWN RIGHT NOW I WILL CUT YOUR HAIR OFF WHILE YOU SLEEP AND I’LL BURN YOUR BROOMSTICK TO ASHES IN FRONT OF YOU!”
I wanted to say something back but I couldn’t find any words. J still had her head down and I could see tears glittering along her cheeks before falling into her lap. I pulled her into my arms and let her cry. She didn’t try to hug me back and her whole body stayed tense.
“Sirius,” My mother called as she pulled me towards her. She had taken the coat off and was wearing robes of the darkest black with her hair pulled into a tighter bun than McGonagall’s. There was a false smile on her face but her eyes remained as cold and hard as they always were when looking at me. I stood awkwardly as my mother hugged me quickly before dropping me like I was dirt.
“I didn’t know you could be such a bitch,”
“I understand that this is hard for you, Miss Potter, but you need to calm down,” McGonagall said sternly.
Before I knew what I was doing, I had reached over and slapped her hard across the face. There was a bright red hand print on her pale skin and the shock was evident in her eyes. “Don’t talk about things you know nothing about,” I hissed before standing and making my way to the door.
I watched as he bent down and whispered something to her unconscious form before kissing her softly on the forehead. He looked at me and turned to leave.
"Don't give up..."
His lips crashed against mine. Our kiss lasted less than ten seconds
