She had been so, so sure that she had them in her bag that time a month ago, when she had met Draco in a dingy hotel. And when she hadn’t, she had not been sensible. She had just decided to do it anyway.
“Wow.” Then Ron’s face split it to a grin. “This is fantastic!” He drew her towards him, kissing her and putting his hand to her stomach. “We have a baby!”
“Hermione,” he said briskly. As if they were work colleges.
“I was just working out some figures late last night and we’re in trouble. The shop is failing.”
Hermione blinked several times, before opening the door wide and saying, “Molly!” with a passable imitation of pleasure.
“Do you remember last summer? Those months before I got preganant, when you were away sourcing for the shop?”
“Don’t you understand yet, Hermione? Not clever enough for this one, are you?” Lavender was practically nose to nose with Hermione. “Why do you think you suddenly fell for Draco Malfoy? Why do you think the Weasley’s shop suddenly failed?” She saw Hermione had her arms wrapped protectively around her stomach. “But THAT – no, not in my plans, not at all. But it will die with you, and then he will be mine again!”
