Weasleys, Carnivals and Determined Fortune Tellers
The lady closed her eyes, her hands caressing the crystal ball as a silence filled the tent.
A noise jolted me from my thoughts: James had come stumbling out of his room, clad in just a pair of boxers and wearing a look of bewilderment that completely matched mine.
An Unexpected Talk
“Look. I know we haven’t really been…… getting along,” James started, a serious look on his face.
Good News and Firewhiskey
My eyes strayed to the empty space of air just to the right of me, knowing that James was following along, hidden under the invisibility cloak.
I watched out of the corner of my eye as he placed his training bag by the door before throwing another glance at me. Our eyes met and he looked away before hurrying out of the room, leaving me in peace.
James nodded in confirmation as he stood up too. “Yup. Sometimes I can read you like a book.”
He was unrelenting; I couldn’t look away from him despite his unforgiving words, the anger in his eyes, directed towards me.
More Quidditch Practice
He bent down again to quickly place a kiss on my lips. There was nothing I could to do stop it. Again, it was simple and chaste but my heart was left beating wildly.
I watched James read the paper, feeling helpless. “It says it takes six months to make it,” James said slowly, his voice rough.
To Be a Friend
“You cannot be serious.” His gaze hardened. He took a step towards me. “If I remember correctly, after that night you were the one who ran from me.”
I curled up against his strong chest. His hands rubbed slow circles on my back and I relaxed into his embrace, letting his warm touch comfort me, making me forget the ache I carried in my heart.
The thought that James had wanted to bring me here and show me this place sent butterflies fluttering frantically through my stomach.
Past and Present
James and I broke apart. As quickly as I had found it, my peace was shattered. I found myself staring at the one person I’d been trying so hard to avoid all these years.
The question had been running through my mind since I’d left Al’s place and I couldn’t hold the words in any longer.
All This Time
“It’s not true,” I finally said. My voice, small and trembling, betrayed my protest. “He—he would have told me.” I swallowed a lump in my throat. “If he had feelings for me, he would have told me,” I said loudly, determined to make James believe me.
He finished his appraisal of me and gave me a glare. “When was the last time you ate?”
I didn’t realize my eyes had closed at his words until I felt his hand in mine. His touch became the only thing I was aware of. His fingers brushed mine gently, curling as if wanting to intertwine our fingers together.
James abruptly stepped back. He tore his eyes away from mine, turning to stare out at the vast field in front of us. “I needed a place to think,” he said, repeating my previous words back to me.
