Rose laughed distractedly, gazing around her father at the blonde-haired boy, Scorpius Malfoy. She had heard her parents discussing the Malfoy family on a few occasions, but she had never seen them before. She still wasn’t exactly sure what made her parents dislike them, but from what she gathered, they were somehow linked to the Dark Arts. She continued to stare absently at the boy, wondering if he would be like those before him.

He was nice, smart, funny, moderately talented, and reasonably attractive. He wasn’t the star Quidditch player like his elder brother, and he wasn’t outrageously popular like his younger sister. He wasn’t a genius like Rose; he wasn’t as funny as Hugo; he hadn’t found true love like Teddy and Victoire. He was simply Albus Potter, Rose’s favorite cousin and very best friend.

Quinn rolled her eyes. “But seriously, how many detentions do you think I would get for messing up Weasley’s pretty little face?”

“What might you be doing out here at two o’clock in the morning?” Rose asked once he drew nearer.
Scorpius had been sure that was what she was going to say, he had known it and braced himself for it. But hearing her say the words herself made his head spin and his heart ache.
