The darkness inside her mind clings to the past, because in these last moments it is all she has.
No matter how poisonous he is, she cannot let Gideon out of her life. Sometimes she doesn’t even want him to leave.
He allows her to forget the pain and the hurt, the waiting and the tears. The bad times are insignificant compared to the flying feeling he gives her.
The worries increase, the guilt doubles and in those dark times it’s Ted that she needs.
Red Sky at Night
He does not make to wipe away her tears, or draw her to him; instead, they sit only a few inches apart as they try to silently close the distance between them.
Her pride shaken, she has lowered herself to grovelling at her sister’s feet. Oh, how her mother would be ashamed.
“I don’t know,” she admits warily. “I don’t know how I feel anymore. I love you, I know that much, but I can’t take the unreliability anymore.”
Over and over again she asks herself why she did it, why she gave into him yet again.
He reminds her of everything that is dishonest about her.
An Early Visitor
Perhaps he, too, realises that her and Gideon’s paths are so tightly interlinked that nothing can prevent them crossing
If he could take every word Gideon has ever written and burn it he would. But although paper can be destroyed, love cannot.
I want us both to be happy.
She hopes he will say nothing, that he will walk away wordlessly and leave her to break free. But he will not.
It is the only thing she could have said to save them all.
