“Same,” Cassiopeia said with the same icy tone. Draco noticed that she was alone. Many of the young women sent to meet him were with parents or servants. He looked over to his mother who looked very nervous about the frigid greetings between the would-be couple.
Rude and Arrogant
Her insult was a blow to his ego. Who would prefer to marry a Mudblood than him? One of the most eligible pure blood and still single young women would rather marry a Mudblood than him? How incredibly bizarre was that? One thing that he did know was that she was not a Muggle lover like the Weasleys.
After a while, Draco took her hand courteously. Cassiopeia looked at him for a moment and dropped their hands so that they were held between them casually. The odd sensation ran through Draco’s body once more as he squeezed Cassie’s hand. As she let go, Cassie turned to face Draco. She grasped both of his hands in hers and looked at him.
“Oh, fantastic!” Narcissa said as gleefully as a Malfoy could speak. “I’ll start sending out the engagement announcements as soon as possible!”
Back and Forth
“Are you, erm, are you okay?” he said awkwardly. Sensitivity was not something that Draco was particularly good at. He was typically snide and insincere when it came to other people’s feelings. Again, Cassie didn’t answer him. Draco knew that she wouldn’t answer him for quite a while, and subconsciously looked to his left forearm.
“I figured that much out,” he said as Cassie kissed his cheek, her hand finding the cheek she hadn’t kissed. Her warm lips put a different kind of spell over Draco. It was as though she wanted to seduce him with each little touch she gave him.
“Draco Malfoy: Prince Charming, hero,” Cassie joked as he escorted her to the guest bedroom. She did not let go of his cold hand, but instead shut the door with her spare one and sat down on the bed.
“Look at me,” he said, though his voice was slightly bitter. Cassie still didn’t turn to face him as she held his hand tighter to her midsection. He sighed as she moved her head back onto the feather stuffed pillow on her side of the bed. She also took her hand from its awkward position on his abdomen. Luckily for Draco, she kept his hand tight against her midsection. The way she was holding it made him think that she was afraid he’d let go if she didn’t.
He Died Here
“Do you think that I’m some sort of doll for you to play with and then put away when you’re done? I’m not a toy, Draco. I’m a person with feelings. I’m a person who wants to be loved rather than toyed around with then put away. And I don’t want to be here.” Tears welled in her eyes as she said these words. She wasn’t done, though, for she opened her mouth. “I just want you to love me.”
He could think of nothing to do but hold her in a somewhat comforting hug. Nothing in the world was right at that moment. The most passionate person that Draco knew had succumbed to sadness and one of the coldest people he knew was trying to be kind and gentle. That person was himself. He gently fingered her smooth, chocolate waves as he whispered ‘shh’ in her ear softly. Slowly, her sobs stopped and she fell asleep wrapped in his arms. This left Draco to question her silently.
