3 Denial at its finest

"What? C'mon Jayde. I'm not going to throw my first time away. Don't tell me you've done it with Amos... have you?"

Jayde fumbled with her blue Ravenclaw tie, her hands fidgeting around the edges and seems as she shifted her gaze to the floor.

"Ohmigod you have! Oh Jayde, why?" Sydney sat down beside Jayde on her bed and put her arms around her. "Why?"

4 Harsh accusations

"So the properties of moonstone are... old age and prosperity, and it's combined best with dragon blood, right?" asked Kingsley, later that week as they were in the common room working on their potions homework.

Wrong... the properties are youthfulness and life, and it's dragon tooth not dragon blood.' she thought vigorously.

5 A run in with Black

"I know!" she exclaimed happily. "So are you and Kingsley going?"

"Yes." the first word uttered from Kingsley all morning. His deep voice cracked slightly, his gaze held on the food in front of him, as though he hadn't said anything at all.

Thanks for asking me...'

"Great! So I'll see you two there?" Ashlynn chirped.

6 Tempers and lies

"What was with that look Sirius gave you?" she suddenly inquired, rising from her seat to grasp a hairbrush.

"What look?" asked Syndey innocently, twirling a strand of her raven hair in her fingers.

"You know exactly what I'm talking about." she said seriously, running the brush gently through her bleached-blonde hair.

8 A daring escape

"Ewww... is that the tea shop that looks like cupid sneezed on it?" Peter asked, his nose scrunched up.

9 And it all falls apart

She knew she'd find him here. She ran into Remus' arms, sobbing uncontrollably, unable to communicate. He stood still for a moment, stunned, but slowly wrapped his arms around her shivering body.

"What happened?" he asked softly, his soothing voice calming through her hiccoughing sobs.

10 A desolate discovery

"Hey guys..." she greeted, unsure if Remus had told them what she had done. "Have you guys um... seen Jayde?"

They both looked at her, hestitantly decided whether or not to talk to her, when Peter elbowed James' stomach.

11 The final goodbye

"You and Remus, then."

Sydney glared at him, shaking her head. "What about Remus?"

"He's hurting just as much as you are, Sydney. More than you know. I think you should talk to him."

12 Epilogue: The white rose

His caramel eyes drifted along the page of purchases, fatigue and boredom overwhelming him. The overhead fan whirred softly above him; the paper in front of him gently lifting with the air blowing. The clock ticked beside him, the hour hand just past one in the morning.
