She pulled away and smiled up at him, brushing a strand of hair away from his eyes. He leaned forward, and I felt a searing pain in my chest as he pressed his lips against hers. She adhered to his embrace, kissing him back with those rich, red lips of hers. I turned away, staring outside at the foggy grounds. My blood boiled. I should be used to her getting intimate with him by now. I should be able to swallow my feelings, hide them away.
As far as I know, I do not know a Jared. I do not know the person whom everyone talks about. I do not know the person whom they think I was dating for a few years. I have never had a boyfriend before. Jayson is my first. As far as I know, I was not slapped by a guy name Jared nor did I walk out on him. Like I said, I do not know who he is!
I took a moment to regain my composure and turned to find Amelia staring at the doors Jayson had just disappeared around. I stepped toward her and placed my hands on her arms, inspecting her closely, looking for any signs of damage. She was fine. On the outside, at least. Her eyes seemed to snap onto mine, startled at my touch. They were filled with fear and she looked on the brink of crying. I brushed a lock of hair out of her face. “Are you OK?” It was a stupid question, but somehow nothing else came to my head.
Guilt struck as I remembered the pain in his eyes after I claimed he had treated me the same way. I knew it wasn’t the same or near enough to be the same. I just needed to be left in peace. Jared would never do such a thing. On the other hand, nor would Jayson. I had to admit that I had acted in such a way making him think that I actually wanted to – yeah. I repeated this to myself a million times hoping that maybe I would believe myself at some stage.
I stroked her palm gently with my thumb. “I love you too.” She gave me a sad, calculating look. “But do you really?” She asked, her voice quieter than ever. I inclined my head sideways in question. She shuffled closer to me, brushing a stray strand of hair out of my eyes. “Jared, do you really love me the same way I love you?” She whispered.
“You forgave him. Just like that. You know what Trent’s like. Give him a week and he will have you cornered and alone again, repeating everything he did the other night.”
