Part 1 - The Past Always Haunts
Gorgeous banner made by the talented midnight_cityscape. They had gone through what no parent should ever have to endure; the loss of a child. But their suffering and self-blame had gone on long enough. Draco is determined to win Hermione’s heart back, before he lost her entirely. But one stormy night Hermione begins to hear baby Katie crying for her and ventures out to find her. Has Hermione gone mad or is Katie really alive? **PART 5 IN WAITING**
Part 2 - Lost Hopes
He imagined Hermione finding their daughter. Katie would giggle and shout out, “I tricked you mummy didn’t I?” They would walk back to the house as a family. Everything would be like it used to be. Hermione would love him again. They would have Katie back. Everything would be perfect. But it could never be. Katie would never return to them and Hermione could never love him like she had when Katie had been alive.
Part 3 - Believing
The funny thing was…he too could hear a child’s cries as though it was coming from just outside. His heart suddenly jumped into his throat. He could hear the crying too! Had he become mad also?
Part 4 - Bittersweet Memories
Hermione dropped to her knees next to Draco who was trying desperately to find a pulse. Things were going by like a blur. She did not understand what was going on. All she knew was she was sweating profusely and Katie wouldn’t wake up.
Part 5 - Moving On
He stood and looked down at Hermione and the little girl in her arms. So his wife had a child in her arms again…but it was not his child. It was not her child. It was not their child. It was not Katie. She was not his blonde little girl whom they had brought together into this world. She was somebody else’s child.
Putting it back together again
Hardly noticing that he had been holding his breath, Draco released the air that he had trapped in his lungs the moment he had seen Hermione run away. Hadn’t that always been his fear? Hermione running away from him and never turning back... the idea still haunted him even though he knew that she no longer thought he was a monster like she had when they were in school.
