DISCLAIMER:: ONCE AGAIN, I do NOT own any of these characters. They are J. K. Rowling's. The song isn't mine, either. It's Bon Jovi "I'd Die for You." Draco sat at his desk. He couldn’t believe the things that the Weasel had asked. He’d assumed that he would’ve asked if Draco and Hermione were sleeping together when she and the Weasel were married. But he hadn’t. He hadn’t asked anything of the sort. He’d asked questions that Draco refused to ask himself, afraid of the answers. And he’d answered them, honestly. Truth be told, he wasn’t afraid of his father’s reaction if he’d find out about Hermione and his son. What Draco feared was what Lucius would do to Hermione. Draco could, and would, face all of the Unforgivables at once for his Hermione, but he knew that his father knew better than that. His father knew that the way to break a man, one had to attack the woman he loved. And Draco feared for his dear Hermione. Lucius Malfoy was not one to be taken lightly. After Saint Potter had sent him to Azkaban, Lucius had changed. And not for the better, either. He’d become more evil, more sadistic, more dangerous. Draco had not been home when his father had broken out of the prison all those years ago. Lucius had stayed at Malfoy Manor until Potter killed the Dark Lord in Draco’s seventh year at Hogwarts. Then, Lucius had gone on the run. Amazingly, he’d kept his hold over his son. Draco knew that he was out there, monitoring his actions. And that, sooner or later, he would find out about Draco and Hermione. He would not be pleased. Draco sat at his desk long after the sun set. He remembered vaguely that he was supposed to meet Hermione for something, but he couldn’t bring himself to stand up. His thoughts raced through his mind. How could he be with Hermione and not risk her safety? He could guarantee that he’d love Hermione forever, and yes, he would face his father for her sake, but he couldn’t guarantee that she would be unscathed through it all. Draco tried not to think about what would happen if his father discovered Draco’s “treachery” and came after Hermione. But he couldn’t help it. His father haunted his every waking moment. Draco could not, would not subject Hermione to a life of hiding. She deserved better than that. If you could see inside my heart Then you would understand Slowly, a plan formed. He knew that if Potter and Weaselby discovered what he would be doing, that he was a dead man. He fought back tears. Hermione’s heart would be broken if he just disappeared. But he knew that if he went to her to explain, that she would immediately say that she would face it for him. That it didn’t matter. That she would stand by his side, no matter what. And that’s what Lucius would be counting on. Draco would not let his father kill her. He would rather live alone and dream of her, than know that he caused her any pain at the hands of his father. I’d never mean to hurt you Baby, I’m not that kind of man Quickly, he threw his belongings into his trunk. He wanted to be as far from Hermione as he could be by morning. He couldn’t, wouldn’t risk her safety for his own selfish desires. I might not say I’m sorry Yeah I might talk tough sometimes He looked around the room for anything he might’ve missed. Nope. He debated leaving her a note, explaining himself. But he couldn’t be sure that his father wouldn’t find it first. He decided against it. She was clever; she’d figure it out. And I might forget the little things Or keep you hanging on the line He latched his trunk and took one last look at his picture of Hermione. His Hermione. It killed him to leave her like this, especially all that he’d said to Boy Wonder and his sidekick this afternoon, but he knew it was for the best. Right? In a world that don’t know Romeo & Juliet Boy meets girl and promises we can’t forget We are cast from Eden’s gate with no regrets Into the fire we cry As he turned to the door, he heard it open. He looked up and into a pair of milk chocolate eyes. Hermione ran to him and wrapped her arms around his torso. She buried her face into his chest and sobbed. “I-I knew th-that you w-would try t-to l-leave,” she hiccupped. “But I won’t let you! I won’t let you bear this alone!” Draco stood there, shocked for a moment. Then, he wrapped his arms around her slender body and held her close. He let the tears run down his face as he kissed the top of her head over and over. What was he thinking? He could never leave her. I’d die for you I’d cry for you I’d do anything I’d lie for you You know it’s true Baby I’d die for you I’d die for you I’d cry for you If it came right down to me and you You know it’s true, Baby, I’d die for you “Hermione, oh, Hermione,” he whispered her name over and over. She looked up at him, and he kissed each tear as it escaped her beautiful eyes. Then he broke down completely. Sobs racked his body. All the pain and all the fear he’d bottled up for years spilled out. The thought that he might’ve had to live without her…it terrified him. More than his father terrified him. Hermione held him close, comforting him. She wondered if he’d ever cried before that moment. She was amazed that she was the one that he chose to love. She, Hermione Granger. Little Miss Teacher’s Pet. Little Miss Know-It-All. Little Miss My-Blood-May-Not-Be-Pure-But-I’ll-Prove-That-I’m-Better-Than-You-Anyway. All she knew now was that he needed her now, and she was not about to abandon him. Lucius be damned. Harry and Ron could go to hell. The man she loved needed her; that was all that mattered. After a few long moments, Draco managed to compose himself and looked down at Hermione. Her face was as tear-stained as his own. She was positively beautiful. “Hermione, I…I’m sorry. I’m sorry that I’m so weak…I--“ “Shhh….” She cut him off. “Don’t speak. Just hold me.” He lifted her up and carried her over to the bed. He laid her gently on top of the blankets, then crawled next to her. He wrapped his arms around her and she buried her face into his strong chest once again. I might not be a savior And I’ll never be a king I might not send you roses Or buy your diamond rings At that moment, Draco didn’t see himself as Draco Malfoy, son of a Death Eater, rich and powerful, respected and feared. He saw himself as Draco Malfoy, a scared little boy, with no true friends, pitied and alone, the Draco that no one had ever seen before, including Hermione. But that didn’t matter. She’d seen it, and she still accepted him. But did she still love him? Was she doing this out of love, or out of pity? He had to know. But if I could see inside you Maybe I’d know just who we are ‘Cause our love is like a hunger Without it we would starve “Hermione…” She looked up at him. Draco took one look into those chocolate eyes and immediately knew the answer to his question. The love in those eyes was enough to melt any heart of ice, and he knew that the love was for him. She loved him. Hermione Granger loved him. Emotions welled up inside of him. He couldn’t help himself; he had to kiss her. He leaned over and pressed his lips gently against hers. It wasn’t a fiery, passionate kiss like before; it was a soft, gentle, loving kiss. He poured every drop of emotion in him into that kiss. And she kissed back. She kissed back. Great Merlin, she kissed back. Draco’s head spun. In that moment, he knew that everything was going to be okay. In a world that don’t know Romeo & Juliet Boy meets girl and promises we can’t forget We are cast from Eden’s gate with no regrets Into the fire we cry He held her long into the night. Eventually, they fell asleep in each other’s arms, still dressed. Draco woke up before she did; he always did. He loved watching her sleep. She looked so peaceful…so heavenly…so angelic. He kissed her forehead as she slept, and pulled her closer to him. His father be damned. He loved Hermione Granger. And she loved him back. I’d die for you I’d cry for you I’d do anything I’d lie for you You know it’s true Baby, I’d die for you I’d die for you I’d cry for you If it came right down to me and you You know it’s true, Baby, I’d die for you… “I’ll never let you go…” he whispered, “I promise.”
