Chapter One Drifting Back
I’m standing on a bridge I’m waiting in the dark I thought that you’d be here by now There’s nothing but the rain No footsteps in the ground I’m listening, but there’s no sound Rain fell hard against the glass windows and water lightly dripped down the pane and into the train compartment. Sake watched as the train moved by her and people bustled by, but no one entered her compartment. With a huge sigh Sake slipped on her headphones and closed her eyes. Isn’t anyone trying to find me? Won’t somebody come take me home? Sake took her headphones off and threw them over to another seat. This song wasn’t helping her situation. ‘Nothing can help my situation.’ In desperation she told herself and curled her knees to her chin. “I hate this.” In this situation anyone would have done this, but why this place? It’s a damn cold night Trying to figure out this life Won’t you take me by the hand? Take me somewhere new I don’t know who you are but I “Ergh!” A boy dressed in a black polo shirt, loose fitting jeans and a pair of sneakers walked into the compartment and slammed the door behind himself. His shaggy brown hair hung in his eyes as he looked at Sake with glazed over eyes. “This seat taken?” I’m with you “No.” The boy sat down next to Sake and flipped his hair out of his eyes and put on a pair of glasses with thin wire frames and small oval lenses that were much smaller than the ones Harry wore. I’m looking for a place I’m searching for a face Is anybody here I know? Cause nothing’s going right And everything’s a mess And no one likes to be alone “Names Shaunt Sharf.” Shaunt offered his hand to Sake and she shook it. A warm sensation went from her feet to her head as his hand enveloped hers in a handshake. “Sake Imai.” With a weak, but charming smile Sake looked briefly at the boy then rested her head on her knees again and stared into space. Isn’t anyone trying to find me? Won’t somebody come take me home? “So, are you new here?” “Yeah, but I left to go to another school last year.” It’s a damn cold night Trying to figure out this life Won’t you take me by the hand? Take me somewhere new I don’t know who you are but I “I can tell you don’t want to talk about, do you?” “No. I don’t want to talk or think about it. Thanks a lot.” I’m with you I’m with you “Okay. Anyway, what year are you in?” “Seventh. Then I can finally be out of school.” Sake gave a heaving sigh at the thought of never seeing any of these people ever again. Not that anyone wanted to see her, except for Shaunt, who was looking at her with wide eyes in excitement. Maybe I’m just out of my mind ‘Maybe I should go back. No, don’t think that.’ “I’m in seventh year too. I transferred from Durmstrang, my dad works in the ministry there and he decided to work on international something or other, so we moved here. I can’t wait till I get sorted. Do you have to get sorted?” Yeah, yeah… “Yeah.” Sake didn’t want to think about that. At least now she had a chance to escape her past, mainly Jez. It’s a damn cold night Trying to figure out this life Won’t you take me by the hand? Take me somewhere new I don’t know who you are but I’m with you The train stopped abruptly and Sake fell from her seat with a sickeningly loud thud.
