Christmas was just around the corner and I was glad. I needed go home and see my parents. I had been reading the copy of Lennon’s journal and there was some scary shit in there. I’m partially convinced my sister is a lesbian and the reason she’s so pissed all the time is because she won’t come out of the closet. I mean some of the stuff she writes about Cécile sounds exactly like a creepy possessive boyfriend. I found some stuff about me too and Scorpius.

Apparently, Lennon and Scorpius were more than friends. They fucked. Oh, yeah that’s right. Let’s refer to the entry on June 18th, 2021. It reads: Last night, I went to a party with Scorpius. It was at Silas Avery’s place since his parents were out of town. Scorpius asked me to go with him to win some bet with his friends. I also may or may not have taken his virginity as a part of the bet. I didn’t mind. He wasn’t terrible at it for his first time and I think it helped that it was me since we’ve been best friends for ages. Sometimes, I think Scorpius likes me, but then he gets all distant secretive and won’t let me see who he is texting on his phone. Sometimes, I wish it was me. I don’t know, maybe I just like him because I think we should be together since we’ve been friends for so long and we are always each other’s dates to stuff. Maybe, I’m just being a silly girl and he doesn’t even like me. Maybe, I just miss Byron. I winced at that name. I hadn’t seen or heard Byron's name in so long.

“Holy fuck!” Someone screamed as the door to our dorm swung open.

I dropped Lennon’s journal out of fear and shoved it under my pillow before turning around. I saw Dom looking positively irate and wanted to cry. Dom didn’t just get angry. She got super-dooper veela angry. It was terrifying.

“Ben fucking cheated on me that piece of absolute goat shit!” She screamed and grabbed a batch of his sweatshirts that she hoarded out of her trunk. She ran over to the window with a war-cry and threw them over the sill. I sighed and waved my wand, bewitching them to float. I’d get them later. She probably was just being dramatic. “I want to kill him!” She howled.

“What happened?” I asked her sitting up.

She collapsed into a dramatic heap on my bed and I flicked my wand in a covert gesture. The sweatshirts zoomed back over the sill and onto the floor. “He made out with Maxima Brankovitch over the summer.”

“What?” I raised my eyebrows. “And you’re just now finding out about this?”

She scowled as she rolled over. “Apparently, he was so drunk, he had no idea about it, but there’s fucking video footage. And sure he looks absolutely plastered, but I still don’t know whether to believe him or not.” She looked up at me and I noticed tears gleaming in the corners of her eyes.

“Oh Dom,” I said and put an arm around her shoulders. “You want me to beat him up?” I asked with a grin and she chuckled despite wiping tears off her cheeks.

“I want to kill the bloody Branko-witch,” she muttered. “And I want to apologize for being such an abysmal friend lately. I was just jealous of you and James and Troy hanging out all the time without me, because of Ben being a Slytherin and all.” She looked down at her hands. “Forgive me?” She looked out from under her lashes.

“I don’t have to forgive you,” I told her with a smile. “I was never mad at you.” I patted her knee comfortingly. Dom liked to be hugged and comforted when she was upset.

“Thank you,” she replied as she laid with her head on my lap. “You don’t have to be nice to me after I’ve been such a righteous bitch.”

“Of course, I do.” I shook my head as I brushed out her long blonde hair. “I’m your best friend.” I smiled at her and she grinned back at me.

“I know it’s just a kiss, but it still hurts,” she whimpered. “It’s just the fact that he let another girl do what I am supposed to do, you know? Now, I feel dirty.”

“No Dom, this isn’t your fault. Don’t let him make you feel that way. Have you talked to him about it?” I asked.

She shrugged. “Kind of. I saw the video going on and saw how he was featured on it. I immediately dragged him away from the Slytherin table and tore into him about it in the hallway. He confessed that he didn’t even know about it, but I mean they have him on fucking video. He did it. So, I broke up with him. He started crying and begging me not to let this ruin us. He kept telling me he loved me, but I was so mad. I just kept yelling at him that he already ruined it, so I didn’t have to. Then I stormed off and came up here.” She got choked up again and I rubbed her back with my free hand.

“Oh Dominique,” I breathed. “I’m so sorry.” We both startled as the door slammed open again. A hulking figure appeared in the doorway and we screamed.

“Fuck off, it’s me!” Troy snapped and I raised my eyebrows. He looked furious.

“Troy?” I spluttered. “How did you get up here?”

“I have my ways,” he replied errantly. “I need you to keep me from killing someone.” He snarled and began pacing my dorm.

“Why on earth would you want to kill someone?” I questioned gently.

“Maxima is a fucking piece of shit and that fucking video.” He glared at me.

“What video are you all going on about?” I looked between Dom and Troy. He blinked seeming to just now notice Dominique was lying in my lap wiping tears off her cheeks.

“Wait, Dom. Why are you crying? Whose bones do I need to fucking break?” He pounded his fist against his open palm and I saw how his knuckles were red and bleeding already.

“I’m fine,” she muttered. “I just broke up with Ben over his feature in that video.” Troy lifted Dominique off the bed and wrapped his arms around her.

“I’m so sorry,” he murmured in her ear. Troy, James, and Dom had been best friends before she started dating Ben and therefore only hanging out with him. They had been like the Three Musketeers, but I’d never seen them like this before. “I’m sorry that bitch ruined your relationship too.” Dom’s arms had been hanging limp at her sides, but they raised and wound themselves around Troy’s waist in a slow coil. I felt like I was intruding on an intimate moment. “I’m so sorry she hurt you.” His voice was so low in her ear I could barely hear.

“Thank you,” she whispered back as I heard her start to cry again. “I just feel gross and I don’t think it can ever be the same between us again.”

I just shifted back and forth with unease before I picked up my phone as they began talking in low tones. I began flicking through OwlChat feeling awkward as hell. I watched a few portraits including the one from Wizard Whispers (aka the school’s shitty gossip rag). One was a shaky video of someone following a trio of people down the hall. I noticed the back of James and Albus as well as a girl. The caption read: JP and MB carry injured AP to hospital wing. A picture appeared next and it was of Albus. One eye was swollen and blackened while his nose and lips were both red and bleeding. The caption read: TC’s revenge on AP? “Holy fuck!” I yelped as the pieces clicked together. MB was Maxima Brankovitch. TC was Troy Clearwater. I dropped my phone like it was hot and looked up at Troy.

“What?” He questioned. There was now a little more space between him and Dom, but he still had an arm around her and was rubbing her arm. Her eyes were red, but she’d stopped crying.

“What on earth did you do to Albus?” I asked in terror.

He looked away.

“What?” Dom asked me. She sat back on the bed and grabbed my phone playing the most recently viewed Owlchat. I watched as her eyes widened. “Troy! Did you beat up my cousin?”

He exhaled slowly. “Look, first off, he fucked my girlfriend which merits an arse-kicking under the Guy Code. Two, I was in a really bad place when he ran into me. I’d just had a row with Max and she’d really pissed me off. I just wanted to punch something, because I couldn’t punch her and he waltzed into my room. Not that those are excuses, but don’t think I tracked him down just to punch him. He came to me.”

I shook my head. “Godric, I’d better go see if Albus is okay.” I stood up.

“I’ll go with you. Give me one second.” Dom raced to the bathroom. I shook out my wrinkled clothes and dusted the crumbs off them. Sorry, it had been a homework day and I hadn’t moved since I’d gotten back from dinner. I unclipped my hair and tossed the clip onto my bedside table as I yanked on my tennis shoes.

“Hey Mickey?” Troy asked in a quiet tone. I looked over at him with a raised eyebrow. “Can I stay here? I don’t want to go back and face the guys just yet.” He admitted.

“Yeah sure, crash on my bed. Take all the time you need. If Abbott, Darcy, or Zära comes in just close the curtains. You don’t have to tell them what’s going on,” I told him.

“Okay thanks,” he replied. He started to sit down on my bed and winced. He placed a hand on his back and looked uncomfortable. For Troy, looking mildly uncomfortable meant he was in a lot of pain. He had the highest pain tolerance I’d ever seen. Last year in the Slytherin game, Troy got hit by two Bludgers at the same time and kept playing even with a smile on his face. Later, we come to find out that the impact gave him a concussion and fractured one of his shoulder blades. It also cracked some vertebrae in his back. He only looked mildly uncomfortable after they had all landed and then promptly passed out.

“Hey, what happened?” I asked him stepping forward.

He shrugged and lifted his shirt. “Does it look bad?” He turned away from me. A large bruise took up most of his lower back and side. It was an angry purple color like someone had squished a bushel of grapes on his skin.

I gasped. “Is that from Quidditch?”

“Sort of,” he answered. “I had sprained it during the early practices and those Bludgers didn’t help, but the bruise is probably from Maxima.” He rolled his eyes as he dropped the hem of his t-shirt.

“W-what?” I almost choked. “Maxima did that to you?”

He scowled. “Yeah, when we were fighting early. She shoved me and I fell against a trunk.”

“Excuse me?” I was aghast. “Has she ever hit you before now?”

He shrugged once more. “That’s the first time. It doesn’t really hurts though she’s not that strong.”

My eyes widened and my jaw almost hit the floor. “Troy, that’s not fucking okay.” I sat down beside him on my bed. He made a scoffing noise. “I’m being dead serious. Just because she’s a girl doesn’t mean she can hit you.”

“Godric, Mick.” He sighed. “I’m fine. It’s my own damn fault for being a klutz.”

I opened my mouth to protest, but he stopped me.

“It’s my business anyway. I appreciate what you’re doing trying to make me feel better, but considering your relationship track record, it doesn’t make me feel better.” He snapped.

I just blinked at him and shook my head. I was done trying to help him if he wanted to act like a fucking dick. I stood up as Dom reentered the room. Her make-up was freshly done and had removed any traces of crying or tears. “Please don’t be here by the time I get back.” I glared at him and left with Dom.

“What was that about?” She asked as we walked down the stairs.

“Maxima fucking shoved Troy so hard he hit a trunk and has huge bruise on his back. But he’s acting like it’s no big deal. He says she’s not that strong, so it doesn’t matter.” I snarled.

Dom raised her eyebrows and tilted her head. “Well, at least they’ve broken up.” She swallowed.

“That’s true, but Troy doesn’t have to be rude just because I’m trying to help him.” I rolled my eyes. We crossed the common room where everyone was obviously gossiping about what had happened. I saw Lennon smirking as she sat on one of the couches with a larger group than usual. Cécile lingered on the outskirts of the conversation staring at her painted nails. And it hit me.

Lennon must have released that video of Maxima. She couldn’t stand to be less popular than someone, I’m sure. I scanned the faces of the people around her and noticed most of them were members of the Dons aka the creepy-ass cult known as the Hogwarts Assistance Committee. Maxima has been dethroned it seems.

Dom and I hurried to the hospital wing and pushed open the heavy doors. We walked in and saw a few people there all congregated around one bed. James stood facing us while Maxima had her back to us. Lily stood beside James and was silent, an unusual trait for her.

“How is he?” Dom asked as she approached. “We came as soon as we heard.” She stopped beside Maxima, but she looked to James.

It was Lily who spoke first. “He’s stable,” she told us. I walked over and slipped my hand in James’s. His fingers remained limp, but I squeezed them in comfort anyway. “Troy messed up Al’s face pretty bad, but it’s just cosmetics. There was some whiplash effect on his neck, but Aunt Hannah said it won’t hurt anything just make him sore for a few days. Two of his ribs got busted and that’s the worst of it, but Aunt Hannah said with magic it’s easily fixable. The recovery period is just longer than the rest of it.”

I looked down at Albus and he looked terrifying. His eye was purple and swollen. His lip was busted and bleeding while another bruise covered his face. A long scratch went across his cheek. He was asleep, his chest rising and falling peacefully.

“He’s going to be okay though,” Lily told Dom with a nod. “He just went to sleep—”

The door slammed open and we all looked up at it. Rose Weasley stormed in looking downright frightening. Strands of red hair bloomed out around her face despite the majority of it being plaited down her back. Her cheeks were as bright red as her hair and her hands were clenched into fists.

“Rose,” James cautioned.

“Fucking don’t!” She snapped. My eyes widened. Rose Weasley did not cuss. She stopped in front of Maxima and, to her credit, the brunette didn’t cower or even flinch as Rose slammed her fist into the girl’s cheek.

“Nice to see you too, Weasel,” Maxima replied. She grabbed a nearby cloth and spit into it. I noticed there was blood on it when she sat it down. “Glad to see you finally grew a pair.” I have never heard a voice so cold and menacing in my life. It made me shiver.

The redhead raised her hand again. “Don’t you dare try to make this about yourself.” She snarled at Maxima. “You’re the reason this happened, but in case you haven’t noticed, that’s my cousin you bitch!” Her words ripped through the silence. “My cousin is lying in a hospital bed, because you’re a cheating whore. Because you couldn’t take responsibility for your actions. Because you’re a manipulative slut who takes advantage of everyone she comes into contact with. Even your fucking friends can’t stand you! Your fuck-buddy left you for another girl! Why couldn’t you just leave Albus alone? What did he ever do to you?” She was crying as she punched Maxima another time in the face and the other girl barely recoiled, but I winced at the sound of flesh smacking against flesh.

The brunette rolled her eyes and a large red mark had appeared around her eye. It was quickly swelling. “In case you haven’t noticed, Albus wanted to be with me. I didn’t make him do anything he didn’t want to.” Her expression was blank. “And have you ever wondered if you’re just making these things up because you’re mad that Albus finally moved on? That he got better friends? People who genuinely care about him and don’t just cling to him, so they don’t have to feel bad about how much of a failure they are?”

Rose stumbled back as if she’d been struck. She stared at Maxima as tears fell in torrents down her cheeks.

“Maybe you’re just afraid that you’ve lost Albus forever and so you’re taking it out on me,” the brunette continued.

“Fuck you, Maxima,” the redhead muttered, “just fuck you.” She wiped her eyes and stormed out.

Dom cut her eyes at Maxima and said, “That was unnecessary.” She glared at her as she hurried after her cousin, the doors clanging behind her.

“I’d better go with her.” James pulled away from me without so much as a look in my direction and walked out as well.

I looked between the remaining two before I spoke. “I think I know who made that video,” I told Maxima. Her gaze snapped to me.

“Who?” She growled in that tone. The tone that made me feel like I was talking to the Grim Reaper.

“I don’t have any evidence, but I saw Lennon basking in the glory of your defeat in the common room. Your minions, the Dons, were surrounding her.” I explained. “She looked pretty pleased with herself.”

Maxima snapped, “That bitch will pay.” Her eyes seemed to glow in anger, her elegant mouth in a snarling expression. “I will tear her to pieces. If she wants war, she’ll have it.”

“Lily and I are already working on a plan to take her down. Help us.” I had this uneasy feeling like I was about to open Pandora’s box.

And Maxima smiled. It was an evil sneering smile that revealed the blood seeping between her teeth. At the sight of her, I had to stifle a shiver.

“I won’t even ask for payment.” She extended her hand. “But you have to do exactly as I say and swear yourself to secrecy.”

I exchanged glances with Lily, but she nodded in return. We both shook her hand and she smiled that terrifying smile again.

“It’ll be a pleasure doing business with you,” she said.

I tried to smile back, but couldn’t swallow that uneasy feeling. I’m pretty sure I’d just made a deal with the Devil and sold my soul to ruin my sister’s life. Wow, I should win a Nobel Peace Prize for being such an outstanding person.
