Chapter 5: An Old Friend Returns
Agent Alaya Black walked through the hall of the FBI Headquarters, her blonde hair pulled back in a clip, her deep blue eyes held a slight hint of worry in them. Commissioner Lowe had wanted to see her. She reached his secratary's office and pushed open the door. The secratary looked up when she herd the door open. "Oh, Miss Black, Commissioner Lowe is waiting for you, go on in." The Secratary told her. Alaya nodded and walked to the door leading to his office. She pushed the door open and walked inside. She closed the door and looked to his desk, he's was reading some type of report. She cleared her thoat to let him know she was there. He looked up from the report. "Ah, Miss Black, I was expecting you, please have a seat." He said motioning to a seat in front of his desk. He had a serious look on his face. She took a seat. "Miss Black as you know there have been some mysterious deaths going on for the last few months, each one having this mark at the scene of the crime." He handed her a photo of a a black skull with a sepeant intertwined in it burned onto a wall of a house. She flinched at the sight of the mark. "Yes, sir, but isn't this Borellie and Sinclair's case?" She asked dreading what she knew what was coming next. He looked at her and went to sit back down at his desk. "Black, you are the head of our unsloved cases department, we have given you over 40 cases to solve and you have solved them all. We need your help on this skull serpant case. Borelli and Sinclair have asked for you personally, it's my job to make sure my agents solve the cases they are given. So, I'm granting their request" He explained. Alaya looked at the photo in her hand. She knew what this mark was, she knew what it meant. It was the dark mark and it meant Voldermort had returned. Yes, Alaya Black wasn't a normal muggle, with a muggle job. She was a witch. A witch that had left the wizarding world when most of her friends and family had been killed. After Voldermort had vanished because of not being able to kill Harry Potter, she quit her job as an Auror and moved to the muggle world, where she had become an FBI agent. She had left that world to get away from all the memories and the pain, and now she set here faced with helping the muggle's lame attempt at solving the mysterious deaths that were happening. What choice did she have, it wasn't like the muggles would ever get close enough to figure out what was really going on, and if she didn't take this case, she would be refusing orders. "Alright Commissioner, I'll do it." she said regreting her decsion immeaditley. "Great, here is the case file." The commmissioner said handing her the file that was on his desk. She took it and walked out the door. She walked back to her office thinking about what she had done. When she got to her office she closed the door and locked it behind her. The room was dark, so she reached over to turn the light on, but changed her mind. She leaned against the hard oak door. She had been away from the wizarding world for 14 years now. She had stayed long enough to make sure everything was safe again, then she packed up and left. She thought back to all of her friends that were in the wizarding world, most of them had been killed by Voldermort. During his last few months of power, many members of "The Order of The Phenoix" had been killed. She thougth back to a time when she was happy, her thoughts took her back to her fifth year at Hogwarts. *** She was laying under a tree at Hogwarts on her stomach reading her Transfiguration book. A tall good looking boy with jet black hair, and honey brown eyes, with round rimmed glasses stood behind her smiling, she hadn't noticed him yet. He quickly dove for the book and took off running. She quickly jumped up and took off after the boy. "JAMES POTTER!! GET BACK HERE WITH MY BOOK!" She yelled trying to sound angry but couldn't hide her smile. She chased him for five minutes before he finally stopped in the middle of the Quidditch field. When she finally got to him he was sitting down holding the book. "Good Morning L, just thought I'd give you some excercise this morning" James said smiling and handing her book back to her. She laughed and sat down beside him. "Thanks, I think." She said. He stood up pulling her up with him. "Hey, what are best friends for L." He said putting his arm around her shoulders. "Bloddy hell you two, your as fast on your feet as you are on a broom."Said a friendly voice from behind them. They turned to see 2 tall good looking boys, one with black hair and blue eyes, with a slight tan and the other with sandy blonde hair and light brown eyes, but he was sort of pale. "Sirius is right, what were you two doing anyway." The sandy blonde haired boy said. James and Alaya laughed. "Well Remus, Potter over here stole my book and took off running with it." Alaya said trying not to start laughing. James simply smiled. *** As she thought about that moment her eyes filled with tears. Her, Remus, Sirius, and Peter had all been such good friends, but she had lost them all in some way. She reached up and held the the charm on her necklace that she was wearing. It was a small flask with a blue liquid inside, the flask was held in a chram with a stag, a dog, a fox, a werewolf, and a rat engraved into it a small 'M' underneath the pictures. They had all learned to become animagiuses, so that Remus wouldn't be alone during his werewolf transformations, she remembered the first time she turned into a fox. The tears that were filling her eyes began to stream down her face. She remembered how happy they all were, everything was perfect. Then in their sixth year, Hogwarts seemed to have gotten much more strict and teachers were harder to get along with, and Alaya kept having dream of people being killed. Then finally in their seventh year Voldermort had made his presence known. Directly after their graduation they had become members of the order. Lily and James got married and to everyone's surprise Alaya and Sirius got married. She had kept Sirius' name when she went to the muggle world. Suddenly a knock on her door shattered her thoughts. "Agent Black are you in there?" a voice said from the other side of the door. She quickly wiped her eyes and opened the door. Agents Borelli and Sinclair were standing there. Borellie was a middle-aged man, with chocolate brown hair and eyes to match, he had been with the FBI for 20 years. Sinclair was a women about Alaya's age with light green eyes, and red hair, she had been with the FBI as long as Alaya had. The two agents looked at Alaya and their expressions quickly became ones of worry. "Black, what's wrong? Have you been crying?" Sinclair asked. Alaya forced a smile. "I'm fine really." She said. "We were just here to thank you for helping us." Borellie said trying to change the subject. "It's really no problem, I'm glad to help." She lied. They talked for another half hour and finally Alaya ws able to go home. *********************************************************** When Alaya had gotten home she quickly changed into a pair of jeans and a white t-shirt. She hadn't bothered to turn on any lights. She layed on her couch and looked at the pictures in her living room. She had used a freezing charm on them when she first came to the muggle world to keep them from moving. She began to feel tears fall out of her eyes again. She could still hear Remus begging her not to leave that night she had finally told him. **** "Alaya, you can't leave, we need you." Remus begged fighting back the urge to let tears fall as he watched Alaya pack her bags. "Remus, there is nothing left for me in this world. Lily and James are dead, Harry has been sent to live with Lily's sister, Sirius is in Azkaban for a crime we both know he didn't commit, Peter is dead, you are going to France to teach, my whole family is dead except for my brother and his wife, I even had to give up my own daughter to protect her." She said tears streaming down her face while she put the last of her clothes in her suit case. She slammed the suit case shut and turned to face Remus. Tears were running down his face."L you know that this isn't over, you know somehow someway, Voldermort will return. And when he does, the order is going to need all the help it can get. You can't go, they need you, I need you! You are all I have left L. You, James, Sirius, Peter, and I have been friends ever since that first day on the train. Please L don't go." He begged again. She walked up to him and hugged him, he returned the hug. She broke the hug and handed him a note. She waved her wand and her packed belonging dissapeared, she had sent them to the apartment she would be living in. She stood on her tip toes and kissed his forehead. "I'll miss you Remus, please forgive me for this." She said and walked out the door. He watched the door close and looked down at the note she had given him. He slowly unfolded it and read what she had wrote.
Dear Remus,
If I could I would do all of this again Travel back in time with you to where this all began We could hide inside ourselves and leave the world behind And make believe there's something left to find We'll be miles apart I'll keep you deep inside You're always in my heart A new life to start I may be leaving but you're always in my heart Now we've all grown up, gone on and moved away Nothing I can do about it, nothing I can say To bring us back to where we were when life was not this hard Looking back it all just seems so far, so far away We'll be miles apart I'll keep you deep inside You're always in my heart A new life to start I may be leaving but you're always in my heart Love Always, Alaya
*** She remembered writing those words an hour before Remus had shown up that day. She began to cry harder. She knew why all of these memories were coming back to her now. She had recived a letter from Albus Dumbeldore a couple weeks ago telling her of Voldermort's return and of Sirius' death. He had also sent her a picture of Harry and his two best friends. She couldn't belive how much he looked like James, but his eyes were Lily's. She had thought leaving would have been less painfull and for 14 years it had been, but finding out that the only person she was ever truely in love with was now dead and she would never see him again brought back all the memories good and bad from her life in the wizarding world. All of her thoughts were shattered by a loud "POP" coming from her kitchen she jumped up from her couch. She knew exactly what that sound was. Someone had just appearted into her apartment. "Whose there!" She demanded. She saw a shadow in her kitchen and it began to walk out into the living room. She finally saw who it was. She fell to her knees in surprise. "Remus!" She breathed. She got to her feet and stared at him a minute. "Remus? Is that really you?"She asked. He smiled. "Yes, L, it's really me." he said. She ran to him and hugged him, tears still flowing from her eyes. "L, we need to talk." he said pulling away from her. She nodded and led him to the couch. "You know about Voldermort's return and Sirius' death." He said. She nodded. "We belive that now, that his return has been publicly announced that he will not care who sees him while he is going thorugh with his intention to kill Harry. We need you to come back L." He said. She looked at him unsure of what to say. She didn't want to go back, but no matter where she stayed she would have to deal with this. "Give me a week to finish everything up here." She said reluctanly. Remus smiled and pulled her into a hug. They both knew that all hell would soon break loose in the wizarding world, there was no doubt about that, but there were still so many things to be asked. Remus pulled away and his look turned serious. "There is so much you don't know L." he said. She looked up to him and forced a smile. "Then tell me, everything." She said. Remus began to tell her everything that had happened in the wizarding world since she had left. From all the talk about Voldermort possibly coming back all the way up to the night in The Department of Mysteries. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The note that Alaya wrote Remus was from the song "Miles Apart" by Yellowcard Please Review.
