Two slow, long, weeks later. Connie once again arrived in my fireplace, along with a ridiculous amount of bags. My mum came rushing in (I don’t think she’s used to people flooing to our flat) but she looked relieved at the sight of Connie.

“Hello Mrs. Grey, it’s a pleasure to see you again!” She came bounding in to the center of the room.
Everyone at the Ministry had finished at three today in order to prepare for the Summer Event, and Connie was over at mine to get ready.

“My parents told me to inform you that they will be dropping by at about quarter to eight?” Connie said to my mum.

“That’s perfect, now would you two like some chicken soup?” We both nodded furiously.

While later, we were just about ready. I wore the black dress with my dark hair tousled around my shoulders, with some nice jewelry. Connie did my makeup, and she did a very good job. She herself looks amazing as per usual- hint of jealousy there.

“I can’t wait to see the look on his face,” She said as she put her things into a nice pile. She would be staying with me tonight.
“Wow, you’re more excited about this than I am!” I smirked at her. She gave me a mischievous look.
“Oh come on,” she whined, “We’re Slytherins, we do pointlessly evil things.” I admit, she had a point; this was pointlessly evil.
At that point my owl knocked at my window. I call her snitch, because she’s weirdly fast for such a small thing. I took the letter and gave her a treat.
It was a reply from Rose. I wrote to her hoping she had a nice day, it seemed polite (even though we’re friends, it still more like acquaintances).

Thank you for asking me to come! It was a different experience, and rather unexpected but a good time nevertheless. In fact, I would like to repay the favour.
Would you care to join my cousins and I to our annual family do? It's near the end of August, and basically everyone related to us get stuck into a house, but it’s really fun. We normally do it at the Potter’s house; it’s the biggest. It gives our parents an excuse to meet our friends too.
I’ll talk to you more about this later, at the Summer Event, so see you then!

From Rose.

Wow, families do’s.. That’s a big step in our friendship.
Connie stared at the letter.

“Wow- soon you’ll be getting married.” She winked at me.
“Oh piss off.”

We descended to the living room where we awaited Connie’s parents. My mum comes to join us.
“Well don’t you two just look gorgeous! Oh Guin, look at you! I feel like you’ve just grown up over night. “ She came and kissed my forehead. She had a point, she didn’t really get to see me grow up, but then again, she didn’t really miss out. Growing up is not fun.
She wore a blue gown with a thin silky scarf and a clutch bag, her hair was up in an elegant bun.

The image of my dad flashed across my mind, followed by a sudden pop sound behind me. My mum looked up.
“Darling!” She beamed at my dad over my shoulder. I moved out of the way.
“Sweet heart! You look beautiful,” He said kissing her on the lips and pulling her into a hug. His gaze went to my face.
“Guin? Merlin is that you?” He pulled away from my mum. He was wearing a suit, and looked a bit more tanned than usual. But I was confused by his comment, I know its been a long time, but I haven’t changed that much.
I beamed at him. I missed my daddy.
He cupped my face in his hands, inspecting every inch as if he would never see me again.
“Your so much like your mother…” He murmured.
“Except for my eyes,” I said, “I’m pretty sure they’re yours.” I stared back into what was almost a reflection of my own eyes. He pulled me into a warm hug. I had seriously missed my dad.

Meanwhile, Connie was still standing there, I could almost feel her awkwardness.
“Um dad? This is my friend Connie Avery. Connie, This is Mr. Montgomery Grey.”

Connie held out her hand, “Nice to meet you-“ She paused at the sight of his eyes, “-Mr. Grey.”
“And you miss Avery.” He nodded as he shook her hand.
Connie had been looking at my eyes for the past 5/6 years, but to see almost an exact copy of them on my dad was probably surreal for her. I decided not to question it.

We arrived at the mansion-in-the-middle-of-nowhere a few minutes after 8 with the Averys. My mum turned to me and said:
“Ok Guin, we will meet you back here by one.” I nodded.

The parents left us and entered the ridiculously big house, and left Connie and I standing outside. I was strangely nervous. What if he didn’t think I looked good? What if I trip and look stupid? More importantly, what if Connie doesn’t get the reaction she wants?
No, I’m a Slytherin. I don’t give a crap about these things. This thought passed through my mind, and I immediately felt reassured.
Connie squeezed my arm, and we walked in.

There was a grand staircase going down from the entrance to the main hall. We put on our best smiles, stood up straight and confident. We definitely turned a few heads (which felt great!) but I could feel myself growing hot, so I discreetly took a deep breath.
We walk down the stairs, cool and collected, and paused at the bottom (for effect). To Connie’s delight there were two male faces already in front of us.
James Potter and Fred Weasley were both staring; stunned at our appearance, though I knew James was focusing on Connie (I think he secretly has a thing for her, but he’s too scared cus she’s a Slytherin). Who can blame him?
I could see Albus hovering in my peripheral vision, and made sure to stay steady and not meet his eyes. I could feel his gaze on me, making my pulse quicken, though I’m not totally sure why.
James opened his mouth and made to look like he was about to say something, but Connie cut across him:

“Hey! Zabini!” She wave to Zackeriah Zabini over James’s shoulder, took my hand and dragged me over there. Wow, She knows how to play hard to get.

“Well well, might I say how stunning you both look on this fine evening.” He gave us a dashing smile.

Now, Zack Zabini is one good-looking fellow. He’s like the James Potter of Slytherin- but without the rude brother.

“Your not too bad yourself Zabini,” I cocked my head to one side. He looked shocked.
“Not too bad? Grey I don’t think you realize how much work goes into looking this amazing.” He gestured at himself jokingly.
“Your arrogance never ceases to amaze me Zack.” Scorpius had finally joined us.
“Nice to see you too Scorpius.” Zabini smirked.

The evening wore on with the same casual conversation and joking. At about 11 Connie dragged me to the lady’s room – making the excuse that girls don’t go to the toilet on their own.

“Okay, so far so good,” I say to her. She turns to look at me.

“What do you mean? He still hasn’t made the effort!”

“Ohh, but I thought our plan was to make him feel the need to talk to me, not actually talk to me.” I smirked. She only gave an exasperated sigh.

“Think about it Connie, why would he actually speak to me? He’s a Potter who’s in Gryffindor; I’m a nobody in Slytherin. We are COMPLETE opposites.” I hope that would change her mind, because I’m really not entirely bothered.
She still remained in silence, but gave me a sad smile.

“Okay, I see you’re satisfied with the reaction, but for the record, you’re not a nobody. “ I could see a mischievous smile creeping on her lips.
“What’s that look for?” I can’t see what she’s thinking, I can’t hear anything.
“Ah I have finally found a way to avoid your psychicness,” She teased, "but for now, I’m not going to make a plan. Lets just see how things pan out.”
And with that, she left and immediately disappeared into the crowed. I made my way back to the others, only to find Zabini standing on his own.

He looked at me, eyebrows raised. “Oh hey, thought you lot had ditched me for a threesome or something.” He said way too casually.

I chuckled and hit on the arm, “That’s gross. Don’t ever put an image like that in my mind ever again.”
“I best distract you then.” He took my hand and pulled me onto the dance floor, and we started Waltzing.
“You’re a pretty nifty dancer Guin,” He commented with a charming smile.
“I do my best!”
We danced with enthusiasm, laughing and joking as we did. I am glad to say I enjoyed myself, however I noticed as we danced that he was gradually pulling me closer to him- not that I minded- but I could feel myself growing more nervous as he did.

The song had ended and we were clapping with the other couples on the dance floor, when a peculiar image crossed my mind. The chandelier that hung in the center of the hall was falling. I instinctively looked up towards it- it looked stable, but something wasn’t quite right. I squinted up at the light. It was.. hovering, as if waiting for the precise moment to … fall. I immediately started to make my way to the center of the hall, completely forgetting about Zack.
The moment I looked up to check, I had the similar déjà vu I had all the time. I broke into a run.
I spotted the person who I anticipated it might hit- but without time to acknowledge who they were, I pushed them as hard as I could out of the way.
And then…

I’m hoping you can guess what happened- it’ll be pretty obvious in the next chapter. Thanks for reading though!
