Hermione woke up in the empty bed. It was dark outside and she was now wide awake. Her head dropped back on the pillow. It was damp from tears. She got up ant put on her pink dressing gown over her. She walked down the landing and into the sitting room. She saw Ron collapsed on a couch smelling of stale drink. She just broke down in uncontrollable sobs. Then she felt a warm hand on shoulder.
“Shh, Hermione its ok-“
“No Harry, look at him, if he wasn’t with a girl last night he’s either gay or just a loner. And if I know him it was a girl.” She could barely speak.
“Hermione, if he was with anyone that isn’t you last night I’ll murder him.”
This made Hermione cry harder. She wanted Harry to hold her and comfort her. But then she remembered how it was. Harry was with Ginny, she just grabbed him into a tight hug as if she wasn’t going to let go.
“Harry we need to go to Diagon All -“ Ginny started
Ginny's smiling face suddenly turned pale. She shot a dirty look at Hermione. Harry pushed her away gently.
“What’s going on?” she said darkly.
“I was just saying good morning to Hermione. Wasn’t I?”
He turned to Hermione who was still only recovering.
“Oh… um... yeah.” She finished hastily.
Harry was the first to change the subject. He went in to get James to feed him. Ginny took her chance and basically sprinted to Hermione and caught her dressing gown.
“I know your game, but you missed your chance I got him. Harry is mine… you keep your dirty little hands off him.” Ginny hissed
She pulled away as Harry’s footsteps were getting louder. Hermione tried to take the shocked look off her face.
“Are you two ok? James is still asleep.”
“Ok Harry, can you make breakfast and I’ll try to wake this twat up.” Said Ginny normally.
“I didn’t get much sleep. I’m going back to bed.” Hermione said wearily.
Harry stared after her sadly. He went into the kitchen and poured out some juice. Ginny came in and closed the door.
“What ever is going on between you and Hermione has to stop. I know your friends but you are going to keep it that way.” She whispered
“What? Yeah we are friends but that’s all.” He said with a raised voice.
“So how come whenever I come in your together and stuff. She always had some strange obsession with you.” Ginny spat.
“We’re friends. There is nothing going on Ginny. Why do you think I married you?” he said with his temper rising.
“Will you get your head straight? Can’t you see the way she looks at you? She just dated Ron to get you, then he proposed.” She said going red.
“Hermione isn’t like that.” He said quietly.
“I want you to stay away from her.” She said.
Harry screamed at her would she ever stop being so paranoid. Hermione wasn’t like other girls… But would she do that to get him? Would she do that to Ron?
“I’m not staying away from her.” He said simply.
Tears welled up in Ginny’s eyes. She started to walk to the door but he grabbed her arm.
“Me or her?” she screamed hysterically
“Huh… What do you mean?”
“Who do you pick me or Hermione?” she repeated.
“You’re being stupid… Ginny wait… sorry come back when you calmed down.” He said slowly.
Ginny pushed him away roughly and slammed the door on her way out.
“Smooth, mate.” said a tired Ron.
Tears fell from Harry’s eyes for the first time in years. He felt empty... he didn't know what was going on anymore. Had he just chosen Hermione over Ginny and would she ever come back? He now understood how Hermione had felt all those years ago when Ron left... He was suddenly angry at Hermione for being as beuatiful as she was. He nearly laughed at himself for what he just thought. Harry's head hit the pillow and he slipped into a confused, deep sleep...
