~Sirius' POV~

Slughorn had given us a three foot essay on the uses of Polyjuice Potion. Seriously, all you do is drink the stuff and turn into someone else...

"But what do you put in it?" Peter squeaked from next to me.

"Any part of them. Tears will do. Blood. Hair," I answered while flicking through my text book. Suddenly, the door flung open and Prongs walked in. "Prongsie! What did McGonagall want?"

He pushed past me and went straight to the bathroom.

"Padfoot?" Peter eventually broke the silence.

"I'm hungry."

"Well, let's go to dinner."

"Sirius, what's wrong with James?" Lily asked me as James walked into the Great Hall.

James looked terrible. There was a long rip down the back of his robes while his tie was slung around his neck. His hair didn't stick up in every direction like it normally did.

"Dunnno," I said, "He came back from McGonagall's looking pretty upset."

"Hey, James," Lily said as Prongs took a seat. He just grunted in reply.

"Dude, what happened to your robes?" I asked.

"It got stuck in a suit of armour," he said flatly.

"Looks like the armour won," Rosie smiled. It slowly faded when she realised that James didn't seem to find it funny.

"What did McGonagall want?" I said. James just shrugged in reply. Okaaay, something was definitely wrong here. Prongs wasn't into short explanations.

"So have you got the tactics for the match against Ravenclaw?" I asked. James just shook his head.

After dinner, we all went back to the common room.

"I'm tired guys. I think I'll go to bed," James said. I glanced at the clock: it wasn't even 9 yet.

"Yeah, it's been a hard day, I think I will too," Peter said and trudged up the stairs.

"Come on, Prong's. Let's all go up to our dorm," Remus said with a pointed look at me that said This includes you

"James, what's going on?" I said as the dorm door was firmly shut.

"My father is dead," James whispered. There was a shocked silence. James' father was an auror so naturally he was a high priority target for the Death Eaters.

"How?" I asked.

"Who?" Remus added.

"It was some Death Eater. Dumbledore wouldn't tell me which one," James said frustratedly.

"James...I'm sorry," Peter said, which by his measure was a pretty big show of emotion.

"It's alright Petey. It's not your fault. Dumbledore also said that they were after Mum too but they only managed to get Dad. He said that she mustn't be alone without any other aurors there. The funeral is this Saturday ...will you guys come with me?" James said as he lay down on his bed.

"Sure thing, mate," Remus said.

"Thanks. And please don't tell anyone," he whispered.

I woke up quite early the next morning. Remus was just walking out of the bathroom.

"We need to talk, Sirius," he said.

"Yes, I think we do," I agreed and followed him out into the corridor.

"Mate, I know you may hate me for what I did and I'm not saying I did something wrong, but I think James really needs us right now. He needs us together and to help him," Remus said.

Ever since our Gryffindor victory party, things had been tense between us. At first we couldn't even stand being in the same room together but we eventually saw that it was ridiculous. We started hanging out as the Marauders again, but things just weren?t the same. There was always awkward tension between us and none of us would speak about that night.

I really cared for my fellow Marauders because they were like my family to me. Correction, they were my family. I didn't want the awkward tension between us to be there and I didn't want to cover it up for James. We couldn't just ignore that it was there.

"No, I don't want to, Remus. I want to sort this...crappy thingo out," I said firmly. Remus nodded understandingly.

"Me too. I just want to say that I'm sorry for dancing with her and-" he said but I cut him off.

"I was drunk. I shouldn't have acted the way I did and I'm really sorry to," I said.

"We good?' Remus asked.

"Definitely," I said and gave him a brotherly hug.

"So what's up with you and Rosie?" he said with a conspirational wink.

"We're going to Hogsmeade this weekend!" I said happily.

"Wait, Padfoot?" Remus said with a worried look on his face, "You do realise that this weekend is also the funeral?"

"Oh, shit."

~Alexis' POV~

"Stop worrying Lily. I'm sure he's fine," I tried to reassure her.

"But did you see him?" Lily wailed.

"Hush child," I said. I, personally, thought that she was waaaay over reacting, "He can probably hear you from here." Ha, that shut her up, "Any way, I got to do some homework. Stop worrying about James. And that's an order.'

I was halfway through my essay when I remembered a letter I had gotten from Dad that came this morning.

Dear Alex,

Rebecca has clearly stated that you can't wear just another purple dress but you have to wear the one that she wants. I really want this wedding to have what will make Rebecca happy. Please understand.

There will a dress fitting this Saturday at 11 o'clock which you must attend. I?ve already talk to Dumbledore and he said you may use his fireplace to floo to ours which I have gotten connected to the network for the day.

Love Dad

I sat there in shock. Things were really getting a move on. It wasn't Christmas yet and they'd already started making plans for a July wedding.

"You all ready for this weekend?" Lily interrupted my thoughts.

"What's this weekend?" I asked blankly.

"Hogsmeade," she said in a 'duhhh' voice, "I'm going with Callum."

"Ah, fuck. Shit balls," I swore loudly.

"What?" Lily said looking confused.

"I promised Sirius ages ago that I would go to Hogsmeade this weekend with him but I just got a letter from Dad saying that I have to go a dress fitting for their wedding," I explained.

"What? Oh, Al, that's so shit. Can't you get out of going to the fitting?" She asked.

"No, because what Rebecca wants Rebecca gets," I said bitterly. Dad had written how he wants things to be perfect for Rebecca and how he would do anything for her wedding but he didn't even mention anything about the Cleansweep I had asked for.

"Tat actually sucks so bad."

"Will you come with me?" I asked her with my best puppy dog face.

"I can't, Al. I already promised Callum I'd go with him," Lily said while pulling a face. Damn Callum and his stupid love potion pact with Snivellus. I wish I could just tell Lily about it and how James found out and then he could be her knight in shining armour and the the rest of us could live in peace.

"Awww, come on, Lils. Do you even like the guy?"

"Of course I do!"?she exclaimed.

"But you like James," I said, totally unconvinced.

"I like both of them, Al! Aren't I allowed two like two guys at one?" she cried.

"Nt when you're going out with one of them but you like the other better," I said.

"Wo said I like James more than I liked Callum?"

I was trying to find Sirius. I had braced myself for whatever he would say when he found out.

"Sirius," I said as I walked up to him.

"Hey, Rosie!" His face lit up as he saw me. Oh Merlin, why did this have to be so hard? "I was just coming to talk to you. I have to tell you something."

"Wait, wait. Me first. Um...I can't come to Hogsmeade this weekend with you," the words tumbled out of my mouth.

"What?" he said, sounding slightly relieved, "Merlin, I had to tell you I couldn't go with you because of some stuff with James...anyway, why can't you go?" he said.

"Wait-what stuff with James?" I said, 'And I have to go to a bridal dress fitting thingo because my Dad is getting married."

"I ...errrrr, I can't exactly tell you," he said as he looked down at his feet.

"Please?" I said as I gave him my best pleading-puppy-dog look.

"Okay, fine. But you have to keep it a secret, but...we Marauders are going to James' dads funeral," he whispered into my ear.

"What?" I said, wondering if I had heard correctly, "What happened to James' dad?" Sirius shifted uncomfortably from foot to foot.

"I can't tell you, Rosie. I'm sorry. It's not even my place to tell you that he's dead...I'm sorry." He did genuinely look sorry...

"It's okay, Sirius...I hope James it okay though... And what about his mum?" I asked.

"I don't think Prongs took the news too well...he's a really upset and his mum's fine but she's going to have like bodyguards and stuff," he said.

"Okay..." I said awkwardly. I knew how it felt to lose your Mum or Dad, especially to the Death Eaters.

"Well...I got to go and make sure he eats his food and doesn't get bye then," he said awkwardly.

"'Bye," I said as he turned down one corridor and I turned down another. It suddenly reminded me of the time he had spilled pumpkin juice all over me and I went back to Gryffindor Tower to get changed and he followed me there. We had an awkward goodbye when we went our separate ways.

That was so long ago. Back then I hated Sirius and James and Remus and Peter but now I can't imagine life without them.
