I'm very sorry for the wait!
This chapter is mainly about getting ready to fight, nothing about Draco/Hermione. I swear, the next chapter I'll have something about Draco/Hermione or Harry/Hermione.

Hope you can enjoy!

Chapter 12: Ready to Fight

Two weeks had passed since their NEWTS. And there was only one more week left of school. That very week, the seventh years would find out their NEWT results. The atmosphere was tense, and everyone could feel the tension between each other. Everyone went around to each other, asking the same questions each time. The Gryffindors, Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws gave positive comments, and none of them were stupid enough to ask a Slytherin.

Hermione was particularly nervous. Wherever she went, she would be caught chewing her bottom lip anxiously. She jumped at random people and asked if she would pass, even Slytherins. Everyone would say she will pass, she was after all, the smartest witch in their year (though the Slytherins did not admit). The Slytherins would reply to her rather reluctantly, but they weren't stupid enough to go against Draco Malfoy's girlfriend.

(*)

On Thursday mid-morning, Hermione was sitting in the library reading her favourite book- Defensive Spells for Defence when Draco came storming in.

“Hermione! Quick go!”

“What? Draco, what's happening?”

“The Death Eaters are attacking Hogwarts, the Dark Lord has come to get Potter! Go, run!”

“How did you know Draco?” Hermione asked, wanting to make sure.

“Hermione, my father is a Death Eater, and they get notices straight away. Plus their children.”

“So you mean no one else knows?”

“Yes, maybe a few other Slytherins; other than that, no one else knows. Now go, go away from Hogwarts. I don't want you hurt. You’re a muggle-born, and they’re second on the Death Eater’s list of wanted.”

“Where will you be?”

“I have to go to the Death Eaters, or you will most defiantly never see me again,” Draco told her. “Unless you dig up my grave,” he added.

“This isn’t a time for joking Draco,” Hermione said, suddenly stern.

“And this isn’t a time to do your job as Head Girl,” Draco answered back. “You have to escape, now. Before the Death Eater’s arrive.”

“No Draco, I'm not leaving the Hogwarts grounds alone. I've still got my friends. I can't leave them alone.”

“Stop being so loyal. You have to stay safe, I want you to stay safe.”

“I know, but I just can’t leave Harry, Ron, Ginny, and all the others, and you. I can sacrifice myself if it is really desperate.”

“No you can’t,” Draco raised his voice slightly. “You’re my girlfriend, and I want you to always be with me.”

“I want to be with you too Draco, but if I was to choose between losing my friends and death, I’ll choose death.”

Draco knew there was no point arguing. Hermione's Gryffindor spirit was swelling to the size of a hot air balloon.

“Fine then. But promise me, and stay safe.” He gave Hermione a soft kiss on the lips.

“You too Draco,” Hermione ran towards the library door, but stopped at the door.

Hermione could feel tears welling up at her eyes. She couldn’t bear parting with Draco. She ran back to Draco, and brought his lips to her own. Hermione hoped with all her heart this wouldn’t be their last kiss.

(*)

Draco kissed Hermione back equally passionate. He never remembered being kissed so passionately. True, he had many girlfriends previously, but not one of them kissed him liked this, and he never kissed anyone like this. Draco hoped with all his heart that this wouldn’t be their last kiss.

They finally broke apart, panting slightly.

“Stay safe love, stay safe,” Draco said, his voice a bit hoarse from the kiss.

“I will, you have to keep safe too.”

“I will.”

Hermione slowly started walking away, still facing Draco; then she turned around and ran out of the library. Draco stared at her for as long as he could see her.

Wherever you are Hermione, my heart will be with you, cheering you on, and loving you. I love you Hermione.

(*)

Wherever you are Draco, my heart will be pounding, cheering you on at your hardest times, and it will always be loving you. I love you Draco.

Hermione arrived at Professor Dumbledore’s office. She tried to remember what the password was. Cockroach Clusters? No, that was last weeks. Drooble’s Bubblegum? No, Dumbledore hates bubblegum. Chocolate Cauldrons? No, he already used that. Pumpkin Pasty? No, he used that too. Liquorice Wands? Yes, she was pretty sure…

“Liquorice Wands!” she called at the stone gargoyle.

The stone gargoyle leapt aside, and Hermione bounded onto the steps. She ran up the stairs, and by the time she was at Professor Dumbledore's office, she was out of breath. Clutching her side, she knocked on the door.

“Come in!” Professor Dumbledore's voice called from inside. “Ah, Miss Granger!”

“Professor, Voldemort and his Death Eaters are attacking the school. You've got to get everyone into safety.”

“Miss Granger, where did you get this piece of information?”

“Draco told me!”

“Of course. Being the son of a Death Eater, it is quite hard to not know the Death Eater's plans. Well, thank you Miss Granger, can I get you to go and tell Professors Sprout, McGonagall and Flitwick to get their house into the Great Hall? I believe Narcissa Malfoy would joining the Death Eaters in no time. Afterwards, please retreat to the Great Hall yourself. In the mean time, I shall call the order.”

Hermione could not understand why Professor Dumbledore was sounding so calm. But she did not stop to think. She was already bounding down the steps and tearing down the corridor. She tore out of the school, and sprinted down to the Greenhouses.

“Professor, please! Professor Dumbledore told me to tell you to tell your house that Voldemort and his Death Eaters are attacking the school.”

There was an immediate uproar between the first years. They panicked, and it took Professor Sprout several loud bangs from her wand to stop them.

“Please return to your dormitories and wait for your heads of houses.”

The first years scrambled towards the door, and Professor Sprout thanked Hermione.

“No worries Professor!” Hermione exclaimed over the noise.

Hermione pushed passed several first years to get to the door. She went to the other three teachers, and in every class, the students panicked. Finally she went to the Great Hall, and sat down at the Gryffindor table. Soon, the whole school was coming into the Great Hall.

“Hermione, what happened? McGonagall told us that you told her that Professor Dumbledore wants the whole school in the Great Hall,” Harry asked, as he, Ron and Ginny fought over to her.

“It's Voldemort, he's attacking the school.”

“How are you sure?” Ginny asked.

Before Hermione could even answer, someone else answered for her. Voldemort's clear, cold voice boomed all over the Great Hall.

“Teachers and students of Hogwarts! Your hands hold Harry Potter, and if you are wise, pass him over. If he is not passed over in a hour, your lives shall end. I give you only a hour to think. If you want your lives, pass him over, and you shall be spared. Unwise enough to not pass him over, you lose your life. Only one hour I will give you.”

The booming voice stopped, and left ringing silence in the Great Hall.

“Can the Heads of Houses please take their houses to the seventh floor where you will find some portkeys to evacuate from the school. It should all lead you to Diagon Alley, the biggest and safest place from Hogwarts ,” Professor Dumbledore called from the front of the hall.

“What if we want to stay and fight for Harry Potter?” Ernie Macmillian called from the Hufflepuff table.

“If you are seventeen or over, yes, you may stay. But under seventeen, please go with your Heads of Houses. Now, can the Heads of Houses, take their students to the seventh floor? Slytherins, please go with Professor Ebonsky.”

The Slytherins immediately stood up and went towards door. Several Ravenclaws left, while a bit over half of the Hufflepuffs left. Nearly everyone in Gryffindor stayed. Only the first, second and third years left.

“Absolutely not Gryffindors. Fourth, fifth and sixth years come with me,” McGonagall exclaimed at the Gryffindors.

A few more Gryffindors left. Now all the seventh years, Ginny Weasley and Colin Creevey were left.

“Miss Weasley, Creevey, please stop being so stubborn.”

“I want to stay!” Ginny retorted angrily, close to tears. “My whole family is going to be fighting. I can't stand not knowing,” Ginny said to Professor McGonagall.

“Minerva, Miss Weasley may stay. She has done more than any of the sixth years, and I'm sure she wouldn't want to not know what is happening to her family, ” Professor Dumbledore said to McGonagall as he strode down from the front of the hall. “But, Mr Creevey, I'm sorry to say, but you'll have to go. You do not understand what it is like. You have not gone through as much as Miss Weasley.”

Professor McGonagall lead all of the Gryffindors to the seventh floor, half pulling the struggling Colin. When all every member of the order and everyone had settled down, Dumbledore once more stood at the front of the hall.

“I guess you know why you've all stayed.” The whole group of people nodded aggressively. “Well then, first we need some people to block all of the secret passageways.”

“Come on George,” Fred said, who also turned up with George.

“Coming Fred, “ George replied back.

And the two walked out of the Great Hall, followed by Lee Jordan who had turned up with some other old students.

“Next, we need four adults taking another group in every tower.”

“Kingsley, Minerva, Filius and I can do that,” Lupin said looking around to all of the other three he pointed out. They all nodded in approval.

“Can the Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw students follow them, and Minerva, you can sort them into small groups. Gryffindors, spread yourselves across the school, and get ready to fight.”

A great shuffling told everyone that they were moving to their rightful places.

“Harry Potter!” Dumbledore’s booming voice called out in over the shuffling. “Please stay behind. Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley may stay if they wish.” Harry, Hermione and Ron battled their way back to Professor Dumbledore.

“Harry, do you still remember about the Horcruxes.”

“Yes sir.”

“I have been searching for them for the whole year, and have destroyed a few of them. Four of them remain, and I hope you can destroy them. You two will be very welcome to help.” He looked at Hermione and Ron

“Professor, what Horcruxes remain?” Hermione asked Dumbledore.

“I cannot be sure, but I believe, Rowena Ravenclaw's lost diadem, Voldemort's snake Nagini, Voldemort himself, and the last one, still remains unknown.”

“Professor, how are we supposed to find Ravenclaw's lost diadem?” Harry especially emphasised the 'lost'.

“I believe you will find it somewhere in this school,” Dumbledore said plainly.

“Sorry to interrupt, but exactly what is a diadem?” Ron asked completely bewildered.

“It's something like a tiara.” Hermione answered immediately. “You know what a tiara is.”

“Yeah, I don’t know what a tiara is,” Ron replied sarcastically.

“Now that you all know what it is,” Dumbledore gave Hermione a smile, “ you need to know what it looks like. Follow me,” and waved his hands, gesturing to let them follow them.

Harry, Ron and Hermione followed Dumbledore to the Ravenclaw Common Room. He knocked on an eagle shaped knocker. Instead of asking for a password, a cool, female voice asked,” Where do vanished objects go?”

“What do you three think?” Professor Dumbledore asked.

“Isn't there a password?” Ron asked, satisfied from the other way of getting into a common room.

“It's so they can learn new things,” Hermione answered.”It's all in Hogwarts: A History,” she added, seeing the surprised looks on Harry and Ron's face. “Hmmm, I think that vanished objects go into non-being. In other words, everywhere.”

“Excellent answer,” the female voice said as the door swung open.

“Well done Miss Granger,” Professor Dumbledore said to her as they walked into the Ravenclaw Common Room.

I tall statue of Rowena Ravenclaw towered over Professor Dumbledore, Harry, Ron and Hermione. A tiara like object was on top of her head. Harry, Ron and Hermione moved closer to see the words etched on the diadem closely.

“Wit Beyond Measure Is Man's Greatest Treasure,” Harry read out loud.

“Yes, Ravenclaw's very personal motto,” Dumbledore said from behind them. “Now, I think you guys can start searching, or you'll never get anything done. Please be careful, and good luck.”

I nearly cried when I wrote that bit. (I’m a bit emotional)

And I know, I copied the bit where Ron asks what a diadem is from the book (chapter ‘the lost diadem’ pg. 470 in the deathly hallows), but I had to make sure someone asked what a diadem was, so Dumbledore could take them to see. And Ron isn’t that intelligent (sorry to all of the Ron Weasley fans!) so……
I also copied the question to go into the Ravenclaw Common Room, because it’s a cool question, and I really like it.

Okay, there was some Dramione, maybe I was a bit too carried away. Don’t forgot to review. I love reading comments. Even bad ones!
