I closed my eyes and held tight to Lily’s hand. I had always hated apparition. Still until next week this was the only way for me to get anywhere. I guessed I’d have to get used to it sooner or later right?
Lily Evans had her birthday about a week ago and was now seventeen. She was the only person I knew who lived within walking distance of my house. She was also one of my very best friends. And that’s saying a lot considering I only had about four friends in the whole world.
My other friends were Mary, Alice, and at the moment a certain Ravenclaw named David. I hadn’t known him long but I felt as if we had known each other for a long time. He was good friends with the marauders which seemed to be his only fault.
I knew he wasn’t one of them and he didn’t do the same kinds of things they did but still. He lived right across the street from them just like Alice. This was why Lily and I were apparating there. She was going to spend the day with Alice and I would spend the day with David.
I was excited but also kind of scared to spend a whole day with alone with him but he said we could always go somewhere more public. He understood me so well! Lily and Alice didn’t seem to mind this arrangement. They even congratulated it!
After what felt like hours spinning through darkness we landed in front of Alice’s house. She came out and left within moments of saying good bye to me. I was about to turn when a tall figure ran up and blocked my path.
I groaned and backed a few feet away from him. Sirius Black stood before grey eyes blazing. “What are you doing here Black?” I spat his name with as much venom as I could muster. He was not going to ruin my day.
“I could ask you the same question Saint.” I snarled at him. Yes snarled like a dog. My name was Sarah Saint and I had spent my whole life making sure to live that name down. No one calls me a saint. Most stick with devil, spawn of Satan, lunatic, crazy, danger to the school, danger to toddlers, and danger to marauders (especially Sirius Black) etc. the list goes on.
I love when I’m looked at like I might blow at any second. Even with all those harsh titles David sees past the rumors like a gentleman. Sirius on the other hand probably started most of those rumors. I didn’t mind though. I ignored him just as I’m (partly) doing now.
“I mean didn’t I just see Lily and Alice leave?” Merlin why couldn’t he just leave? Even his voice made me want to cringe.
Just as I was about to whip out the first thing my fingers would touch in my pocket (either being a wand a large rock or a sharpened pencil) an arm snaked around my shoulders from my left. I turned to see David standing beside me as glorious as ever. His brown eyes shined with a challenge and his blonde short hair blew in a breeze.
“She’s here to see me.” He smiled down at me and my heart fluttered in my chest.
“Seriously?” Sirius asked. I laughed at him. He looked at me with cloudy confused eyes.
“Cause your name is Sirius man.” David spoke up. See? He does get me!
“Oh. Well why is she staying with you?” he asked his ears somewhat red.
“Is it not obvious?” I snapped at him.
“Oh.” He said again. “So you two are…”
“Yes Sirius we’re dating. I’m surprised you hadn’t realized it because we’ve been to together for a few months. Including our time at Hogwarts.” I looked up at him eyebrows raised.
“Sorry I don’t stick my nose into other people’s business.” He said haughtily.
I glared up at him and tugged on David’s shirt sleeve. We walked away leaving a very mad Sirius in our wake.
