Remember all the things we wanted
Now all our memories, they're haunted
We were always meant to say goodbye
Even without fists held high, yeah
Never would have worked out right, yeah
We were never meant for do or die
I didn't want us to burn out
I didn't come here to hurt you now
I can't stop

"Argh!" I yelled, frustrated. Harry wasn't being very cooperative with his Halloween costume. It was October 31, 1981. I was supposed to take Harry out trick-or-treating, but at this point, it was totally pointless. I changed Harry into his pajamas and waited for James to get home on the couch.

About two hours later, James walked through the front door, followed by Sirius and Remus. They all had grim looks on their faces.

"What is it?" I asked, looking at their expressions. James spoke first.

"He's coming."

I want you to know
That it doesn't matter
Where we take this road
Someone's gotta go
And I want you to know
You couldn't have loved me better
But I want you to move on
So I'm already gone

"What?!"

"Voldemort is coming," Remus said. "Pettigrew told him."

I was shocked - not because it was Peter that had told Voldemort, but because Remus had called one of his closest friends by his surname.

"What are we going to do?"

"Siruis and I will be guarding your house. We will try to fend him off as best as we can, but you two will need to be armed. Just as a precaution."

"How did you acquire this information?"

"We may have, uh,... poured some Veratiserum into Snape's glass when he wasn't looking," Sirius said sheepishly.

"Figures," I said.

Looking at you makes it harder
But I know that you'll find another
That doesn't always make you wanna cry
Started with a perfect kiss
Then we could feel the poison set in
Perfect couldn't keep this love alive
You know that I love you so
I love you enough to let you go

After about an hour of discussion, Remus and Sirius went outside to protect us. Once they were outside, James came over and gave me a huge hug.

"No matter what happens," he said, his voice shaking as the tears began to form. "I will still love you."

"I will always love you," I said back as tears streaked down my face. Harry whimpered in my arms.

We shifted throughout the house - either standing or sitting in the family room, we were always together.

Suddenly, green and red flashes started coming from outside. We looked through the curtain blocking our house to see not only Sirius and Remus locked in a duel, but also Dumbledore was quickly sending spells at the vile man standing before them.

"I'm going to go help," James said, reaching for his wand.

But the fight was finished - Dumbledore had his wand pointed at the motionless, limp form that was Voldemort.

I want you to know
That it doesn't matter
Where we take this road
Someone's gotta go
And I want you to know
You couldn't have loved me better
But I want you to move on
So I'm already gone
I'm already gone
I'm already gone
You can't make it feel right
When you know that it's wrong
I'm already gone
Already gone
There's no moving on
So I'm already gone

Sixteen Years Later...

"Happy Birthday, Harry!" I exclaimed, rushing into my son's room with my special 'Birthday Breakfast' on tray. James followed closely behind.

"GAH!" Harry fell out of bed, startled by the sudden noise. "Mom! Merlin's Beard, you scared me!" I shrugged, smiling at my of age son.

"Be thankful, young man," I said. "After you graduate, I'm kicking you out to move in with Ginny."

"What?!" We turned around to see our fourteen year old and ten year old daughters standing in the doorway behind us.

"He's moving out?!" Alex and Mable shouted at the same time. Alex was excited, whereas Mable wasn't.

"Yes, because he needs to grow up and get start giving me grandchildren."

"MOM!" All three of my kids shouted at the same time. I laughed.

After a few hours of family time, Ginny, Hermione, and Ron all came over to our house.

"Ah," I said. "There's the young woman that is going to give me grandchildren." I hadn't said it loud enough for her to hear, but Alex and Harry heard me.

"Mother! Not again!" James and I laughed our heads off. It was at that point when Sirius walked in, followed by Remus and Tonks.

"Harry! Happy Birthday!" Tonks yelled, wrapping her arms around Harry. He chuckled (Oh, Merlin, he sounds like James when he does that!), hugging her back.

"Hi, Auntie Tonks. Hey, Uncle Remus and Uncle Sirius. Wanna go play Quidditch?"

The boys went out back to play Quidditch. The teams were Harry, Ron, and Ginny and James, Sirius, and Remus. James' team won, 340-150.

Already gone
Already gone
Already gone, oooo, oh
Already gone
Already gone
Already gone, yeah
Remember all the things we wanted
Now all our memories, they're haunted
We were always meant to say goodbye

James came ad scooped me up onto his broom.

"I love you," he said.

"I love you, too," I said. And I kissed him on the lips.

"EW! GROSS! MOM! DAD! STOP!" My kids shouted. We broke apart and laughed.
