Somehow, I must find help.

He must not get control over me.

First, though, I need them on my side.

He will fall, eventually.

And now, there won’t be anyone there to catch him.

“The champion for Durmstrang,”

Said Dumbledore, his piercing voice interrupting Draco’s thoughts,

"will be Viktor Krum!”

Together with the rest of his house, Draco applauded as Krum disappeared through the door to the next chamber.

Draco continued musing the idea of what would happen if he was chosen as Triwizard representative as Dumbledore announced the winner for Beauxbatons-a pretty girl called Fleur Delacour.

Silence overcame the Great Hall as the anticipation began for the announcement of the Hogwarts champion. Draco finally began paying attention to what was going on.

“The Hogwarts champion- Cedric Diggory!”

Draco frowned as the hall broke out into cheers again. If only he could have participated. Imagine the whole school looking in admiration to him, as they did now with Diggory. Dumbledore was now talking. Draco couldn’t care less.

Yes, maybe that’s what I want. Admiration. Respect.

Then why can’t i appreciate this opportunity?

I just want to get myself out of it.

The one thing that could possibly bring me everything I’d ever need.

“..By cheering your champion on, you will contribute in a very real....”

Dumbledore stopped speaking.

The flame in the Goblet had turned red again. Within it lay another sheet of parchment.

Dumbledore snatched the paper with shaking hands.

He stared at it for a long time.

“Harry Potter.”

Draco dropped the goblet he was holding.

“Harry potter!?” Came the urgent whisper in the crowd.

Dumbledore was talking again.

Draco watched as Harry walked slowly towards the door that the champions had gone through. In any normal circumstance, Draco would have hissed in indignation at the very fact that Harry was allowed to compete despite being underage.

This time, however, was different.

Draco had bigger things on his mind than some stupid competition.
The initial shock at this announcement has sadly, gotten hold of Draco and he hurriedly swept up the glass that used to be his goblet with a quick spell.

Dinner after continued with its usual splendour.  Once Draco finished playing with his food , he headed straight to bed, ignoring Crabbe and Goyle’s calls for him to wait.

He couldn’t sleep the whole night. He knew what was facing him

The next day, Draco continued about his lessons without much thought about the day ahead. That was, though, until Care of Magical Creatures, the first class he had with the Gryffindors since Harry had become a champion.

Draco was determined to keep up his proud demeanour.

“Ah. Look, boys, it’s the champion,” he said to Crabbe and Goyle.

“Got your autograph books? Better get a signature now..Half the Triwizard champions have died...How long do you think he’ll last?” Draco sneered as his friends laughed loudly.

Through the entire lesson, Draco did his best to irritate Harry as much as he possibly could. He couldn’t let Harry figure out something was up with him. He wouldn’t let anyone else think that too.

The next class was Potions.

Finally, a place to think. Snape won’t care if I don’t finish my antidote.

As Draco walked to the entrance to the dungeons, he found each and every one of his Slytherin classmates wearing a large badge in the front of their robes. The badges were identical and all said “Support CEDRIC DIGGORY-the REAL Hogwarts Champion!” Draco grinned as Pansy Parkinson passed him a badge. Apparently, that wasn’t all the badges did .Draco found, to his amusement, that when pressed, they glowed green and displayed “POTTER STINKS”

He took great delight in showing these to Potter and his friends as they walked into Potions.

Strangely, Weasley wasn’t doing anything to support Potter, Draco noticed. That was strange. Perhaps they’d had a fight, or something.

Maybe this could be good.

Maybe it will be easier to reach her this way.
