Chapter Thirteen: Draco’s Cliff
Hermione made her way up the stairs of the Astronomy tower that night after dinner. She had almost forgotten that she had a date with Draco. She seemed to forget that a lot. She just had so much going on right there, it was hard to remember things like that.
She looked around once she got to the top, but didn’t see Draco.
“Draco?” She requested as she begin to walk around. Had he stood her up this time? Just to show her what he had went through when she had been late? Surely not… she had had a good excuse last time…
“Hermione, over here!” She heard a voice call, but looking around she didn’t see anyone else in the room. It had sounded like Draco… was he invisible?
“Draco?” She asked, unsure, feeling as if she were talking to herself.
“I’m over here! At the window!” The voice explained. Hermione whipped around to see Draco hovering at the window on his broom. She rushed over to him.
“What are you doing out there?” She looked around the ground to see if anyone saw him. He laughed at her paranoia.
“I am flying… what does it look like… get on.” He instructed, pulling closer to the window. Hermione laughed a bit, thinking he was joking. “I am serious, get on.”
“No… I am deathly afraid of flying.” She explained, taking a step back.
“Get on the broom. We are going to miss it if we stand here all day…” Draco informed her, sounding a bit more impatient.
“Miss what?” Hermione inquired, curiously.
“It is a surprise… one you will never know unless you get on the broom.” Draco smirked a bit and Hermione rolled her eyes. He obviously knew that Hermione couldn’t take not knowing something. It killed her. So, with a deep sigh, she climbed on the broom, holding on to Draco’s waist very tightly.
“It’s…it’s…high…” Hermione stuttered, tightening her grip. She heard Draco laugh a bit. “This isn’t funny!” She closed her eyes tightly.
“Yes it is…” She heard him whisper to himself. She didn’t reply, just held on tight. She gasped as she felt them start to move.
About five minutes later Hermione felt them stop moving. She opened her eyes a little to see they had hit ground. She sat up sight, putting her feet on the ground and climbing off the broom before Draco could tell her it was all right. Draco followed in her suit and sat the broom against a huge rock wall. He motioned her over to him, but hadn’t said a word since they had gotten there. Hermione took a deep breath and walked over to him, following him around a corner.
“Draco…” Hermione began, but Draco turned around and put a finger to his lips letting her know to be quite. As they rounded the corner Hermione gasped. They were on a very high cliff that over looked all of Hogwarts.
When she looked back at Draco he was sitting on a blanket that she hadn’t noticed before, looking at her as if he were waiting on her to join him. She smiled a bit, kind of scared, and went and sat down.
“I brought you up here to watch the sunset. We are a bit early though.” Draco explained to her. “It is the most beautiful thing you will ever see in your life…. I mean, besides you.”
“Oh…” Hermione blushed a bit at the compliment, not really sure of how to take it.
Draco leaned back on the big rock wall that was at the back of the blanket and motioned Hermione to move closer to him. When she did he wrapped his arms around her tightly as she leaned against him.
“I really do like you, Hermione…” This sounded as if he was realizing it for himself rather than telling her. “I have never felt this way before, and to be completely honest, it scares me.”
“Why?” Hermione questioned, looking up at him. For the first time ever Hermione noticed Draco’s facial features twist in confusion.
“I am not really sure.” He confessed, looking out over Hogwarts. That lead to a five minute party of silence. Not being able to take it anymore, Hermione was the first to talk.
“How did you find this place?”
“It was during out first year after Potter made the qudditch team. I was really angry and just took off flying… I kind of got lost and landed here because it was getting dark… spent the night here and watched the sunrise…” Draco shrugged a little. “Been coming back ever since. It is like my safe haven… somewhere I come to think.”
“Oh… is the sunrise just as beautiful as the sunset?” Hermione questioned, wondering what it must look like from up there.
“You are actually going to be the judge of that yourself.” Draco answered, a slight smirk on his face.
“What?” Hermione sat up, looking at him.
“We are going to stay up here tonight… don’t worry, I had Pansy get your clothe and things you need.” Draco assured her.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” She kept on.
“Because I knew you wouldn’t come…” Draco laughed a bit. “Plus that ruins the element of surprise, now doesn’t it?”
Hermione didn’t argue anymore, just cuddled up closer to Draco and watched the sunset. As she sat there watching she realized that he had been right. The purples and pinks blending together and reflecting over the water sent chills down her spine. It made everything seem so quite, as if Aiden had cast the death spell over her. She inhaled deeply, just to make sure she wasn’t deaf. At this she felt Draco’s hand begin to move up and down her arm. She smiled a bit and looked up at him to notice he was looking right back at her. He hadn’t been watching the sunset.
When she turned back to the sunset she was kind of depressed to see that it had gone. All that was left in it’s place was a crescent moon surrounded by stars. It was then she began to think that spending the night up here might not be so bad.
It was kind of making her uncomfortable that there had been a silence again since they had began to watch the sunset. She cleared her throat. When she didn’t get a reply she looked back to see that Draco had fallen asleep. She laughed a bit to herself, wondering if she should wake him up or not.
“Hermione,” she heard a voice hiss from above her. She looked around, careful not to move too much, not wanting to wake Draco. “Hermione,” the voice said again and she recognized it right away this time. She slowly got up and walked around the corner to see Aiden, as she had known she would.
“What are you doing here, Aiden?” Hermione whispered.
“Looking for you! You didn’t return to the common room and I got worried… I didn’t know he had been planning on taking you off school grounds!” He sounded a bit angry and Hermione sighed.
“I am fine… you know, you aren’t my father. I am a big girl. I can take care of myself.” How was it she had said that same sentence twice in one day?
“Don’t give me that shit, Hermione!” Aiden began and she was taken aback. He had a new look in his eye that she had never seen before. “He could have taken you up here with a gang of death eaters and killed you on the spot!”
“He isn’t a death eater, though!” Hermione shot back.
“Yet…” Aiden took in a deep breath and she could tell he was trying to regain some of his cool. “Will you just try to be corporative… you are the first friend I have really ever had and I don’t want to lose you to something as foolish as you not letting me protect you.”
“Aiden…” Hermione wanted to argue, but after seeing the look of sincerity in his eyes she really didn’t have thing she could argue against. “Fine…”
“Hermione…” This time it wasn’t Aiden’s voice, but Draco’s. Hermione turned her head, not able to see him around the corner.
“You’d better go before he sees…” As she turned her head back around to say you Aiden had done vanished, but she knew that he wasn’t too far away. She smiled a little bit, some of her still annoyed, at that fact that he was watching over her.
Hermione walked around the corner to see Draco standing over the cliff looking down. He turned toward her at the sound of her rustling feet. He smiled, which made her smile.
“Hey…” He yawned. “Where did you go.”
“Oh…” How was she going to explain where she was? She couldn’t tell him that she had been talking to Aiden. “Just exploring… thought you were asleep.”
“I woke up…” Draco shrugged and walked over to her, wrapping his arms around her. He gently kissed Hermione on the forehead.
“It amazes me how you keep surprising me.” Hermione thought out loud. “How is it you can be so incredibly sweet to me, but when it comes to others you are a complete prick?”
“I can feel I can be myself with you.” He sighed, looking down at her. “It’s hard to explain. With people back at school I have a reputation to up hold, but around you I can simply be Draco.”
Hermione really wasn’t for sure what to say when he was finished. All she did was lean against him, her head on his chest. It was only their third date and Hermione felt so close to him, but at the back of her mind Fred stayed there. She knew she didn’t feel the same way about him as she did for Draco, the way he held her at that very moment told her that, but there was something. She hated that he was mad at her and she was scared that George had changed into some kind of monster. She jumped a bit as he came into her mind. She hadn’t even thought about that since she had came back to school. She should have talked to Aiden about it…
“What’s wrong?” She heard and felt Draco breathe into her ear. It was really soothing.
“Nothing,” She shook her head, moving closer to him. All that could wait for the day to come… all that mattered right now was the way he was holding her. She could feel every muscle in his arm and chest tighten around her. She looked up at him and smiled. He took this opportunity to press his lips against hers.
This kiss wasn’t like anything she had felt before. It was defiantly unlike how he had kissed her the night before. His lips were moist yet strong and full of passion. Hermione gave into the kiss almost instantly. The little bit of Fred that lingered in the back of her mind was gone the moment he placed his lips over her.
Draco’s lips worked over Hermione’s in a slow and easy way at first, but as he continued he got more and more passionate and edger. After a bit she felt a warm hand creep up her shirt. She didn’t really think anything of it, too caught up in the moment.
It wasn’t long before her shirt was off and bra unhooked. Draco then picked her up and laid her down on her back on the blanket. It was then that the alarms started going off in Hermione’s head. She turned her head, but all Draco did was begin to kiss down her neck.
“Draco…” she choked out, but he paid no attention to this. Hermione’s mind went into frantic over drive. She did the first thing that came to mind, which was brought her leg up hard between Draco’s legs. He feel on her in pain. She pushed him off of her grabbing her shirt, and got up and ran around the corner.
“Aiden!” She cried out, wondering why he hadn’t been helping before. “Aiden.” She said a bit more quietly. It took him a minute, but soon enough he came swooping down.
“What’s wrong?” Aiden asked looking confused.
“Haven’t you been watching?” Hermione questioned.
“No… I thought you could take care of yourself…” Aiden continued, but then he noticed how she was dressed. Hermione quickly threw on her shirt. “What happened?!” Aiden demanded.
“Hermione…” They heard Draco’s voice came around the corner.
“Just get me out of her. I will explain later.” Hermione felt tears drop down her face. Aiden nodded, scooped her up in his arms, and kicked off the ground, flying. Hermione closed her eyes, curling up close to Aiden, hoping that Draco hadn’t saw.
When she felt the world stop moving she opened her eyes, but to her surprise they weren’t at Hogwarts.
“Where are we?” She inquired, looking around. It was a cave lit by a small fire.
“It’s Javtie Cave.” Aiden replied simply. “This was where I was. I had to go hunting… now what happened?
“Well it wasn’t really Draco’s fault, before you get all mad…” Hermione started off and then explained to him what had happened. “And my mind just started screaming at me and I just went into over drive…”
“It was his fault, Hermione.” Aiden finally said after awhile. “I know he is just a guy and he probably just got caught up in the moment, but he should have stopped and asked you first.”
“I think he thought it was romantic… I don’t know… I don’t want to think about it. Let’s go back to Hogwarts and get some sleep.”
Aiden just shook his head.
“No, he will go back. Even if it wasn’t all his fault, I don’t want you being there with him. You will stay here in the cave.” Aiden let out a deep sigh that made Hermione think that there was something else there.
“What is it?”
“What is what?”
“What is bothering you?” Hermione pushed on. Aiden looked up, meeting her eye, and Hermione could tell that he thought about lying to her.
“I was just planning on going to watch Britni sleep tonight…” He shrugged. “But I can do that tomorrow night. You need me now.”
Hermione felt a pain of guilt pain through her. She hadn’t told Aiden about her talk with Britni, but he probably knew if he read her mind. She made a mental note to work harder at that relationship.
Aiden took Hermione’s hand and led her to the back of the cave where she couldn’t see. He laid her down on a very soft bed and moved next to her. Hermione wanted to talk, but exhaustion hit her hard, and she was asleep in less than five minutes.
