The Date With James Potter

“Okay Lily,” My best friend, Mary told me as we sat across from each other at the Gryffindor table to eat our breakfast, “I haven’t brought up a thing, but now I am. Tell me everything that happened last night between you and James. Why did you come back in high spirits? Did he make any moves to, you know, kiss you? Give me all the gory details.”

I rolled my eyes at her enthusiasm. “If you must know, it was absolutely the best date a guy has ever taken me on.” I sighed happily, thinking back to night before, “He was so sweet, nice, and just not the boy I took him as.”

“Aww!” Mary exclaimed joyfully, “You’ve fallen in love!”

I rolled my eyes yet again. “Do you want me to tell you what happened or not?” I asked her, annoyed by her stubbornness. It was the second time in the last two days that she pushed my buttons.

Her face became serious again and she nodded.

“Well,” I began, “His charm began to work on my as soon as he asked what I wanted to do.”

“So, Lily…” He began sheepishly, running his hands through his already very messy hair. For the first time in my life I think I’m seeing James, well, nervous. Odd, “What do you want to do?”

I restrained myself from saying “Leave,” and instead said, “Um…I don’t know. What do you want to do?”

“Anything you want.”

“Well,” I said suddenly remembering what I had planned to originally do tonight instead of being here with James, “I did kind of want to study, but you don’t go in the library anymore.” I was hoping that he’d be generous enough to go there anyways.

“Lily, I swore to myself that I’d never step into the library ever again, only for my plan to get you on a date with me. All it is is a room full of books,” My heart sank. I looked at my feet, trying to hide the disappointment in them, “But,” I looked up, “for you, I’ll do anything.”

“At that point, I think my heart was basically going wild,” I told Mary truthfully. It really was the sweetest thing that I have ever witnessed in my entire life, and made me melt to see the sincerity in his voice and in his eyes.

“So…” Mary began, obviously get bored or my reminiscing, “Are you, or are you not going to continue with what happened?”

I blushed scarlet. “Oh, right.”

I came back to the table we were sitting at with a stack of heavy books that all looked quite interesting to me. James was already sitting there with his nose dug into a book named Humorous Happenings in Magic. It was the type of book that I had expected him to pick up, so I was not surprised.

I sat down in the chair next to him and picked up the book at the top of the stack. I opened it and began to read. It was very hard to concentrate when I kept thinking about how James has finally managed to get me on a date with him. It’s all rather funny. They should put the story in the book he’s reading right now. I laughed out loud.

James looked up from his book and stared at me questioningly. “What?”

“Oh, nothing,” I told him with a small smile, “I just thought of something funny is all.” My face turned red in embarrassment, and I shyly tried to hide my face with my hair. That was a mistake.

“Lily, don’t hide your face,” James said quietly from beside me, “It’s far too pretty, and you just have the most amazing green eyes.”

It felt like my face was on fire. I flashed him a smile and tucked my hair behind my ear like he told me.

“Thanks, James.”

“That has got to be the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to anyone!” Mary was jumping in her seat now. I rolled my eyes, but nodded in agreement. Just thinking back to the memory caused me to turn a deep shade of red.

It was all I could say. Not because I just wasn’t so amazed about it like Mary was (I was probably even more amazed) but that I was simply breathless when I think back to it. He really was just the most amazing boy ever. Funny; if I had thought that yesterday morning I would have thought I’d gone mad. Then again, maybe I have.

“Tell me more!”

I rolled my eyes again.

It had been at least an hour in the library when I finally decided to be nice and let James do something he wanted to do. He scrunched up his nose in thought and sat for a few moments thinking.

“Well,” He said slowly, “I do know this great place to just sit and look at the sky. But in my opinion, it’s way too romantic.”

“I like romantic,” I said quickly; too quickly. He looked up me, surprised. Our eyes met and he smiled. I returned it feebly.

“Let’s go then!” He sounded just as excited as I was feeling. He stood up and offered his hand to me and yanked me up. We ran at top speed from the library, ignoring the yells the librarian was throwing at us about no running in the library. We didn’t stop when we got into the corridor. We only paused once we got to the entrance of the school. James pushed the doors open and pulled me outside.

“James,” I muttered loud enough for him to hear, “It’s almost dark. We can’t be out long; we’ll get in trouble.”

“No we won’t,” He replied, “If anyone comes out here, I’ll let you hide under my Invisibility Cloak.”

“What about you?”

“I’d take detention over not being able to be with you any day.”

“That’s really sweet, James.”

He flashed his perfectly white teeth and pulled me to the side of the lake. We both sat down and stared at the sky. He was right; the sky looked amazing from here. I never noticed before. Hogwarts has a great view. The mountains really help to exaggerate the sunset.

It was a while before I realized that James still had his hand in mine. It felt good. Without really thinking I gave his hand a gentle squeeze and looked at him. It shocked me to find his gaze on me instead of on the stars. He smiled at me.

“I can’t believe that I’m sitting here with you.”

“Really?” I asked. I had always known that one of these days James would have found some way to get me to go on a date with him. I feared that day with a passion, but now I’m just really glad that all his antics and pestering pulled off. “I can.”

I heard his breath catch in his throat.

“Is this where he kisses you?” Mary asked impatiently.

“If you don’t stop interrupting me you may never know,” I teased her, wiggling my eyebrows.

“Fine, I’ll shut up.”

“Lily, I really like you. Like a lot.”

Suddenly I found us very close. I had to focus very hard on breathing when his breath hit my face. And, at that moment, something seemed to click in my mind. I very nearly slapped myself in the face for being so stupid.

“I really like you too, James.”

And, without waiting for my words to click in his mind, I leaned in and pressed my lips to his.

*A/N: So, uh, what do you think? That was the sequel to my first story. To tell you the truth, I thought it was a bit too fluffy for me. But yeah, tell me what you think! And everything but the plot I own not. D:
