Sweat dripped down my face, as the adrenaline pumped through my veins, and my feet pounded the ground. Stray brown hair that had escaped from my ponytail was now plastered to my face. I could smell blood, and didn’t know where it had come from. My bloodshot eyes raked the forest path wildly, searching for any obstacles in my way. I heard rustling behind me, and knew they were coming closer, there was no way I could outrun them. But still, I pushed myself faster. The forest started getting darker, and night fell. Though I could not see it, I knew the moon would soon be bright in the sky.

Before I could make sense of the darkened forest, a pair of thundering footsteps reached my ears, louder than any thing I heard before. A pair of strong, tan arms grabbed me from behind. We came to a skittering halt, nearly falling over. I let out a bloodcurdling scream; it rang forever in my own ears. The arms tightened as I struggled against them. I bit and scratched at the arms, satisfied only when they started bleeding, deep gashes and crescent shaped teeth marks forever embedded on the skin. They still continued to hold me against my will, however. I screamed again, now half-crazed.

Finally I turned my blood stained face to stare into the gray eyes of my captor. I almost relaxed as I recognized them, until a stray thought reminded me of their unfaithfulness, of their murderous nature. Another pair of smaller, less muscled but still deadly arms wrapped around me, helping to hold me. I soon weakened and fell against the ground as they dropped me to the ground. When I finally looked up, they encircled me. Their faces were mangled with ferociousness; their forced smiles didn’t comfort me. Their eyes were full of killing. I did not recognize the faces I once loved and trusted.
    “Don’t kill me…” I whimpered, faking weakness.
“We don’t want to kill you.” One of them said.
“But you still will.” I almost laughed.
    “No we won’t.” Another said.
“I DON’T BELIEVE YOU!” I screamed, echoing off the trees, and my voice going hoarse. They didn’t even flinch.
“Trust us.” My original captor said, pleading in the voice.
“Just come back to the castle with us, please!” A flicker of hope flashed through their faces as I stood up. I gave them no mercy.
“I don’t trust you.” I said, each venom filled word directed to the one who had caught me. Still they stayed stoic, letting few emotions register on their faces.
“We promise we will not kill you.” That’s when I saw my chance of escape.
“Promises can be broken.” And I had run through a gap in the circle as soon as the last word left my mouth.
I was running even faster now, my bare feet hitting the earth with great force. My hair was loose now, and whipping back and forth across my back. As I ran, I noticed where the bright light was coming from; the moon was almost fully risen. I almost slowed as I watched the brilliant moon, as I watched it taunting me. I ran deeper into the forest, the branches of the trees blocking the moon, as the forest grew thicker. Soon I couldn’t see my feet. I could still hear my footsteps, however, as well as the ones behind me. Minutes later, I couldn’t hear those anymore either. I was alone, with only my thundering footsteps as company; I thought I saw eyes watching me from the dark depths of the forest. My mind was so preoccupied by the various pairs of eyes watching me, I was sure I was hallucinating. Then, very suddenly, my foot caught on a large tree root, I screamed as a sharp pain spread through my body.

Then I was engulfed in black.
