Harry was fuming. After his conversation with Draco he wondered why he was even worrying about Rose. It wasn’t as if she seemed to care about him anymore. She disappeared and hadn’t told him anything. That wasn’t something you did to someone you cared about. He thought she was special, that he was in love. He didn’t understand how one fight could have turned everything around, how it could have made her leave him like this. He wasn’t even sure if he would ever see her again. His mind was racing with so many thoughts he turned a corned and walked right into someone.

"Ouch, sorry Ginny," he mumbled helping her off the ground.

"It’s fine, I’ve done worse," she smiled. "Have you heard anything about Rose?"

"Nothing important," he breathed realizing he was still holding her hand. He went to pull it back, but her grip tightened.

"I’m here for you if you need anything, I just want you to know that," she wrapped his arms around him, pressing her body up against him. Harry inhaled deeply and she smelled like flowers. It reminded him of happier times with her. As she slowly pulled away their faces were inches apart. Before he could help himself he gently pressed his lips against hers, seeing how she would react. She enthusiastically kissed him harder, more passionately. As he pushed her body up against the hallway wall, he closed his eyes, trying to pretend she was the girl he really wanted.

A month had passed and Rose still had not returned. Still only the teachers knew of the reason she had left, but the rumors had begun to fade from discussion. For some, however, it was still an avid topic. "Draco, has Rose contacted you yet?" Snape questioned while holding him after class.

"No," he said stiffly. "I am sure she need some time to mourn the loss of-"

"We don’t have time Draco, the Dark Lord has very short patience. You need to fix this," Snape looked the young man up and down. "Come with me, we are going to see the headmaster."

"About what?!" Draco exclaimed.

"She needs to come back, and we need to make sure Potter does not leave over Christmas break."

"But then Dumbledore will know.." Draco trailed off.

"Know what? That you’re a Death Eater? Surely you must be joking yourself if you did not think he knew."

"You told him? Does he know about Rose?"

"You really are naive. I was not going to orchestrate such a plan under his nose. He is not that much of a fool. He plays too major of a role."

"He doesn’t.. Care?"

"To an extent, there is nothing he can do. Now enough with the questions, we’re there." Snape said the password and continued into the office, where Dumbledore was waiting expectantly.

"Severus, Mr. Malfoy, good evening. You are just in time to welcome the return of Miss Deloncrè," Albus chuckled at his guests shocked faces. The fire erupted in emerald flames and Rose stepped out, luggage in tow. She looked significantly thinner, and her eyes had dark circles. "Welcome back," he smiled and she looked up, surprised. Her eyes fell on Draco and she ran into his arms. She pulled away, mouth open as if trying to explain.

"It’s okay, I know what happened," he whispered, rubbing her shoulders.

"Does everyone?" she panicked.

"No, no. Just me. Don’t worry."

In the background Snape cleared his throat. "I think we should leave now, I am sure Professor Dumbledore has a lot to say." Snape practically pulled Draco away from Rose and did not stop until they were out into the hallway. "Do not, I repeat, do not let your feelings get in the way of this, Draco." Malfoy stood there staring, his mouth open. "What are you waiting for? Get going!"

Severus stood there watching Draco’s retreating form, and jumped back as Rose walked through the door. "Rose, I wanted to tell you how truly sorry I am for your loss. As you know, you’re parents were very good friends of mine," he paused, confused, as Rose’s eyes flashed towards the ground and her cheeks flushed. "I’m sure there are a lot of people you would like to see. Whenever you have a chance over break come and see me, I can get you caught up." He smiled briefly, before rushing back into Dumbledore’s office.

Draco was running the halls frantically. He wasn’t sure what had made him suspect, but Snape knew about his feelings for Rose. He knew as a Death Eater he could have no emotional attachment. The Dark Lord had promised to spare Rose for him when all was done, but love was a sign of weakness, something that could be used against him. He knew he had to get serious about his assignment if he wanted to secure Rose’s life.

He stopped and leaned against a wall, trying to calm down. He would try to find Potter and talk to him. He wasn’t too sure about what exactly, but he had to take back everything he had said about Rose. Then maybe he could convince Rose to open up to him about her parents, and try to continue on as they were before she left. Minus the fight that is. Draco sighed deeply, he had really made a mess of this whole thing. He turned sharply towards the door of the Ancient Ruins classroom, thinking he heard a noise. As he got closer he could swear he could hear Potter’s voice. Maybe this wouldn’t be so hard after all.

Draco swung open the door, completely unprepared for what he as about to see. Potter was down to his boxers kissing the neck of a topless Ginny Weasley. Her legs were wrapped around him and his hands were somewhere up her skirt. Anger flushed over him as they broke apart suddenly.

"Bloody hell, Malfoy!" Harry swore under his breath as he hastily looked for his pants. He didn’t have much time thought, seeing as in an instant Draco had charged at him and punched him right in the face. Both boys had completely forgotten about their wands and began swinging their fists at each other. "What are you doing?!" Harry yelled.

"She trusted you, you bastard!" Draco spat, landing a hit right in his eye and pinning Harry to the ground. "You tell her you love her, but you’re sneaking around trying to screw some other girl as soon as she is gone!"

"We weren’t- We haven’t," Harry stuttered, trying to get out from under him. "She doesn’t seem to care anyways! She left over a month ago and I haven’t received one letter! But you have, seeing you seem to be her new boyfriend! I saw you kiss her in the common room before she left."

Draco stopped for a second, trying to think back to what Harry might have saw. He remembered kissing her and shedding a tear, knowing the pain and heartbreak that she would experience the next day. "There is nothing going on Potter! She was passed out on the couch, and I admit I leaned down and kissed her forehead. I shouldn’t have, I know, but there was never anything there."

Draco could see something in Harry’s eyes. Guilt, maybe? Regret? It faded quickly as he became serious once more. "She still never told me she was leaving. Who would do that to someone they care about?"

"Her parent’s are dead, okay? Does that make you feel better? They were murdered by Death Eaters and she went back to America to get some things in order. She was so filled with grief she didn’t want to see anyone, talk to anyone. I was lying when she said she had owled me! I would have thought you of anyone could understand that, but obviously I was wrong. You just blamed her. She deserves so much better than you."

Harry just sat there, still in his boxers, looking absolutely destroyed. His eyes went up to the doorway and his mouth fell open. "Rose," he said as everyone looked back. She turned on her heel and ran from the room, Harry jumped up and following her. "Rose!" he yelled after her, but she didn’t stop until Hermione, Ron, and Neville turned a corner, and she ran right into Hermione’s arms crying. Ron was the first to really notice Harry in nothing but his underwear and covered in bruises, Draco and Ginny following.

"What the hell is going on here?" Ron demanded, seeing his sister’s mis-buttoned top.

"Rose I’m sorry, I didn’t know," Harry apologized softly, ignoring Ron’s question.

"It doesn’t matter if you knew or not!" Rose turned on him, her voice cracking. "You said you loved me, and I come back to find you banging some other girl? I can’t believe I ever thought I was falling for you."

Ron went to go after Harry, but Neville held him back. "What did you do to my sister?" he screamed.

"Ron stop it!" Ginny yelled back, not wanting her brother to fight for her.

"Don’t you even start Ginny. I can’t believe you would do that! Like everyone didn’t think you were enough of a whore."

"Ron!" Ginny sobbed.

"No, Harry has a girlfriend, you crossed the line. You were just so desperate to get him back."

Ginny couldn’t even respond she was crying so hard, and Rose spoke up. "Had a girlfriend was more like it," she said cooly, trying to hold back more tears. "And the think the entire time I was in America I thought of you. I thought of how my parent’s had died so suddenly, so unexpectedly, and how precious life is. I thought about how maybe I should have just slept with you at the party, opened my heart to you a little more, let myself fall in love with you. Boy was I wrong." She turned to walk away, leaving the mess of people behind her, shocked.

"Rose," Harry tried to call out to her once more, pleadingly.

"No, I don’t want to hear it. Not now, not ever." She continued back down the hallway. Ron shot a disgusted look at Harry and followed her, then Hermione and Neville did too. Draco went his own way, and eventually, once she had stopped crying, Ginny left too. And Harry just sat, alone, wondering how he could have messed things up so badly.
