M&Ms. That was the thing that had started their story. Their love for them that is. And when they became dueling partners in their Defense Against The Dark Arts class; that helped move things along. Of course, he didn’t know anything about M&Ms because he wasn’t muggleborn. He didn’t know why a different color covered each layer of chocolate, he didn’t understand why each one was small, and he didn’t realize the reason why each color didn’t taste different, as candies that are different colors should. She would smile every time that he picked up an M&M for every time he did, his face would scrunch into one of thought. He puzzled by the mystery of the M&Ms. What did the two m’s stand for? That and the numerous other questions that roamed his mind. But he always seemed to pick up M&Ms because he loved her smile, as it seemed to brighten up the room, so he often ate M&Ms to make her laugh; although it was at him. And her laugh…it was melodic. And when he laughed with her…it was like a melody and harmony, together. Soprano and Bass. Her and Him.

She was actually in awe at the way he would ruffle up his hair (although it was mussed up enough) to attract attention. It was quite an annoying habit, but it worked because he had his own fan club. She was also in shock at how many times one person could get rejected before the point got across that they weren’t wanted. But he was just stubborn like that. He had been hexed so many times by Lily Evans that it was a wonder that he still had his head on. He had begun to give up hop in his or her life. Though it seemed like she was in Hufflepuff with how quiet she was. That was, until he met her.

She was the smart, witty Ravenclaw that everybody needed. She stood with mystifing blue eyes that were so light you would think that they were silver and her brown hair came down to a little below her shoulders, but she almost never had it up in the elegant bun, that signified that she was changing, though. Why? She simply felt no reason to. Only for special occasions she did. And meeting him was certainly no special occasion.

He stood with unruly jet-black hair and mischievous hazel eyes. He had never bothered to comb through his hair to tame it. Only for special occasions. But meeting that oh-so-different Ravenclaw was definitely no special occasion.

And just in general they were just so…different. He was a Quidditch fanatic with the charming smile that could make almost any girl melt. His extremely short career of a heartbreaker was put to a stop when he fell in love with Lily Evans in the middle of his third year. He was an eccentrically smart student despite what rumors said.

She, on the other hand, loved Quidditch all the same as he did but just had never gathered enough courage of actually getting on a broom to try a sport that she loved all so much. She had never been out with a guy before, always declining those very few that asked her for a date. Fearing she would lose her best friend Desiree White, she wasn’t in any rush to start dating. She had never been in love with anyone; she never believed in it in the first place. She was just as top notch as Lily Evans in the academic department, which was saying something because Lily was the smartest girl in her year even though Lily wasn’t in Ravenclaw.

They were just two very different people on two very different missions. It just so happened to be fate that they some how intercrossed on their missions. Their different lives would just bring them closer and closer.

So, M&Ms. That extraordinary candy. The candy that started the legend of James Potter and Taranym Ashcraft. Candy. Simple, but the delicate simplicity of some things is just what make them so magical. Just look at the headstrong Gryffindor and the imaginative Ravenclaw. M&Ms. That’s how it all began; that and that faithful day in Defense Against The Dark Arts class…

A/N: Well, that was the first chapter. Kind of different from what I usually write (very...random in other words). Just so you know: The OC’s name is pronounced Tar-a-num but it’s spelled with a “y” instead of a “u”.

EDIT: I have done research and M&Ms were around in the Marauders era. Somebody asked me if they were and they were. Sorry, I just had to add that in here. And, again, I don't have a clue as to when this will be updated. I'm working on the second chapter most likely as you read this. Hopefully, it'll be soon *grins* Thanks for reading!
