A/N - This chapter is only short but it's also only the opener. Testing the waters if you will. To anyone who doesn't know, this is the prequel for Ravenclaw Rackteers, and to anyone who already read this on Crash Mind it might seem like deja vu.  This chapter was co-writen with my delightful sister Katiebells and I am dedicating the entire story to Elle Silver since it was her suggestion that I write it XD. Enjoy!

'...he pulled his hammer out and approached her...'
Edna was blushing, her bi-daily foray into the forbidden romance section of the Hogwarts library had suddenly become very...enlightening.

'"Charles" she cried breathlessly, "Wha-what are going to do with that?" she was stammering "It-it is not right."
Edna looked around making sure she was well hidden, even in her secret hiding spot.

'"I told you before my lady, I'm gonna give it a good seeing to, this things so hard it could knock a square into that hole."

'
Merlin!' Edna thought, this is more risqué than usual, she brushed the hair off the back of her neck, her skin heated and she loosened her collar.

'"Charles,' she continued 'I'm sure Henry could do that for you when he returns, there's no need to go to all the trouble"'
"My Goodness, she has two men on the go!" Edna gasped, "Some women have all the luck,"

'"Henry's not strong enough"'
Edna was breathing heavily.

'"He's not man enough'"
Edna's hands were clammy.

'"You need an experienced craftsman to fix that door for you, it's solid oak, at least a few centuries old.'"
Wait, what?
Edna looked at the front cover of the book and at the title she had previously ignored. 'Charles Wainthrop Autobiography; My Years as a Skilled Craftsman, muggle ways in a wizarding world'.

Oh, Edna thought, he really was just talking about a hammer and fixing her door. But muggle ways in a wizarding world? Unorthodox. I wonder how this turns out.

Reading the first few chapters did prove to be quite interesting and Edna decided to borrow the book from the library but for later, she had already wasted enough time on Charles Wainthrop’s Hammer and she had homework to complete, she was hoping to have finished her Divination essay by dinner so she could debate her findings with the rest of the Ravenclaw Homework and Extra Studies Group.

Honestly, she thought shaking her head, sometimes it seems as if the rest of RHAESG don't know the difference between Sortilege and Augury when it comes to divination. But Edna was confident in her ability to change that.

Climbing out from behind the bookcase that stood in front of a roomy alcove nestled in the back wall of the Library, Edna pondered her good luck in finding this...secret hiding place. A juevenile description of the alcove but adequate. Her alcove had yet to be discovered by anybody else in her seven years at Hogwarts, and despite her complete trust in her friends, she hadn't told them about the alcove either.

Speaking of her friends, she had promised to meet up with them before dinner. Looking at her half completed essay, she resigned herself to not finishing it before dinner.

Oh well, I might not even go to tonight’s meeting. Edna thought rebelliously.

She began putting her things into her bag, glancing down at the romance books before.

If only life could be more like these books, she thought, if some dark handsome stranger appeared before her and told her she had to go with him to the Homework club, so he could announce to everyone they were to be wed upon the eve. Well, then she would go.
Waiting patiently for a few minutes, no such stranger appeared.

Her friends were sitting on one of the benches in the courtyard. Pausing under one of the arches leading outside, she watched the two of them trying to guess what they were talking about.

Amanda was sitting on the bench facing the empty courtyard, her hands running through her long blonde hair, turning every now and again to ask the short, plump witch next to her something. Nadia, was the complete opposite to the Ravenclaw beauty, Nadia's sweet-nature and raven black hair a contrast to the cool beauty of Amanda, it was a long-running joke throughout Ravenclaw that had Amanda not been a muggle-born she would have easily made it into Slytherin house, but the Ravenclaws had utilised some of Amanda's unsavoury qualities. Her quick wit and scathing retorts had often been used to disarm those that saw Ravenclaw's as swot's lacking in personality, Amanda was the 'Ravenclaw Assasin', for a price she would come to the aid of anyone facing hassle because of the heightened intelligence only a Ravenclaw could possess.

Yet despite Amanda's aloft personality, Edna had always fantasised that one day Amanda herself would be disarmed by love. A funny man would be perfect for Amanda, someone to compliment her personality, someone who was good-looking in a boy-next door sort of way. Amanda was beautiful she might not be able to handle the ego of a handsome man, yet he would love her golden hair, and pale blue eyes.

Looking at her friends again, Edna's imagination began to go wild.

Why was Amanda running her hands through her hair, she hates to look anything but perfect in public. Maybe she's nervous, maybe she's fallen in love, finally found her perfect match, her soulmate, her....Roger. Yes! Roger, Amanda and Roger have fallen in love.

Edna made her way over to her friends intent on congratulating Amanda on her engagement to Roger, but Amanda caught sight of Edna before she reached them.

'Edna, do you think I could get away with a slightly darker hair colour?' Amanda called out.

'What! But what about Roger he loves your hair?' Edna was concerned now, reaching her friends they gazed up at her with puzzled expression.

'Erm..Who?' Amanda questioned.

There is no Roger, you made him up.

'Oh yeah.' Edna shook her head, 'It's alright, there's no Roger.'

'I know!' Amanda's hair was once again back in place, but her friend now held an agitated expression.

'So what's the problem? No, I don't think you could get away with a darker colour, your skin's too pale.' Edna sat down, squeezing between Amanda and Nadia.

'What just happened?' Nadia, unlike Amanda who just shook off Edna's outburst, was still looking confused.

'Nothing Nads, Edna’s just having one of her moments, shall we go to dinner?' Amanda stood, confident her friends would follow and walked off.
Nadia spared a glance at Edna, and slowly followed, looking round the courtyard as if to catch a glimpse of Edna's mysterious Roger.

Edna sighed; this was what her father warned her about. He hated Edna's obsession with 'those trashy, muggle, romance books' he caught her reading them one day during Summer holidays, and the lecture that followed led Edna to just hide her secret hobby from him. Yet it seemed as if her father was right about one thing, the more she read her romance novels, the more her own life seemed boring and completely unadventurous, even her being a witch was nothing compared to the magic Alicia felt whilst being in Damien's arms in her latest novel.

Making her way to the great hall, Edna pondered how to resolve this. She was a Ravenclaw, able to complete any challenge, decipher any code, she should know a dozen ways to make life more exciting. Sitting silently besides Amanda who had forgotten about her hair and was fervently arguing with Nadia about what Edna hoped was something more scholastic.

'...especially with his quidditch uniform on, it accentuates all his best features.'

Ooh boys, well Edna had to admit it was slightly more entertaining than hair.

What could make life more exciting? A new club, but a small one, big ones take too much organising, a small club for her and her friends, oooh, a secret club, devoted to...secrets! What. Devoted to...something exciting and challenging, like exciting, challenges…dares. A secret dares club, that dare each other to...not do homework ,no! That dare each other to...make trouble, like racketeers, only less criminal and more youthful mischievity. That's it! A secret society, devoted to pulling pranks or doing dares.

A secret society only for Ravenclaws.

Edna lifted her head, a smile playing around her lips, she grabbed Amanda's arm, successfully getting her attention.

'Edna what?'

'Tell Nadia that after dinner we are to have a meeting upstairs in the bedroom.'

'Why, is this something to do with the Homework club?' Amanda was worried, despite her Slytherin qualities she was still a Ravenclaw at heart, and the Homework club was sacred amongst the housemates, 'Wait..' Amanda lowered her voice to a whisper, 'Is this about Roger?'

'No' but Edna would go no further.

Tonight would be the first official meeting of...she searched for a suitable name.

The Ravenclaw Dares Club, The Pranks People, The club devoted to non-homework related challenges, no...

The Ravenclaw Racketeers!
