A/N: This is not my best chapter. It is sort of just to explain a few things. Next chapter will be better! I promise!

Chapter Three: Changing

Hermione paced her room later that night, thinking about her and Fred. She couldn’t deny that she did have feelings for him. But she couldn’t get that night that her parents died out of her head. Voldemort had told her that he had killed her parents because of her. What if he saw how happy Fred made her? Would he try to kill him, too? Hermione couldn’t bare thinking that something like that could happen. She refused to let anything like that happened. Even if that meant telling Fred that they couldn’t work out.

The next morning Hermione waited for Fred in the sitting room. It was around eleven before he ever came out. He smiled and tried to greet her with a kiss. She reluctantly turned her head. He looked at her confused, taking a seat next to her on the couch.

“Is something wrong?” He requested, running a hand over her hair. Hermione let out a deep sigh as she turned toward him.

“Fred… we can’t do this. I can’t do this.”

“Do what?” He asked.

“Us,” Hermione replied. “You are great, don’t get me wrong, but I just can’t. I’m not ready for a boyfriend right now. With my parents dying and school starting back tomorrow. I just can’t take this right now.”

Fred wasn’t looking at her. He seemed quiet interested in the floor tiles. He didn’t look happy. Not one bit.

“So that is it? You are just going to leave it like that?” He didn’t look up once and his tone was harsh. Hermione moved back a little, not for sure what he might do.

“Fred, this isn’t meant to hurt you…” Hermione placed a hand on his arm, trying to help. He jerked away and began to shake his head.

“Yes, you did Hermione!’ He nearly yelled, standing up. He ran a hand through his hair. “You wouldn’t be doing it if you didn’t!”

Fred didn’t even give Hermione another chance to talk. He just stormed out, slamming the door hard behind him. This made a very sleepy George stagger out of his room.

“What the hell is going on out here?” He demanded, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes.

“Nothing,” Hermione replied, tears streaking her face. George saw this and immediately took a seat beside her.

“What’s wrong?” He questioned. “Is it your parents…”

“No,” Hermione shook her head. She took a deep breath and told George the events of the past two days. When she was done he had a look of astonishment on his face.

“So you and Fred?”

“Mhmm…” Hermione nodded. “But I never meant to hurt him, George. I just don’t want to get close to anyone just incase Voldemort wants to strike again.”

“I understand,” George answered. “Too bad Fred doesn’t.”

“Yeah…”

“Hey, what about Harry and Ron. You are close to them…” Hermione could tell George really wasn’t trying to make her feel worse, but he was doing a good job at it anyway.

She hadn’t even thought of Harry and Ron. What was she going to do? She couldn’t put them in any more danger than they already were. Especially Harry.

Hermione got up and walked out without another word to him. She needed time to think. To clear her had of everything that had happened in the past week.

Hermione roamed the streets of Diagon Ally for over an hour, just wondering what she was going to do. She refused to put anymore of her loved ones in danger, but they weren’t going to leave her alone…

“Unless I make them want to…” Hermione whispered to herself as a plan began to formulate in her head. She checked her watch to see it was only a little after two. She had plenty of time to do everything before tomorrow. She had to hurry though.

Hermione began to look for a potions shop after stopping at Gringotts. When she found one, she hurried in. She had no time to waste. She still had to get to the muggle world.

“Good afternoon,” the man behind the counter greeted. He moved out and walked over to her. “Is there anything I can do for you?”

“Um…” Hermione bit her lip and looked around. “Yes, actually, there is. I need some potions.”

“You came to the right place…” the man said in a rather smartass tone. “What can I get you?”

“A hair growing potions, just one of those. A friz no more. I will need several of those. “ Hermione explained to the man and he nodded, going right to find them. Hermione began to roam the shop while he was gone.

“Here you are ma’am.” The man handed her the potions in a brown bag. Hermione smiled and handed him the money.

“Thank you,” she smiled as she walked out.

Okay, on to the muggle world…

“Excuse me, miss,” a old lady said to Hermione. She turned to look at her. She was behind a table. Hermione soon realized she was selling something. To humor her, she smiled. “You look like a young lady with self esteem problems.”

“Umm…” Hermione wasn’t for sure what to make of that. “Excuse me?”

“Do I have just the thing for you.” The old lady held out a bottle to Hermione. She took it, examining it. Boost. Boost your self-esteem for a week with just a tea spoon. Not tested.

Hermione laughed a little. Who would actually want this… but then again… it would help with her plan. She bit her lip, looking the bottle over again.

“I’ll five,” she heard her voice say. She was a little surprised by this, but didn’t really have a choice.

Her next stop would take a lot longer than that had. The muggle world.

She went into the bathroom at the hair salon and applied the un-friz and growth potion to her hair. She watched as it magically straightened and grew. She turned to look at it and he reached to the middle of her back. She smiled at her work, before putting the potions back into her new purse and walking back out.

“Miss Granger?” A woman asked and Hermione smiled to show it was her. “Franzueia will see you now.” The woman showed Hermione back to a chair with a mirror and hair products.

About five minutes later, a rather gay looking gay swooped in.

“Hello,” he cooed as he walked up behind her. She looked at him through the mirrior. “What can I do for you today?”

“Ummm… about an inch off and pink highlights.” Hermione replied, biting her lip. This was very extreme for a girl like her.

She spent a little over an hour there and then made her way to a local mall. The time was pushing on six o’clock and Hermione hadn’t even gotten half the things she wanted to do done.

She went to the make-up show first. She got make-up and books that had tips and suggestions. After that she made her way to the clothes. Yes, she had to wear a uniform at Hogwarts, but she still could change when classes were over or on the weekends. She was thankful that she got so much money in her parents’ will.

As she walked out of Hollister, it was eight o’clock. She had to get back home and pack! She rushed out of the mall and back to Diagon Ally and up to Fred and George’s flat.

Fred was sitting in the living room, but she didn’t notice. She was in to big of a hurry.

She pulled out her trunk from under her bed and began to throw things in it. Viles, books, and robes flew around the room.

“Hermione…” Fred trailed off as he entered the room. Hermione didn’t stop what she was doing. “Ple…what did you do to your hair?”

“I died it.” Hermione sighed, as if she were bored of him. She closed her trunk, finished with her packing. She went over and sat on the bed, looking at him.

“I talked to George.”

“Oh really? What did he have to say?” Hermione acted as if she didn’t already know.

“He told me about your conversation with him.” Fred replied, walking over and sitting beside her. “I can take care of myself. Don’t feel that you can’t be with me, because you can. You aren’t putting me in anymore danger than I am already.”

“Fred, that had nothing to do with you.” Hermione lied. “Please leave my room. I have a train to catch in the morning. So, I need sleep. Get out.”

Fred sat there for a minute and Hermione gave annoyed sigh, as if telling him to get out again. She didn’t know why she was being so mean, but she knew it had to be this way. It just had to be. Her plan couldn’t work if it didn’t.

A/N: Again, I’ll say, I don’t like this chapter, so it is okay if you don’t. It is like the glue to the next chapter, which I promise will be better than this one. Please review!
