"What a rock!" Niki exclaimed after Lily showed her friends her engagement ring at breakfast.

"I know, it's beautiful. But the ring doesn't matter. I would have been happy with a string tied around my finger," Lily said while James had her wrapped in his arms.

"Have you guys set a date?" Shay asked.

"We're thinking sometime next year. We'll be done with training for you-know-what and I'll hopefully be an auror be then," James said.

"I still can’t believe it. I always said the day this happened I'd start growing flowers out of my ass," Sirius said.

"That's a nice mental image," Shay said.

"Hey, do you know what tomorrow is?" James asked Shay.

"Yes. How is Jason doing?" Shay sadly asked about the 5th year that replaced her on the quidditch team.

"Pretty good. It's a good thing we play Hufflepuff on his first game. You're going to be there, right?" James asked.

"Of course. I told you I'd be at every game. I'm just going to have a great time explaining to everyone why I'm not playing."

"Ladies and gentlemen, HUFFLEPUFF!" the students heard and a roar erupted.

It was mainly from Hufflepuff and Slytherin.

"Keeper Justin Moorland, seeker Jessica Veeley, chasers Michael Tans, Henry Welch, and Tyler Goodson, and beaters Jude Johnstone and Captain Seamus O'Donnell!" the announcer said and the crowd roared again.

"Now introducing, GRYFFINDOR! Keeper Brian Wood, seeker Billy Sanders, beaters Sirius Black and Jason Bell, and chasers Natasha Johnson, Trisha Warner, and Captain James Potter! With the sudden departure of veteran beater Calhoun, Gryffindor is becoming a very green team. Their championship hopes may not be so big anymore," the announcer said while Shay sank in her seat a little.

Then the whistle blew and the game started.

"Hufflepuff has the quaffle. Goodson to Tans. Tans dodges a bludger sent by Black. Tans to Welch and Welch scores!"

Shay knew James would be swearing like a sailor because of how Hufflepuff scored so easily.

"Come on Gryffindor! Get it together!" Shay yelled as her and the others waved their red and gold flags.

"Potter with the quaffle. He's going full speed down the field. He's going to score! NO! That's a foul against Hufflepuff!"

One of the Hufflepuff chasers tried to kick James off his broom, which almost sent him plummeting to the ground. James made his goal with ease and the game was back on.

"I really hope we win. James will be destroyed if we don't," Lily said.

Shay felt guiltier by the second. They all jumped up when Gryffindor scored again.

"Hey Shay!" she heard someone yell.

"Hey Marlene," she said as Marlene sat next to her.

"What the hell are you doing here?" Marlene asked.

"What are you talking about?" Shay asked.

"Why aren't you out there playing?"

"Yea, everyone is dying to know," Shay heard from behind her.

She hadn't seen Regulus, who was with Avery and Wilkes.

"Hello boys. Douche bags sit over there," Shay said and pointed to the other Slytherins.

"Come on, just answer McKinnon's question. I promise I won't listen," Regulus said with a smile.

Shay gave him a dirty look and then turned back to Marlene.

"We'll talk after the game," Shay said and then quickly stood when she saw Billy dive.

"He's seen it!" Peter yelled.

Billy reached out his arm and snatched the snitch out of the other seeker's path.

"The snitch is caught! Gryffindor wins!"

After some cheering and celebrating, Shay turned to Marlene.

"Let's go talk."

But Shay didn't see that she had someone following her that definitely wanted to hear what she had to say.

Shay and Marlene quickly walked into the castle and Shay pulled her behind a tapestry.

"So what's going on?" Marlene asked.

"You can’g tell anybody this," Shay said.
“I promise. Cross my heart,” Marlene said and drew a cross over her heart with her finger.
“I’m pregnant,” Shay said and waited for Marlene’s reaction.

"You're kidding me."

"Nope. I’m about three months along."

"Wow Shay. Is Sirius the father?"

"Yes and he couldn't be happier."

"Are you happy?" Marlene asked.

"Yea, of course I am. It's just days like these when I wish I wasn't. It was so tempting to jump on a broom," Shay said with a laugh.

"Are you planning on telling everyone else?"

"Yea. James and Sirius are planning another party. I'll tell them then."

"Ok, wow, that definitely is a good reason to quit playing quidditch. I have to go meet Benjy, so take it easy," Marlene said.

"I heard you and Fenwick finally got together. He finally got to his senses," Shay said and Marlene blushed.

"I'll talk to you later," Marlene said and they went their separate ways.

Shay was going to go celebrate with her former teammates, when someone grabbed her arm and pulled her into an empty classroom.

"So when is the baby due?" Regulus asked.

"What are you talking about?" Shay asked.

"You should take a look around before you tell a secret like that."

"Regulus, if you tell anyone, I'll…"

"What? Have your friend beat me up again? I'm not exactly afraid of you, but I do want something."

"Talk to Courtlyn."

"I have nothing to say to that bitch. Go ahead and tell all the people you want."

"Come on Shay. You don't even have to be civil. Just acknowledge her."

"Why? So she can have my baby killed too?"

"She had nothing to do with Damien's death. She can't control who kills who," Regulus said.

"But she can control who she becomes. You all can."

"We have different beliefs."

"Yea, you believe in killing people," Shay said and turned to leave.

Regulus grabbed her arm and yanked her back around.

"Don't touch me asshole."

"Don't turn away when I'm talking to you, you stupid bitch."

Regulus and Shay gave each other ice-cold stares.

"Tell all the people you want, I don't care, but if anything happens to my baby, it will be on you. Unfortunately, the baby has you as an uncle, your own flesh and blood. But I guess family doesn't matter to you because I've seen the way you treated Sirius."

"Boo fucking hoo. He deserved it. It was his decision to go against every belief my family has," Regulus said, his anger rising with every word.

"He deserved it? Did he deserve to be locked in the attic and starved every summer? Did he deserve to be a target for you to practice slashing charms on? Or how about me, did I deserve what I got? The only time my dad acknowledged me was when he'd beat me with a belt. I can show you the scars on my back sometime. And when I was six, my mom found a new hobby and would put her cigarettes out on my arms and legs. She'd laugh and tell me to shut up when I cried. Do you think a little kid deserves that?" Shay asked and showed Regulus the burn marks on her arm.

"What is going on here?" Professor McGonagall asked from the doorway.

"We're just having a conversation Professor," Shay said and pulled her sleeve back down.

"I suggest you continue this conversation another time and go back to you common rooms before I take points," McGonagall said with a stern look.

"Remember what I said," Shay whispered to Regulus before she walked out of the room.
