"Today I want to see how well you guys can duel," Professor Donaldson said.

"We are going to have a tournament. You guys will be paired up and each winner will advance to the next round until there are two standing. The winner of the final duel will be exempt from our next test."

Shay was excited. Dueling had always been one of her specialties. She had a way of watching people and telling what they were going to do next. It was almost as if she could read their mind and know the spell they were going to cast before they even did it.

"Ok let's have Potter and Warner, Kane and Meadows, Lupin and Goyle, Pettigrew and Roberts, Garrison and Black, and Calhoun and Zello."

Shay had gone through the tournament with ease. She was in the final duel with whom else but Sirius. Shay was in a focused state, not taking an eye off Sirius.
Sirius stood in one place and stared at Shay. Shay eased up and gave a glare to Sirius.

"I'm not going to duel with you," Sirius said.

"What?" Shay asked confused.

"I don't want to duel with you."

"Why not?"

"Because you already won. Your plan worked. You made me jealous. I feel absolutely horrible, and I'm not going to fight with you anymore. I'm going to be patient and wait for you to forgive me and when that happens, I'm going to win you back, and hopefully we can be together again," Sirius said.

Shay didn’t respond. She was shocked at Sirius’s maturity and wanted to tell him all was forgiven. However, she was way too stubborn to bend for him. So she just stared at him, dumbfounded.

Sirius disappeared after DADA. Shay thought about what Sirius had said all day and felt really bad for treating him that terrible. She really wanted to talk to him but she didn't know where he was. She went to the common room after classes and found Sirius in there.

"Hey, can we talk?" Shay asked.

"Yea sit down," Sirius said motioning to the seat next to him.

"I just want to say sor…"

"No don't. I want to apologize for my behavior. I've been acting so stupid. You don't deserve it with everything that's going on."

"Sirius, it's ok. I wasn't mad about what you said last night, just more disappointed. I didn't expect you to say something like that."

"You know I didn’t mean it. I was upset and it just kind of came out. I know it was a low blow. I wouldn't want anybody to ever say that to me. And I know that if they did you would have my back. Shay, you're my best friend. And I can’t help but feel that I let you down."

"Well if we are best friends then let's start acting like it again. I'm sick and tired of fighting with you."

"Me too. But yesterday when you spent it with Benjy and I saw him kiss you, I realized that you weren't with me anymore. You know how I get when I get jealous," Sirius said with a small smile.

"Sirius, the thing is I liked being your girlfriend. It was great. But I love being you friend. I would choose that over anything," Shay said and put a reassuring hand on his knee.

"Shay, I love being your friend too, but I've always had these extra feelings for you. I want to be more than just friends," Sirius said.

Shay gave him an apologetic look and put his hand in hers.

"Sirius, I know. I have the same feelings, but I need time to think about this. I want to make sure it's right before we take another step. I don’t want to hurt you again and I hope you don’t want to hurt me."

“The last thing I want to do is hurt you,” Sirius said.
“Then you’ll do this for me and give me time. That’s all I ever asked for was time,” Shay said quietly.

"I have something that may help you make your decision,” Sirius said and leaned in and kissed Shay.

Shay's eyes went wide with shock and she froze up. After a few seconds, she finally pulled away.

"Sirius, that's not going to solve anything, it may just make things worse. I…I'm sorry but I have to go meet Benjy."

Sirius watched Shay walk out.

"Well that didn't go as planned," Sirius, who had never gotten a bad reaction from a kiss, said to himself.

"Where's James, I'm bored."

Sirius walked up to the boys' dormitory and pushed open the door.

"James let's go do some…whoa!"

Sirius looked over and saw Remus and Niki in bed together and they weren't sleeping.

"Merlin’s abnormally long beard you two. Put a sign on the door or something."

"Remus I told you to lock the door!" Niki screeched and covered her head with a blanket.

"Sirius, get out!" Remus yelled.

"Ok but have you seen James?" Sirius asked.

"He's in the library with Lily and Peter. Now get out!"

"Yea, yea I'm going. Uh, good luck and have fun."

"James will you pay attention! How am I supposed to have a relationship with someone who has the attention span of a goldfish? You should try being a little more like Peter, he actually tries to learn," Lily said in a loud whisper.

"So what if Peter tries. I don't have to; I was born with all this knowledge. My grades are just about as good as yours and I rarely do anything," James said leaning back in his chair.

"James Potter, your head got an inch bigger with every word that just came out of your mouth."

James gave her a cocky smile when he felt something hit the bottom of his chair.

BANG! James fell flat on his back and some suppressed laughter followed. Even Lily got a kick out of it.

"Damn it Sirius! That hurt."

"Yea but your pain brings me joy. I'm bored, let's go do something."

"Ok," James said standing up.

"Sit down now," Lily said in a low growl.

"Or not," James said sitting down disappointed.

"Sirius can't you go bug someone else. We are trying to study."

"Well, Remus and Niki are 'busy'. I'll just tell you to knock on the door before you go into the boys' dormitory. And unfortunately Shay is somewhere with Benjy."

"If you're that desperate, you can study with us," Lily said.

"Why would I want to do that?" Sirius asked disgusted.

"It’s what normal students do to prepare for classes, you know the things you go to during the week, and you learn things from these people called professors," Lily said while reading her book.

"Your sarcasm scares me but yet it's oddly attractive. You should be like that more often," Sirius said with a wink.

James picked up a book and hit Sirius in the back of the head with it.

"Cool it dog boy," James said with a threatening glare.

"Ok, I guess I'll read this book then," Sirius said grabbing the book.

They all sat there for a while in complete silence. Then the fidgeting began.

"I'm bored," Sirius said loudly.

All three of them pointed toward the door.

"Get out."

"Fine."

Sirius stepped out of the library.

"Hi Sirius," came from about 10 girls in unison.

"Oh crap. The stalkers."

"Sorry that I'm late Benjy. I was just…" Shay said but was cut off by Benjy lips crashing into hers.

She was taken aback and startled. After a semi-long and powerful kiss, Benjy broke away.

"Shay, I have to tell you something."
