There's two things I know for sure
She was sent here from heaven, and she's Daddy's little girl.
As I drop to my knees by her bed at night
She talks to Jesus and I close my eyes
And I thank God for all of the joy in my life, oh but most of all...

James silently watched his baby girl standing in front of him. Her natural beauty bringing out the excellence in the pearly white dress that hung over her petite form. Beside her was a tall man, flying over Kira Potter’s head by about half a foot. His eyes were sparkling blue and the couple looked as if they had never been as happy as they were at that moment.

Out in the crowd gathered so lovingly around, sat his gorgeous wife, Lily sitting besides his two best friends, Sirius Black and Remus Lupin. Close to him was his first son, Harry, standing as best man, looking like he might be just as proud as James himself. His daughter-in-law along with Hermione was standing as maids of honor and Harry and Ginny’s daughter was the flower girl, now standing as close to her mother as she could.

For butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer
Sticking little white flowers all up in her hair
Walk beside the pony Daddy, it's my first ride
I know the cake looks funny Daddy, but I sure tried
Oh with all that I've done wrong, I must of done something right
To deserve a hug every morning, and butterfly kisses at night.

James could see the happiness in his daughter’s eyes, the pure innocence held beneath them sparkling with tears. As the priest began the ceremony James couldn’t help but think of the many things that were over in his life. So many wonderful memories gone. Now they would be starting new ones.

The ceremony seemed to fly by, James not at all ready for his daughter’s promise and when the words “I do,” sang from her mouth, his heart fluttered to the top of his chest. The ring slipped gracefully onto her finger was the biggest diamond he had ever seen, even bigger than Lily bore proudly on her finger.

Tears were streaming down his cheek so fast, he hadn’t even noticed. That was his baby girl, his last child, before him, giving herself to another man. He couldn’t believe what was happening. All the lights around him began to whirl and he began to feel dizzy but one thing stopped him from falling. Right before the newly wedded couple ran back down the aisle from which they had just minutes ago came up as free men, Kira looked at James with her big hazel eyes. Inconspicuous to the crowd now clapping and cheering appropriately, James saw the most beautiful words form on her lips.

“I love you, Daddy.”

Sweet sixteen today
She's looking like her Mama, a little more everyday.
One part woman, the other part girl
To perfume and makeup, from ribbons and curls.
Trying her wings out in a great big world, but I remember...

In the reception hall, James sat aside from the rest of the celebration, watching all the festivities happening. On the other side of the room, he saw Ginny and Harry desperately trying to get some type of liquid without a lid into their daughter’s mouth. They were defeated when a bright red liquid came pouring out of the cup and onto their daughter’s white dress.

A memory flooded back to James, one that was even humiliating to tell his friends. It was of when Kira had first reached her ultimate challenge of puberty, getting her period.

James looked down at his copy of the Daily Prophet, reading the top headline and then throwing it aside casually. Picking up his fork, he began to pick at his breakfast, not exactly hungry for a strange reason. Lily has already left for St. Mungo’s the place she worked. Harry was outside on his broom, practicing for his captain spot on the Gryffindor Quidditch team. Kira was upstairs, taking a shower as Ginny Weasley and Hermione Granger, her two best friends were coming over to have a slumber party. James still wasn’t used to the fact of how loud girls could be. He always thought at girl parties all they did was sit around and gossip. He had found out that idea was false a few years back.

Getting up and cleaning his dish with his wand before putting it back in the cupboard, James decided he would go outside to give Harry a few tips. He was just about to walk out the door when he heard his daughter’s bedroom door open.

“Is mum still home?” she called down the stairs, a note of panic (or was it excitement?) in her voice.

“No,” James called back up. “She left about ten minutes ago. What’s wrong?”

“Nothing,” Kira yelled. “I just need mum!”

“What about me? Am I not good enough for my little girl anymore?” James asked teasingly.

You know how much I love you Daddy, but if you don't mind
I'm only gonna kiss you on the cheek this time.
With all that I've done wrong, I must of done something right
To deserve her love every morning, and butterfly kisses at night.

As James walked backwards towards the stairs, he heard his daughter’s door slam shut and the lock turn. That worried James to no end so he quickly stepped up the stairs and over to Kira’s room, jiggling the doorknob a little.

“Open up!” he said forcefully. “I’ll unlock it with my wand!” he threatened after he heard no movement to actually open the door.

“No!” Kira yelled. “I - I - I’m not dressed!”

James stopped trying to force the door open. “Well, get dressed and hurry up. Otherwise, your friends aren’t coming over.” James hated to do that to his daughter, but he had no other choice. It was either she told him what was wrong or they weren’t going to do anything until that moment came.

“I just want mum!” Kira could be heard crying now. “Not you, Mum!”

“Fine!” James yelled. He went over to the fireplace, sat on his two knees and flooed his head over to the private fireplace at St. Mungo’s. “I need Lily Potter,” he said when the receptionist asked what he wanted.

“Just a minute, she’s with a patient.”

James waited impatiently while his wife finished up. She came rushing over to the mantle when she saw his head floating there. “What happened?”

“Kira decided to lock herself in her room and won’t come out for anybody but you!” James said exasperated.

“I’ll be right there, let me just tell Margaret that I’m leaving.” Lily went away and James pulled his head back, closing his eyes until he felt his head securely back on his body. It took a couple seconds before Lily apparated into the room, but when she did, she rushed to her daughter’s room without a second glance at James.

“Hunny?” she asked, knocking softly on the door. They soon heard the lock turn and Kira let in her mother, leaving James out in the hall, wondering what could possibly be going on.

It took a few minutes, but Lily soon came back out, smiling happily. “She got her first period is all. I’m going to go back to work.”

James stared incredulously in the room his daughter claimed. Kira was now settling happily with a hair-dryer to get ready for her friends. Girls…

All the precious time, oh, like the wind the years go by.
Precious butterfly, spread your wings and fly.

James came back to the present, smiling fondly at the memory. He recalled being so confused that day. No wonder, he never had to go through something that dramatic when he was teen.

Just then, Remus and Sirius came up to him and sat down.

“So, what does it feel like, being a free man again?” Sirius asked jokingly.

“I’m not that free am I? With Harry, Ginny and Amanda always coming over for dinner. Even then, you know how much of a priss Lily is when she gets mad.”

“Still, no parenting responsibilities anymore. They get to fend for themselves now.” Remus said.

“And if they ever come back, I’ll just say if Sirius could go off on his own with no money, then you can to!” James laughed.

Sirius, huffed, though the memories of his family still lingered, he hadn’t seen them in ages. Now he had a beautiful girlfriend and they were going steady, unlike the rest of Sirius’ past relationships.

She'll change her name today, she'll make a promise, and I'll give her away.
Standing in the brideroom just staring at her
She asks me what I'm thinking, and I said I'm not sure.
I just feel like I'm losing my baby girl, and she leaned over...

James sat there with his best friends. Lily was over helping Harry and Ginny with Amanda, who was refusing to change out of the ruined dress she had on.

Kira walked up to them, smiling happily. With her dark air swaying back and forth and her sparkling hazel eyes, she was a spitting image of James except for a few of Lily’s facial features. She pranced right over to James and put her hand out. “It’s time for the first dance,” she said kindly. “And its my choice to be with my father.”

James felt tears come to his eyes, but he held them back because if he cried in front of his friends, they would never let him, live it down. So instead, he quietly got up with his daughter and walked into the middle of the dance floor. As if on cue, a slow song started playing. James pulled his daughter to him and said. “You know, you may be married, but you’ll always be my little girl.”

“Daddy’s little girl,” Kira repeated. “Just the way I would like to keep it.”

Kira rested her head on James’ chest as if she was still the small child she used to be and they continued to sway gracefully to the music, letting all the memories in them wrap them together as father and daughter. Like it always would be.

Gave me butterfly kisses with her Mama there
Sticking little white flowers all up in her hair.
Walk me down the aisle Daddy, it's just about time.
Does my wedding gown look pretty Daddy? Daddy, don't cry.
Oh, with all that I've done wrong, I must of done something right.

To deserve her love every morning, and butterfly kisses,
I couldn't ask God for more, than this is what love is.
I know I gotta let her go, but I'll always remember...
Every hug in the morning, and butterfly kisses.
