"Aw come one Evans, just one date!" James Potter yelled after the retreating figure of the girl of his dreams, Lily Evans. She whirled around, a look of deep disgust on her face. "I wouldn't go out with you if my life depended on it!" She shouted at him. James sighed and went to find his friends.

He found them in the common room, playing Exploding Snap. Sirius Black, his best friend, looked up as he entered the room. "Hey Prongs, where'ya been?" He asked. "Where's Wormtail? I thought he was with you." James shrugged. Remus Lupin, the third Marauder, noticed the look on his friends face and moved over so he could sit on the couch.

"You ran in to Lily didn't you?" Remus asked. James nodded sheepishly. "Don't worry, she can't say no to you for long." Sirius said encouragingly. "I mean, look at you. Your the second best looking guy in school." James looked at him questioningly. "Second?" He asked. Sirius nodded. "Next to me of course." He replied, smirking. Remus threw a pillow at him.

"I just don't understand why she still see's me as the same immature kid i was when we were eleven. I've changed since then haven't I?" James wondered. Sirius and Remus looked at each other, then looked away to smother their laughter. James looked around in confusion. "What? I haven't changed? At all?" He asked.

Remus turned back around. "It's not that. It's just that whenever you see Lily and you talk to her or anything, you are always joking around or hexing someone or playing a prank." He admitted, trying not to make eye contact with James.

Sirius nodded his head in agreement. "Maybe you should act real mature and try to not act up in class and stop hexing people to show her that you really have changed." He suggested. "Although it won't be as much fun pulling pranks without you there with me Prongs." He said affectionately.

James smiled in agreement. "Yea, that's a good idea Padfoot. Instead of cursing people for laughs, I'll just let them be." He added. Remus cleared his throat to get their attention. "What about Snivellus?" He asked, looking at each of them.

"Hmm. Good point Moony. Well, I guess I will just have to ignore him. Just until she falls head over heels in love with me of course." James said. Sirius gawked at him. "Your serious?" He asked astonished. James laughed. "Actually no, your Sirius remember?" He joked. But Sirius didn't laugh. Instead he looked horrified. "You are actually going to not hex Snape? For a girl?" He sounded hurt.

James sighed. "If it means showing Lily how much I care about her, then I am willing to try anything." Sirius and Remus looked at him, eyebrows raised.

"Alright Prongs, if thats what you want, then we'll help you." Remus said, poking Sirius with his elbow. He nodded quickly. "Yea mate, we'll do whatever if takes." He said.

The next day in Charms, Lily was sitting with her friends Dani, (who is a girl) and Stacey when James and his cronies swaggered in and immediately sat down next to her. She tried to pretend she didnt notice and continued her conversation with Dani but it became increasingly difficult to concentrate with James whispering in her ear.

"Evans, I need to talk to you." He kept repeating over and over again. She turned to face him and whispered furiously "What?!" He smiled and dropped a note into her lap. Lily glanced at Dani, who had a confused expression on her face.

Looking extremely wary, she held the note as far away from herself as she could, and opened it. After checking to be sure it wouldnt explode, she managed to read it. 'Lily, please meet me after dinner on the couch in front of the fire in the common room. Thanks, James.'

Lily glanced at him and was surprised to see that he was actually taking notes.
'Hmm, maybe he's not so bad after all.' She thought to herself. "Ms. Evans, could you please fill the class in on what is so admirable about Mr. Potter?" Proffesor Flitwick announced loudly, pulling Lily from her thoughts. She blushed furiously and noticed that the whole class was staring at her and James had a loopy smile on his face.

"Umm, no Sir, I was just..." her voice faltered, she couldn't think of a reasonable excuse. "Well don't let it happen again." He said and went back to the lesson.

Lily flipped the note to the back and wrote a few words and passed it back to James. When he read it his grin grew wider. 'I'll be there. But no pranks okay? Lily.' He winked at her and whispered something in Sirius' ear and they both started laughing. Lily narrowed her eyes suspiciously.

It wasn't until lunch that Lily had a chance to tell her friends about the note. When she did, Stacey's eyes grew wide. "Do you think he's planning something?" she whispered. Dani rolled her eyes. "Probably another one of his "romantic" ways to ask her out." She said. Lily blew a strand of fiery red hair out of her eyes. "I sure hope not. I don't know how much longer I can listen to him ask me without hexing him into next week!" She cried. Her friends laughed.

"That wouldnt be too nice, now would it Evans?" A voice said behind the girls. Lily turned around slowly. "Black, what are you doing here?" She asked, hatred dripping from her words. "I was just taking a stroll and I happened to overhear your conversation." He replied, smirking. "Yeah, eavesdropping is more like it." Lily shot back.

Sirius clutched a hand to his heart as if he had been mortally wounded. He started sinking down to the floor groaning. "Oh no, she...she....she insulted me!" He fell to the floor in a mock faint. There was laughter from behind him and Lily looked up and saw Potter stifling a laugh. When he saw Lily though, his expression turned absolutely serious and he blushed.  Her emerald eyes flashed dangerously.

She stood up right in front of Sirius. "Get out of my way Black!" She screamed and the Great Hall fell silent. Sirius stood up and looked Lily straight in the eye and said nothing. It was a staring contest, and the Hall began to chant the name of who each person wanted to win.

"Black! Evans! Black! Evans!" was heard throughout the Hall. Finally, Sirius swore loudly and began rubbing his now bloodshot eyes. Lily smirked and her friends followed her into the corridor, while the Great Hall erupted into cheers.

As James, and Sirius sat back down again, they were met by Remus, who had been watching from his seat and was trying to hold back laughter. Sirius shot him a death glare. "Sorry mate," He managed to gasp out. "But if you had seen the look on your face...." He trailed off, unable to hold his laughter in any longer.

Sirius stabbed at his steak and muttered darkly to James. "Why do you fancy her anyway Prongs? You can have any girl in the school. Why her?" James shook his head. "I don't know Padfoot. I honestly don't know." And he stared off into the distance, daydreaming about the day Lily Evans would become Lily Potter.
