Chapter 19: Marauder’s Revenge

Lily went down to the Great Hall for breakfast the next morning to find James already there. He was sitting in the middle of the Gryffindor table with Sirius, Remus and Peter and they seemed to be in the middle of a very important conversation because they were all leaning in together and whispering in hushed tones.

She made her way towards them smiling happily. She and James had talked last night and agreed to forget about what happened. When she reached the table she went to sit on James right but he stopped her.

“No Lils, don’t sit there,” he said putting out his arm to stop her from sitting.

“Why not?” she asked him confused.

“I think it would be…um…healthier, if you sat on his other side,” Sirius said with a smirk.

So Lily sat on James left side and looked at the boys who were all grinning widely. “Ok, what is going on? What are you up to?” she asked them. The Marauders continued to smile but were pretending to be innocent.

“What would we be doing?” Remus asked trying to conceal his grin.

“We are completely innocent!” James insisted trying really hard not to laugh.

“I am shocked you would even think we were up to something!” exclaimed Sirius.

“Absolutely nothing,” said Peter shaking with laughter.

Lily rolled her eyes. “Oh sure, I believe you. You all look completely innocent,” she said sarcastically.

The four boys burst out laughing as Jo and Alice came into the Great Hall and sat down with them.

“What is so funny?” Alice asked.

“That is what I am trying to find out,” Lily told them before turning to glare at James again. “Now tell me what the hell is going on!”

James just smiled innocently at her. “Nothing is going on. I would never lie to you Lilykins,”

Lily hit him over the head. “I just found so many things wrong with that statement,” she said. “One, I know damn well that you four are up to something, you always are. Two, you ARE lying to me. And three, DON’T CALL ME LILYKINS! It sounds so stupid,” she told him hitting him on the head again.

“No it doesn’t sound stupid, I think it sounds sweet,” James said with a smirk.

“And I think it would be sweet to hex you if you ever call me that again,” she said smiling at him. “So for the last time, what are you up to?”

“Just watch and learn Flower, watch and learn,” Sirius said. He had noticed who had just walked into the Hall and was making her way towards.

“Morning James,” said a voice behind them. Lily turned and saw Katie Chang standing behind them smiling happily. Lily’s face turned red and she clenched her fists in anger. “What the hell is SHE doing here?”

“Morning Katie,” said James with a smile as Katie sat down beside him. Lily’s mouth fell open in shock. She went to say something but Sirius kicked her under the table and gave her a look that told her to shut up. Lily shut her mouth but kept looking daggers at Chang who was looking at James in an adoring way and sitting too close to James for Lily’s liking.

“So James,” Katie said smiling at him. “Do you want to do something together later?” By the way she said ‘something’ Lily had a feeling she wanted to sneak off to an empty classroom. Lily was disgusted, but more by the fact that James was still smiling. “I can’t believe her! How dare she? And him! If he doesn’t wipe that stupid smile off his face I am going to painfully force it off,” Lily thought angrily. But then she noticed something strange going on with Chang and tried really hard to keep a straight face. Others in the Hall seemed to notice what was happening as they started to whisper and point at her but Chang didn’t notice because she was still talking to James.

“We could go for a walk around the lake?” she suggested when he didn’t give her any answer to her other questions.

James looked at her with his usual charming smile. “We could. Or we could sit here and look at the fascinating colours you are turning,” he said.

Katie looked completely confused. She looked at her robes to see they were changing colour. She jumped out of her seat with a shriek. At the minute her robes were a very bright yellow that could blind you, her hair had changed from a sleek black to a bright pink and her skin had turned red. She screamed again when she noticed that her robes were not the only things changing colour. Everyone in the Hall looked at her and burst out laughing.

Chang turned to James who was nearly falling off his seat. “James get this off me!” she shouted at him. James’ eyes were filled with tears of laughter.

“I’m afraid I can’t to that Chang. It is permanent!” he told her through fits of laughter. Katie screamed again and looked at her robes that were now violent shade of orange with different things written across them in green.

“Marauders Rule!”

“Chang Is A Loser!”

“Evans Is No. 1”

Lily looked at her crying with laughter. “This is perfect!” she thought. If there was one thing Katie Chang couldn’t stand it was being completely humiliated in front of the whole school, and this definitely qualified in that category. Katie always felt she had to look perfect and have everything she was wearing matching, and well, orange and pink? Lily couldn’t think of how James had come up with this plan, it wasn’t something he would normally do. The whole school was laughing at Katie who was standing in the middle of the Hall. She was trying to move but she couldn’t, something was stopping her.

“James, aren’t you going to do something?” she asked him angrily. She clearly couldn’t see ‘Marauders Strike Again!’ written on her back and thought someone else had done this. She definitely didn’t hear what James had told her earlier.

James looked up at her smiling and wiping his eyes that were still watering from laughing so much. “Why would I go through all the trouble of setting this up just to stop it?”

Katie looked at him outraged. “You mean YOU did this to me?” she shouted.

“Yep!” James said.

You should be honoured, you had all four Marauders pull a prank on you. That doesn’t happen to very many people. This is something you should remember forever!” Sirius said though he was still leaning on Remus for support after laughing so much.

“WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO ME?” she shouted at him, drawing even more attention to herself.

“It is quite simple actually. You see, I don’t like it when people sent my girlfriend threatening letters. And I REALLY don’t like it when someone kisses me trying to get me to break up with my girlfriend. So you see you did both of these things and well, we couldn’t let you get away with it,” James told her.

Katie turned to Lily glaring angrily at her. “This is all YOUR fault. I told you to leave him to me but you are too stupid to take a hint!” she shouted at angrily at Lily. Lily just looked back at her with equal hatred, but couldn’t help but laugh as Katie’s skin turned blue with pink spots. Katie looked at her hands and screamed again.

James stood up and glared fiercely at Katie. “Well let’s hope you take your warning more seriously then. You are never to come near us again and don’t even think of sending anything to Lily because you will regret it. This was only a little tester of what we could do to you. Understand?” he asked her.

Katie looked furious and tried to walk away but there was still something holding her in her place. “Why can’t I move?” she shouted.

“Because we are thoroughly enjoying watching this,” Sirius said grinning at her. The whole Hall began to laugh again as more words began to appear all over Katie’s robes.

‘James and Lily forever!’

‘Chang Is An Idiot!’

‘Sirius Rules!’

James turned back to look at Sirius. Sirius held his hands up in defence. “What? It's true!” They all laughed before looking at Chang again.

“How do I get this bloody curse off?” she yelled at James.

“I already told you, it is PERMANENT!” James said with a smirk.

“WHAT! You cannot be serious Potter?” she shouted at him.

“Of course he’s not,” said Sirius. Katie looked relieved. “I’m Sirius!” Lily laughed at the look on Katie’s face.

“Mr Potter? Mr Black? What is going on here?” said the voice of none other than Professor McGonnagall.

“Oh Professor, we are so glad you stopped by,” said James smiling at McGonnagall.

“And why would that be Mr Potter?”

“Well, we were wondering, what is the punishment for someone sending threatening letters to another student?” Sirius asked.

“What are you talking about Mr Black?” McGonnagall asked looking at Katie who’s hair was bright orange, her robes striped blue and green and her skin purple.

“You see Professor, since November Ms Chang here has been sending letters to Lily threatening her,” James explained.

“Is this true Ms Evans?” Professor McGonnagall asked Lily. She nodded and McGonnagall turned to Katie. “Well Ms Chang, we are going to talk to your Head of House about this. Sixty points from Ravenclaw and two months worth of detention for doing something as disgraceful as threatening another student. As for you four,” she said turning to the Marauders. “no matter what Ms Chang did there is no need to turn the colour of her hair, robes and skin a different colour. Twenty points from Gryffindor and a detention for each of you,” she told them though she was trying not to smile at the ‘Marauders Rule Hogwarts’ and ‘Evans, Queen of Hogwarts’ that was written on her robes.

The four boys looked delighted that they had gotten off so lightly. They had been expecting something a lot worse than that. Chang on the other hand look furious.

“Now Mr Potter, how do you reverse this spell?” McGonnagall asked.

“As I already told Chang, you can’t reverse it. There is no counter-curse,” James told them.

“Then what am I to do? Walk around with green skin for the rest of my life?” Katie shrieked.

“Actually, your skin is violet at the minute,” Sirius corrected, receiving a warning look from both Chang and McGonnagall.

“No, it wears off,” James told them.

“Eventually,” Sirius whispered to Lily.

“What do you mean Mr Black?” McGonnagall asked him sternly.

“It’s just, Chang here has to be nice to Lily for a whole day and apologise to her before it will wear off,” Sirius said with a smirk.

“WHAT!” Chang shouted.

“Ms Chang, you are to apologise to Ms Evans as it is and you should be nice to her anyway, she is your Head Girl after all. You should be respectful towards her. Now go and change your robes before your first class,” said McGonnagall before starting to leave.

“But Professor, what about my hair and face?” she asked looking at her yellow hair.

Professor McGonnagall turned to her hiding a smile. “Well it looks like you will have to deal with it for today Ms Chang,” she said before turning away and walking back to the staff table.

James removed the spell that was holding her in place and Katie stormed out of the Hall amid fresh peals of laughter fro the school as her back of her robes flashed up ‘All Hail James and Lily, King and Queen of Hogwarts!’

The group laughed and Sirius flicked his wand so that below the last statement appeared ‘And Sirius, Ruler of the Universe!’

The Hall applauded the friends as they left for their first class. Once they were outside and out of view of the rest of the school Lily turned to James and kissed him.

“That was brilliant James!” she laughed.

“Hey! It wasn’t all his idea. We helped!” Sirius said pretending to be offended.

“Of course you did. We are so proud of you,” said Jo sarcastically beside him.

“I don’t think Ms Katie Chang is going to be a problem for us any more,” Remus said with a smile.

“Oh, revenge is sweet,” James said.

The seven friends laughed again and walked out of the castle towards the green houses for Herbology.
