Out of the four of them, James seemed to be taking the news of Harry the hardest. But it wasn't really much of a surprise really about how he was taking it. It's not everyday you find out you have a son, especially when it hasn't happened yet.

They sat through lunch in complete silence, each one of them lost in thought. But the question that was going through everyone's mind was: Who's the mother?

Well, going through three of their minds anyways. James had already figured out who it was. A man doesn't adore a woman for years and not be able to see her eyes on another. But he was still in a major shock over the whole thing. He'd actually won her over....His eyes fell upon Lily, who was pushing her food around on her plate absently, and smiled. He'd actually done it....He had married Lily Evans, girl of his dreams, and they'd had a baby boy. It was enough to make his head spin.

"We should find out more about Harry," suggested Sirius suddenly, arousing everyone from their thoughts. "I mean, I know I'm not the only one that wants to find out about him. And what happened to the rest of us..." If James had a kid then the rest of them could have some pretty amazing futures too, right?

Remus and Lily nodded in agreement before all eyes turned on James, waiting for his response but none came. He was just sitting there, staring at his food with a small smile on his face.

Remus and Sirius exchanged glances and stood up, bringing Lily up as well. "We're gonna head out, Prongs," said Remus as he watched his friend for a moment. This was a pretty big thing to deal with. "We'll tell you if we come up with anything."

James nodded though he wasn't really paying attention. He had one thought on his mind now. He wanted to see Harry again. And the good thing was, he knew exactly where he was.

James left the Great Hall as soon as Sirius, Remus, and Lily were out of sight. He rushed past the many students that were just now getting to lunch, pushing them out of the way when needed. Although, he got shoved back half the time, that didn't slow him down in the slightest. His mind was set and there was nothing that could bring him down.

James finally arrived in front of the gargoyle that guarded Dumbledore's office. It took a while but he finally managed to guess the password....."Sugar quills." He couldn't help but smile as the gargoyle began to move. "Some things never change," he muttered as he finally made it to the top. He took a deep breath, running his hand through his hair out of nervousness, and knocked on the door.

But instead of waiting on someone to open the door like he had originally planned, James pushed it open and stepped inside. His eyes fell on Harry and he had pulled him into a hug a second later. He didn't care how this would look. This was HIS son!

Harry froze for a moment, sort of freaked about James hugging him. Then he patted him awkwardly on the back and shot a look at Ron and Hermione, that said quite clearly.....'HELP ME!'

Hermione glanced at Dumbledore, who had a twinkle in his blue eyes and a smile pulling on the corners of his mouth. She peeled her eyes off the Headmaster and strode over to Harry. "Er...Hart?" she said rather timidly, lightly pushing the two away from each other.

It took James a moment to figure out that Hermione was trying to talk to him. It was just....Harry, his and Lily's son....."Huh?" he said and snapped out of his thoughts before they went any deeper.

Before Hermione or Ron could comment on this very strange behavior, Dumbledore stood up. "Harry, Ron, Hermione, we're done here," he said, his eyes not leaving James. He was blushing like mad and staring at the ground. "We need a moment alone please. We'll finish this meeting later."

Neither Harry nor Hermione moved. Harry was still staring, wide-eyed at James and Hermione was scowling at Dumbledore, looking much put out at being unable to finish the meeting. So Ron, being the polite one that he is, nodded to Dumbledore, shot a skeptical look at James, and grabbed Harry and Hermione by the upper arm to drag them out of the office.

Dumbledore smiled and turned his attention back to James. "Have a seat, Mr. Potter," he said and pointed to an empty chair.

James nodded and took his seat, a silly smile on his face. He was in dreamland at the moment.

Dumbledore chuckled and began putting away some Order papers. "I see that you've found out about Harry, much sooner than I would have liked," he comment and gave another chuckle when James nodded dumbly. "Am I correct in assuming that the rest know as well?" Another nod. He sighed. "I really would rather that you hadn't found out, you know."

James nodded and finally came back to earth to stare at Dumbledore. He needed to confirm his thoughts. "He's Lily's, isn't he?" he asked, waiting for the answer though he already knew it.

Dumbledore sighed once more and nodded. He folded his hands and looked at James intently. "You must promise me, James," he started. "Do not tell Miss Evans, or Mr. Black or Mr. Lupin, of this. Everything must play out as it was meant to be. Lily must not feel like she was pressured into this because of this trip. It would not be right."

James nodded instantly. "Yes, sir. I hadn't planned on it actually. Because I want her to love me for me, not because she felt like she had to," he explained.

His words made Dumbledore smile once more. He'd noticed that he used 'love' and not 'like'. "I'm proud of you, James. Most would use something like this to their own advantage," he told him.

James nodded once more. "I know, sir," he assured.

"You may go now, James."

James smiled and stood up, nodding at Dumbledore before departing from his office.

Dumbledore leaned back in his chair and sighed. Things were not going right at all. He knew James would stay true to his word but that wasn't what worried him. It was what else they might learn about their future lives, or lack of for most of them. History must not be changed....
