Chapter 6
So, He

Malfoy spread the details about him from Hermione’s diary to all the seventh years, but changed some of it a little.

“Did you know that mudblood Granger absolutely loves me? She wants to make out with me every time she passes by me, but I don’t let her. So, she just ends up embarrassing herself in front of me,” Malfoy told everyone.

He was poured with questions like:

“Are you serious?”

“How do you know?”

He just kept on spreading lies about Hermione.

Hermione entered the Great Hall one day for lunch and didn’t hear the usual noisiness of the Great Hall. Instead, she heard many whispers.

‘Why is everyone whispering and staring at me?’ She asked herself. Hermione kept on walking to her usual seat, thinking of why they were whispering about her. She suddenly stopped walking when she was a step away from her seat next to Ginny. ‘Oh, no. Please no. He did NOT.’ She looked back at the Slytherin table at Malfoy and saw him smirking. She looked back at the Gryffindor table and sat down. ‘HE DID!’

“He told everyone!” Hermione whispered to Ginny.

“I know, but… changed it a little,” Ginny whispered back.

“What did he say?”

“He told everyone that you absolutely love him and you want to make out with him every time you pass by him,” Ginny explained.

Hermione’s eyes widened. “Ugh!! That bastard! Now, I really gotta get some revenge!”

“Hey, Granger,” Someone called from the Slytherin table.

She looked back.

The guy who called her name ran his fingers through his hair. “Wanna make out with me?” He asked jokingly, laughing hysterically afterwards and giving his friends a high five.

“Ugh!” Hermione turned back around. “You know what? All of a sudden, I’m just not hungry.” She pushed her plate forward, stood up, and started walking towards the door to go out of the Great Hall. Harry and Ron came in.

“Hey Hermione! What’s wrong?” Harry asked.

“Nothing, Harry,” Hermione answered. She just walked past them and out of the Great Hall.

“UGH!” she yelled. She leaned against a wall and slid down. She put her hands on her face and started crying. She realized that people would be coming out of the Great Hall soon because lunch is almost over. So, she stood up and walked to the Gryffindor common room and sat down on a couch by the fireplace. She took out her diary and wrote:

Dear Diary,

I hate Malfoy, I hate Malfoy, I HATE MALFOY! He read my diary and spread it to the whole school! He makes me so mad. He changed the details he read in my diary. He said that I absolutely love him and that I wanna make out with him whenever I walk past him. What kind of rubbish is that! He can get my diary now and spread rumors about me. I don’t care anymore. He’s so focused on his damned reputation. Ugh, he makes me so mad. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. He really hurt my feelings. I cried after I went out of the Great Hall. That was just too much humiliation. I can’t wait to go back home in two days and see all my muggle friends.

--I really hate Malfoy

She closed her diary and put it down on the table nearby. She checked her watch.

‘Classes stat soon. Better go,’ Hermione thought. She grabbed her books and her diary and went out of the Gryffindor common room. She went down the Grand Staircase, into the Entrance Hall, and was now on her way to the Dungeons.

“Hey, Granger,” Malfoy smirked from behind her

“Shut the hell up Malfoy,” she said, not even looking at him.

He spotted a small pink book in her pocket. He walked up to her and took it. Hermione turned around and saw Malfoy with her diary.

“Give me my--” she stopped. Malfoy opened it and started looking for something interesting. “You know what? Keep it. Show it to the world if you want to! All you care about is your stupid reputation. I don’t care what you do anymore.” She turned around and continued walking. Then, stopped and turned back around.

“Oh, and,” Malfoy looked at her. “Read the last page. You might learn something.” Hermione walked into the Potions classroom.

Malfoy turned to the last page she wrote on and read it. ‘She really, really, really hates me. And she cried? I thought I saw sadness on her face as she was walking out of the Great Hall. Shouldn’t I be happy that I made Granger cry? Why do I have this weird feeling inside of me? Eh, whatever.’ He went into the Potions classroom.

Hermione was in there, reading the Potions book (of course). She heard someone come in, so she looked back and turned back around when she saw who it was.

‘Ugh. Why is he in every class I’m in?’ Hermione thought. She continued reading.

Malfoy walked up to the table Hermione was at.

“Go ahead,” Hermione said, not taking her eyes off the book. “Start making fun of me.” She turned the page of the Potions book.

“Actually,” Malfoy put her diary on the Potions book she was reading. “I’m just returning this.”

Hermione looked at him. “So,” Students started coming in, including some Gryffindors and some Slytherins. “You read the last page, figured out how I feel right now, and…you feel guilty don’t you? Yes, Malfoy. That weird feeling that you felt inside after you read the diary entry is called guilt.”

‘Does she read minds or something?’ Malfoy wondered.

Hermione continued reading the Potions book.

“Look--” he got cut off.

“Whatever, Malfoy. You’re just a lying bastard. You lied to everyone,” Hermione said. “You read my diary, found something interesting, and, to make yourself look better, you lied.” Hermione smiled.

‘And I’ll lie to get out of this. Everyone’s watching and I do not want to ruin my reputation,‘ Malfoy was about to say something, but Hermione raised one finger in front of his face.

Hermione chuckled. “You were about to lie again, weren’t you?” Hermione asked. “Let me guess, since everyone’s here, you don’t want yourself to look stupid and ruin your reputation?”

“She’s good,” Harry whispered to Ron.

“I know you’re thinking, ‘Is she reading my mind?’ But, no I’m not,” Hermione said. “You think I’m the girl who’s the bookworm, and always spends most of her time in the library studying. Well, that is true, I can’t lie about that, but I know a lot of things. Not just about school, but about other things too. But you…even though you have a new date like, every five seconds, you still know nothing. I‘m not just the bookworm.”

Malfoy tried to think of something.

“So,” Hermione said. “Have a comeback?”

He said nothing.

“Okay, lie if you have to. I wouldn’t want to make you look stupid in front of everyone,” Hermione said. She looked at everyone and back at him. “Oh! Looks like I just did. Sorry, about that.” Hermione patted his shoulder. “I guess that’s the revenge you get for embarrassing me.” Hermione smirked.

Everyone who was watching, said, “Oooh!” in that ‘you got served’ way. He just glared at them. Everyone took a seat, and Snape entered the room, and the class started.

The whole class became bored while Snape was teaching, and Snape took away 10 points from Gryffindor because Hermione spoke without being called on again, and took away 5 points from Slytherin(surprisingly) because someone dozed off. Snape described about Veritaserum, and how it’s banned from competitions, and yada, yada, yada.

Finally, class ended and everyone followed each other out of the classroom. Hermione met up with Harry and Ron.

“You were brilliant back there, Hermione!” Ron said.

“I heard you the sixth time, Ron,” Hermione said.

“You really were, Hermione,” Harry added. Ginny met up with them.

“Hey Hermione! I heard what you did back there! Everyone’s talking about it!” Ginny said.

“Really? I didn’t think it would get around that fast. And, that’s what he gets for embarrassing me,” Hermione said. “The same thing happens to him.”

“But he read your diary and embarrassed you. You only embarrassed him,” Ginny said.

“I’ll work on that after vacation,” Hermione said. They went into the Entrance Hall, and saw Malfoy walk past them and walk to the door that led to outside.

Hermione and Ginny smiled. Harry and Ron just looked at them, thinking, ‘What are they up to?’

“You thinking what I’m thinking?” Hermione asked Ginny.

“Well, I’m not thinking what you’re thinking because all I’m thinking about is food,” Ron said.

“Ron, you’re always hungry,” Hermione said.

“Oh, yes I’m thinking what you’re thinking,” Ginny added.

“C’mon,” she said to Ginny. “We’ll see you later guys!”

“Bye Harry,” Ginny kissed him lightly on the lips. “I’ll see you later.”

They walked outside and saw Malfoy walking to a tree on the right.

“I think you should be the one going through it. I’ll meet you in the library,” Ginny said.

Ginny went inside as Hermione ducked down behind a bush, knowing Malfoy would look back and see if anyone was there. He did as Hermione thought and saw no one, so he kept walking towards his destination. Hermione followed quietly behind him.

‘I should’ve asked Harry if I could use his invisibility cloak,’ Hermione thought.

Before Hermione could even hide, Malfoy quickly turned around, and looked at Hermione suspiciously.

“Okay, so I’m following you,” Hermione said. “I guess you’ve noticed that.”

“Why?” he questioned.

“Because,” she began. “Embarrassing you wasn’t enough. You went through my private things and embarrassed me. I just embarrassed you. I want to go through something of yours that’s private, but I won’t tell everyone about it.”

He sighed. “So, how did you find out about it?”

“Ginny,” Hermione answered.

“How did that Weaselette find out?”

“She has her ways of finding things out,” Hermione said.

“Well, that tree,” He looked back and pointed at it. “Is my ‘journal.’

“Well, what are the spells? Well, actually it’s not really considered a spell is it? More like a word?”

“There are no spells or words to say,” Malfoy said.

Hermione had a confused look on her face.

“You tap the item with your wand a certain amount of times. Then, you use that Flagrate spell that makes you able to draw lines of--”

“I know what it does. Just continue,” Hermione interrupted.

“Well, you just write the words with that spell, and it’s stored in that item,”

“Interesting. How did your mom find out about this?” Hermione asked.

“I don’t know, actually. But it’s useful. Since only a few people know about it,” Malfoy said.

“And those few people are Zabini, Ginny, and me, right?”

“Yeah, but Blaise was only supposed to know about it, but that Weaselette found out about it by Merlin knows how,”

“Okay, so run along now and do whatever you were going to do,” Hermione said.

“Now, you run along now, and do whatever you were going to do,” Malfoy said.

“Okay,” Hermione smiled.

When she didn’t leave, Malfoy said, “Well?”

“What I’m running off along doing, I’m doing right now,” Hermione said.

Malfoy sighed. “I’m not letting you go through my thoughts.” He turned around and started to walk away.

Hermione quickly grabbed his wrist and pulled him inches away from her. “Yes you are. You could at least let me do this versus all the things you’ve done to me for six years, going on to seven.”

Malfoy bent down and kissed her, and after a few seconds pulled away. “Is that good enough?” He said pulling away, turning around, and walking towards a tree.

“There’s more. There’s more than just me. I know there is,” Hermione said.

“So, that just meant nothing to you?” he asked.

“Well… yes but… no, but--shut up!” Hermione yelled.

Malfoy laughed.

Why are you laughing?” Hermione asked clueless.

“I think it’s funny how you get worked up so easily,” Malfoy answered.

Hermione rolled her eyes. “Getting off subject,” Hermione said.

“Okay, so my dad wants me to become a Death Eater, blah, blah, blah,” Malfoy said. “Is that enough?”

“No. Malfoy, you found out about how it is back at my home. How my dad is. I want to know how your dad is now,”

“Well, my dad’s in Azkaban, so it doesn’t really matter,” Malfoy said.

“Everyone knows that. What everyone doesn’t know is how he treated you when he wasn’t in Azkaban,”

“Okay, so my dad was always so proud of me and stuff because Voldemort wanted me to become a Death Eater. I said that I didn’t want to and he gave me this whole lecture of how everyone should praise the Dark Lord. I didn’t listen to much of it because I wasn’t interested in serving him. I always thought it was cruel of how he just killed whoever he wanted. He always killed every mudblood he saw, and everyone who didn’t worship Voldemort. Imagine your father killing everyone he hated, killing every mudblood, and killing…everyone.” Malfoy explained.

“Do you love your father?” Hermione asked.

“Do you love your dad?” Hermione repeated.

“Well,” he paused for a while. Hermione waited patiently. “He almost killed me, you know. He almost killed me, his own flesh and blood. I don’t know actually.”

“Does he have a softer side?”

“Not that I’ve seen,”

“Okay. That’s all I wanted to hear,” Hermione said. She turned around and walked into the castle and into the library. She saw Ginny at a table by the window, reading a book.

“Hey,” Hermione greeted when she sat down at a chair across from her.

“Hey! I was watching you two,” Ginny smiled. “And, he kissed you, again? Care to explain?”

“The whole thing? Or just about why he kissed me?” Hermione asked.

“I watched you two for a while and it would probably take hours for you explain. Just about how he kissed you, then,” Ginny said.

“Okay. So, he told me that he’s not gonna let me go through his thoughts and started to walk away from me. I walked up to him, grabbed his wrist, and pulled him. I told him that he could at least let me do this versus him doing all the things he’s done to me. Then, he kissed me. After a few seconds, he said, ‘Was that good enough?’ So yeah.” Hermione explained.

“You’re kidding!” Ginny yelled quietly.

“What’s so surprising about it?” Hermione asked.

“You don’t get it, do you? He likes you, Hermione!”

“Now, what gives you that idea?”

“You asked him to explain his thoughts, he kissed you, and asked you if that was good enough? Don’t you get it?”

Hermione thought for a moment. “He things I kiss good?”

“Okay, okay. Let’s settle this. I’ll ask him right now and if he’s all nervous and stuff I’ll know that he--” she got cut off by Ginny.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. Go on, go on! Before he leaves! Cause he’s still out there,”

“Okay, okay, I’m going,” Hermione got up and walked out of the library and outside. She walked up to Malfoy and he looked at her.

“Now, what?” Malfoy asked.

“Malfoy,” she began.

“What? C’mon I haven’t got all day!” Malfoy yelled.

Hermione laughed. “And you say, I get worked up easily.”

Malfoy sighed. “What’s your question, Hermione?” They both froze when Malfoy said ‘Hermione.’ “I-I mean Granger.”

“Umm…” She suddenly just forgot your question and paused for a moment trying to think of the question. “Uh, sorry. I just didn’t even know that you even knew my first name.”

“Well, apparently, yes, I do. Now, what’s your question?” Malfoy asked.

“Umm…never mind,” Hermione said. She turned around and started walking, but Malfoy quickly grabbed her hand. She looked into his eyes. They weren’t their usual grey color full of hatred and annoyance, but was blue filled with… another emotion.

“What is your question?”

“Nothing. It’s no big deal anyway,”

They found each other staring at each other for a while, Malfoy still holding Hermione’s hand. Hermione shook her head and went back to reality.

“Umm…Malf--D-Draco, can you let go of my hand now?” She had trouble saying his first name.

“Oh, sorry,” He let go. Hermione turned around and walked back to the castle and into the library.

She walked into the library and to the table where Ginny was.

She took a breath when she sat down. “Okay, so he might.”

Ginny smiled. “I told you,” she said in a sing-song voice.

Hermione stood up, got a book from a shelf, and said, “Well, I’m going to check this book out and then, I’m going to go to the common room.”

“Okay,” Ginny continued reading her book.

Hermione walked to Madam Pince and checked the book out. Then, she opened it and started flipping pages and started reading while she was walking. She walked out of the library, and not looking where she was going, bumped into someone.

“Oh, I’m sor--” she stopped when she looked at who she bumped into. “Zabini?”

“Oh, sorry,” Blaise said. ‘Merlin, she got hot.’ He just kept on staring at her, and Hermione looked at him suspiciously.

He snapped out of it. “Oh! Nothing, mudblo--I mean Granger. Nothing.”

Hermione raised an eyebrow. “Okay then,” she said. “So, will you please get out of my way, so I can head to my destination?”

Malfoy entered Hogwarts and saw Blaise and…HERMIONE KISSING?!

Hermione threw him off of her. “WHAT are you doing?!” Hermione asked very surprised.

“Yes, Blaise,” Malfoy said. Hermione looked at him and jumped a little. She hoped he didn’t notice that. “What are you doing?”

“Why? She doesn’t have boyfriend, does she?” Blaise asked smirking.

Hermione’s jaw dropped. Disgusting!

“Ugh! Zabini, you’re disgusting!” She pushed him in the chest so hard that he fell over.

“Nice,” Malfoy said.

“Ooh! Good one, Hermione!” Ginny said from behind them.

Hermione turned around. “Thanks,” she smiled.

“Merlin, that mudblood’s strong,” Blaise said, standing up.

“Or maybe you’re just weak,” Hermione crossed her arms.

“He is. Arm wrestled him once. It lasted two seconds. I won, of course,” Ginny said.

“No, you didn’t!” Blaise said defending himself.

“Stop trying to defend yourself, Zabini,” Ginny said.

“I’m not trying to defend myself. Maybe you’re just lying!”

“She beat you in arm wrestling, Blaise. Just face it,” Malfoy said. Blaise glared at him.

“Well, we’ll just be heading to the Gryffindor common room,” Ginny said. “C’mon, Hermione.”

“Well, that was weird,” Hermione said.

“You got that right,” Ginny said.

Malfoy went into the Slytherin common room. ‘Ah! Granger’s leaving tomorrow. I better right that letter…’ He took out a piece of parchment and a quill and ink and sat down at a desk in the common room. He started writing…
