Chapter 7: Sirius’ Plan

James was up in the 7th Year boy’s dormitory with Remus and Sirius. James was telling them how things were going with Lily, but what he didn’t know was that Sirius and Remus already knew all of this as it had been their doing in the first place. But they listened anyway, they didn’t want James to figure out what they were doing.

“Prongs,” Sirius said suddenly. James looked at him, he had been half way through telling them what Lily said in Potions yesterday.

“I think we need to do something bigger than just talking to Evans. We need to really get her attention. Get her to notice you and how you feel,” said Sirius

“What did you have in mind?” James asked, interested

“James what happened to not making a fool of yourself?” Remus asked

“Don’t worry Mooney, he won’t. Not really,” said Sirius smiling

“What do you mean not really Padfoot? What are you thinking?”

“Singing!” Sirius said smiling widely at his friends

“Are you serious?” asked Remus

“Don’t even think about it Padfoot. That joke is banned,” said Remus

“But singing would be perfect!” Sirius insisted. “I have it all planned out. Evans is walking up the halls and suddenly the lights go out,” he said jumping onto his bed.

“Then, Prongs comes up the hall singing and we put a spotlight on him. We have to get a song that starts slow,” he thought to himself. “Then it gets faster and we have lights everywhere and Prongs runs up to Evans singing. She won’t be able to resist him. We could get the whole school in on it. It will be great and little Ms Evans will be yours Prongs,” said Sirius triumphantly.

Remus looked at him stunned. “We have to stop his plan at all costs. Lily will hate James. Trust Sirius to come up with something like this,” he thought.

“There is no way Prongs is doing that. Lily will kill him!” Remus insisted

“No she won’t. She’ll love him. She will think he is really sweet to sing to her.”

“This is Lily we are talking about,” said James. “When has she ever said she would love for me to run up to her in the halls singing? I don’t think she’ll go for it Padfoot.”

Sirius looked defeated. He was getting tired of just sitting around waiting for something to happen. It wasn’t in his nature. “Ok, if he won’t do it maybe I can modify the plan a bit,” he thought to himself. “Yes I can see it now. This is going to be brilliant!”

Remus and James were still looking at Sirius. They knew he wouldn’t let this go, but they just hoped he wouldn’t do anything stupid.

Later that night Lily and James were doing their rounds on the 5th floor. They weren’t talking but it wasn’t an uncomfortable silence. It was easier to be in each others company than either of them realised.

James was thinking the best way to tell Lily he wouldn’t be able to do rounds with her tomorrow night. But he couldn’t tell her why. Tomorrow night was a full moon so he would of course be out with Remus, but he couldn’t tell Lily that. If he told her he had detention or something like that she would think he had gone back to being an immature idiot.

“Em…Lily, I have to tell you, I-,” but he was stopped from saying anything else because at that moment the lights went out. “Oh no! He didn’t?” thought James

But he had.

(I Love You Baby - Frankie Valli)
‘You’re just too good to be true,
Can’t take my eyes off of you,
You’d be like heaven to touch,
I want to hold you so much,
At long last love has arrived,
I thank God I’m alive,
You’re just too good to be true,
Can’t take my eyes off of you.

Pardon the way that I stare.
There's nothing else to compare.
The sight of you leaves me weak.
There are no words left to speak,
But if you feel like I feel,
Please let me know that it's real.
You're just too good to be true.
Can't take my eyes off you.

James looked around in complete shock. He couldn’t move. All of a sudden different coloured lights filled the halls and the suits of armour magically began to play trumpets. James couldn’t believe he had done this. “I’m going to kill him!”

I love you, baby,
And if it's quite alright,
I need you, baby,
To warm a lonely night.
I love you, baby.
Trust in me when I say:
Oh, pretty baby,
Don't bring me down, I pray.
Oh, pretty baby, now that I found you, stay
And let me love you, baby.
Let me love you.

James looked at Lily she how she was reacting to this but she seemed completely mortified by the situation. “Who can blame her? She probably thinks it was my idea. I’m going to kill him. Slowly and painfully,”

Things seemed to have stopped so James turned to Lily to tell her this wasn’t his idea, but it seemed it wasn’t over yet. As soon as turned to Lily more music started. If he thought the last one was bad, it was nothing compared to what was coming next. The lights went low again but didn’t go out completely like the last time. The suits of armour began to play different instruments again to the beat of the music.

(Kiss the Girl - The Little Mermaid Soundtrack)
‘There you see her,
Sitting there across the way,
She don’t got a lot to say,
But there’s something about her,
And you don’t know why,
But you’re dying to try,
You want to, Kiss the girl.’

‘Yes you want her,
Look at her you know you do,
Possibly she wants you too,
There is one way to ask her,
It don’t take a word,
Not a single word,
Go on and, Kiss the girl.’

“Sing with me now,” said a voice

Suddenly, hundreds of little fairies came flying all around James and Lily, circling them, and glowing different colours.

Sha la la la la la la
My oh my looks like the boy too shy
Ain't gonna kiss the girl
Sha la la la la la la
Ain't that sad
Ain't it a shame too bad
You're gonna miss the girl

Lily was trying to laugh. She had a feeling she knew who was behind this, and by the shocked look on James face it was not him.

Now's your moment
Floating in a blue lagoon
Boy you'd better do it soon
No time would be better
She don't say a word
And she won't say a word until
You kiss the girl

Sha la la la la la la
Don't be scared
Go on and move your head
You gotta kiss the girl (“Whoo Whoo” sang the armour”)
Sha la la la la la la
Don't stop now
Don't try to hide it now
You wanna kiss the girl (Whoo Whoo!”)

Sha la la la la la la
Float along and
Listen to the song
The song say "Kiss the girl!" (Whoo Whoo!”)
Sha la la la la la la,
Let the music play,
Do what the music says,
You gotta kiss the girl.

At the end of the song the pixies showered James and Lily with small pink confetti hearts and glitter. Then they disappeared.

Lily couldn’t hold it in anymore and burst out laughing. She was mortified that someone had done this, but the look on James face was priceless. He turned to her with a questioning look. She started to laugh again.

“You mean to tell me you found that funny?”

“Well…no….not really. It’s just, the look on your face when it started. You weren’t in on it then?” she asked trying not to laugh

“Of course not but-“

“Good because if you were I would kill you,” she said smiling sweetly at him

“But I do know who did it,” said James walking down the corridor and stopped in front of an old tapestry. Lily followed him and he pulled the tapestry back to reveal two people.

“Jo!” Lily shouted looking at her friend who was rolling around on the floor laughing with none other than Sirius Black.

“You mean to tell me you did this?” she asked outraged

“Not on my own. It was his idea. I just helped,” Jo said laughing

James went over to Sirius and hit him over the head. “Padfoot you idiot! I told you NOT to do that,”

Lily turned to James. “You knew he was planning this?” she asked

“No, well yes. But I told him not to. I knew you wouldn’t like it but he obviously didn’t listen,” said James hitting Sirius again.

“Ow Prongs. You have to learn to control your emotions mate. You shouldn’t repress things, let them out,” said Sirius who was still on the ground.

“You’re right Padfoot,” said James hitting him again

“Why did you do that?”

“You told me to let out my feelings. Right now they’re anger,” he answered and hit him over the head again.

“Oh Prongs, do you mean you didn’t enjoy our little show? And you didn’t take the advice of the last song. I don’t seem to remember you kissing Evans? Do you Jo?” asked Sirius

“Nope! I don’t think he grasped the concept. You have probably upset Lily over this James. I sure she wanted you to kiss her. Isn’t that right Lil?”

Lily rolled her eyes. “No that’s not right. Now you better get back to the common room before I give you both detention, which I an very tempted to do right now. Come on Potter,” she said turning to James. “We have to finish rounds.”

“Ok. See you tomorrow Padfoot,” said James giving hm a threatening look before following Lily.

“I think that went quite well. I expected Lily to go mad at us and James. She must be coming around,” said Jo still laughing at the look on James and Lily’s face when they saw them.

“Or course she is. My plans always work!” laughed Sirius smiling widely at Jo.
