Chapter 1
A New Year at Hogwarts

Hermione was getting ready. She put on a pink tank top with a white sweater. She wore a denim mini skirt and pink sneakers. Her hair was tied in a messy bun.

Hermione went to the train station and couldn't find her friends. She figured that they already went on the train since it was leaving in ten minutes. On her way there, there was a big crowd of people boarding a train and Hermione could barely get through. Draco Malfoy was also in the crowd.

"Excuse me," Hermione said. "Excuse me, sorry." She bumped into someone. "Oh, I'm sorry--" Hermione said as she looked up. She gasped when she saw who it was.

"Next time, watch where you're going, Granger," he said. Hermione gave Malfoy a dirty look and walked through Platforms nine and ten, and went on the Hogwarts Express. She tried to find Harry, Ron, and Ginny. After looking through many compartments, she finally found them.

"Hey, Hermione!" they all said in unison.

"Sorry we didn't wait for you. We wanted to get a good seat. We thought that you would instantly come on the train when you found we weren't there," Ron explained.

"Well, you thought right," Hermione took a seat next to Ron. Suddenly, the train started moving.

"I really like your outfit," Ginny said. "I really never saw you dress like this."

"Yeah, I've changed a bit during the summer," Hermione said while fixing her shirt. "Oh yeah, Malfoy will be coming any moment now to do his yearly ‘annoying us before school starts’ thing. I bumped into him while I was on my way to the platform." Malfoy suddenly walked to their compartment and slid the door open.

“What do you want, Malfoy?” Hermione asked annoyed at him already.

"Nothing, you filthy little mudblood." Hermione rolled her eyes. "It's just so much fun tormenting you, Potthead, the Weasel, and the Weaselette." He looked at Hermione. HIs expression looked as if he was impressed, but he quickly turned it into a glare. No one noticed this except Hermione. "I wonder if there's a reward of being so ugly."

"Thank you for the wonderful compliment, Malfoy," Hermione said sarcastically. "Now get out of this compartment!"

"Do all the talking, Hermione," Ron said.

"I'll get out of this compartment when I want to!" Malfoy yelled as if he were a little kid.

"And when do you plan on getting out?" Hermione asked. "The day you're actually nice to me?"

"Don't worry," Malfoy said. "That will never happen." He walked away.

"You know, he is the most annoying person and I wish he would just stop," Hermione said.

When they reached Hogwarts they went into the Great Hall and sat down at the Gryffindor table. After a few minutes, the Sorting Hat ceremony began. Two new people were picked to be in Hufflepuff, three in Ravenclaw, four in Slytherin, and three in Gryffindor.

"Attention!" The whole room hall became silent. "No students are allowed in the Dark Forest or on the Third Floor. The same rules still apply. I'm sure no big rule-breaking will happen this year," Dumbledore said, looking over at the Harry, Ron, and Hermione with a glint in his eye. "Now, let the feast begin." Food showed up on the tables and Ron, hungry as hell, dug in.

When the feast was over, everyone went to their common rooms. Hermione sat down on a couch in the common room and started reading a book. After a few minutes, Ginny entered the common room.

"Hey, Hermione!" Ginny greeted as she took a seat next to her.

"Oh! Hey, Ginny!" Hermione greeted. She put her bookmark between the pages where she left off, closed it, and put it on a nearby table.

"So… how do you think this year’s gonna be?” Ginny asked.

“Like all the others, I guess. Except the fact that we’re graduating,” Hermione replied.

“Lucky,” Ginny said.

“You’re gonna graduate next year,” Hermione said.

“So, anyway, do you like anyone?” Ginny said with a smile. She would always ask this question every year to Hermione.

"No," Hermione said. "I like Ron as a friend and the same with Harry. If I took Harry, you would kill me!"

"Yeah, I really like him. I'm just scared that he does not like me back," Ginny said.

"He likes you. Trust me," Hermione said.

"He does?" Ginny asked hopefully.

"Yes, so stop worrying," Hermione answered.

"Well, I'm sure you'll get someone this year," Ginny said.

"Really? I didn't get anyone for the past six years. What makes you think I'll get someone the seventh, and last, year at Hogwarts?" Hermione asked slowly, thinking about how this is her last year.

"Well, you've changed," Ginny explained.

“Just the way I dress! I’m still the smart, intelligent Hermione Granger. It’s not like my personality changed,” Hermione explained.

"But some guys judge a book by it’s cover and not the pages inside it,” Ginny said.

"Hey, Ginny! Hey, Hermione!" Harry greeted when he entered.

"Sorry, you two. I have to go," Hermione said with a smile.

"But--" Ginny said, trying to stop her.

"You'll be fine," Hermione whispered to her so that Harry couldn't hear. Harry took a seat next to Ginny as Hermione exited the common room.

She went outside and walked around. It was so relaxing to be out all alone. The chilly wind pressing on her face and her hair going all over the place. Hermione sat down on the ground. She started thinking of all different things. She thought about her summer vacation, how much she has changed over the summer, and even when she bumped into Malfoy on her way to the train, the way he insulted them like he always did. She started thinking of how Malfoy looked at her when he made that rude comment about how she dressed.

I never ever saw him look at me or anyone like that before. How come he looked at me like that? Hermione thought. She was getting a little cold. So, she stood up and walked inside. She started walking back to the common room. She wasn't really paying attention of where she was walking and bumped into Malfoy (again) and fell onto her back. She stood up having a bit of pain on her back. Malfoy stood there and chuckled.

"Yeah Malfoy. Laugh. Next time I bump into you, I'm not going to be the one falling down," Hermione said.

"Yeah, we'll see about that," Malfoy said. Once Hermione started walking, Malfoy put his foot out and Hermione tripped and fell on her arm. Hermione looked at Malfoy, a tear falling down on her cheek. Hermione then stood up, holding her arm, and ran away.
