Disclaimer: I do not own the song Better Than Me. It is performed by Hinder on their CD Extreme Behavior, however the plot does belong to me.

Draco sat down on the couch in front of the fireplace. The small room was illuminated softly. He had never seen it coming ... Well, he had, but he had never pictured it happening like this. He loved her, but he knew she was right when she left him.

Draco got up and walked over to his bedroom and looked around. It was so quiet ... Too quiet. It seemed so dull without her constant laugh ringing throughout the apartment.

A picture of her had now caught his eyes, and he went over and picked it up off of the dresser. She was so beautiful in his eyes. How could he have done what he did to her? He now felt the biggest guilt in his stomach.

Draco placed the picture face down back on the dresser and turned away. He told himself he wouldn’t miss her. If he did, it would only make things worse. But somehow ... She always crept back into his head.

I think you can do much better than me
After all the lies that I made you believe
Guilt kicks in and I start to see
The edge of the bed
Where your nightgown used to be
I told myself I wont miss you
But I remembered
What it feels like beside you

Draco leaned his head against the wall and closed his eyes tightly. Why? Why was all he could ask himself. Why did he lie to her so many times? She had finally trusted him, and then she found out the truth.

Now, she was gone. She was now dating a guy named Josh, and Draco couldn’t help but be jealous. All he could think of was how they were probably doing things together right now that they had once done together ... He was probably holding her in his arms ... Something that Draco wanted to do more than anything right now ...

I really miss your hair in my face
And the way your innocense tastes
And I think you should know this
You deserve much better than me

Draco walked to his closet in the back corner of his room and reached to the top shelf and pulled a box down. He opened it and pulled out an envelope that was addressed to him. Actually, the box was filled with notes addressed to him, all in the same familiar hand writing.

He opened the envelope and removed the letter that was in it. As he unfolded the letter, pictures fell out of it and onto the floor. He smiled at them. They were pictures of her. He then read the letter.

Hey Draco,

I love you, hun, I just wanted to make sure you knew that. I know you love me too!

Draco put the letter down and put his head in his hands. He did love her, but he didn’t then know how he let himself lie to her ... How could he hurt her like that?

While looking through you old box of notes
I found those pictures
I took that you were looking for
If there’s one memory I don’t wanna loose
That time at the mall
You and me in the dressing room
I told myself I wont miss you
But I remembered
What it feels like beside you

Draco looked up and took in a deep breath. He stood up and walked out into the main room. He sat down on the couch and stared at the glowing flame. And almost like a dream, she appeared ... Right there next to him. She leaned over and rested her head on his shoulder. Draco put his arm around her and ran his hand through her hair. He could smell her apple spice body spray that she loved so much. It smelled so good ...

I really miss your hair in my face
And the way your innocense tastes
And I think you should know this
You deserve much better than me

He was starting to regret all that he had done to her ... Actually, he already did. He knew what he had done was wrong, and he wished he could take it all back, make it all better. But he couldn’t. It was too late now.

It had been the most memorable night he had had with her. Then, she found out, got up, and left. Why had he been the one to end it? Why had he let her leave? Why hadn’t he gone after her?

The bed I’m lying in is getting colder
Wish I never would have said it’s over
And I can’t pretend that I wont think about you
When I’m older
Cause we never really had our closure
This cant be the end

Now, here she was, her head on his shoulder, watching the fire glow with him like old times. It was too good to be true. He had to be dreaming. She couldn’t really be there. It had to be his lust for her taking over now. There was no way she was really there ...

I really miss your hair in my face
And the way your innocense tastes
And I think you should know this
You deserve much better than me
And I think you should know this ...

Jacey sat back up and looked into Draco’s eyes and smiled delicately before her figure faded away in the light ...

You deserve much better than me
