"Here, try this on" Scarlett said, throwing clothes at Alex.

"I don't know, Scarlett. This skirt looks a little short." Alex said, examining the denim skirt in her hands.

"Come on. I know it would look good on you," Scarlett debated.

"But I really can't wear it. Not tonight at least." Alex protested. She just didn't have the courage to wear that skirt.

"Fine. Here wear this instead." Scarlet said, giving in and throwing Alex a pair of low rise jeans. Alex frowned but proceeded to change into the clothes.

It was dinnertime; Scarlett and Alex got to the Great Hall early and ate quickly to return to the common room. Scarlett wanted to help Alex get ready for her date with Harry. Alex was both excited and nervous. It was her first date and she would experience it with one of the most goodlooking guys at Hogwarts.

"I don't know about this," Alex said again, having changed into her clothes. Her outfit consisted of the low rise jeans and a baby blue, v-neck top.

"Oh stop it, Alex. You look awesome." She put her hand up to stop the other girl from speaking. "Trust me. You look good. Now come sit over here so I can help you with your hair and makeup." Scarlett said, jesturing to a chair in front of a large vanity. Make up and some ahir products were strewn across it. Alex did not protest; she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror and Scarlett was right, she did look good.

An hour, three spells, and seven makeup containers later, Alex was ready for her date. Scarlett had made her hair hang around her shoulders in soft waves - much different than her usual frizzy waves. Her makeup was done perfectly, not an eyelash out of place. When Alex looked into the mirror she almost didn't recognize herself. She looked pretty, the kind of pretty that made other girls hate you and guys adore you.

"So? What do you think?" Scarlett asked, grinning.

"I love it! Thank you so much!" Alex said, hugging her friend.

"I knew you'd like it!" Scarlett hugged her back.

"Beep beep beep" sounded.

"I set my clock for 7:45. That gives you fifteen minutes to show up. Are you ready?" Scarlett asked, turning off the alarm.

Alex was suddenly overcome with nerves. She felt as though butterflies, no bats, were flying around in her stomach.

"I don't know if I can do this" she said.

"Oh, come on. Don't back out now," Scarlett pleaded. "You have nothing to lose and a very good looking guy to gain." she added, smiling.

Alex cracked a smile. "Alright I'm ready" she said after taking a deep breath. Scarlett smiled again and together they walked out of their dormitory and straight out of the common room. Several people turned their heads to look at them as they walked by. With every step, she gained confidence until she reached the front steps of the school. They looked out at the lake and saw a dark figure standing by a tree near the edge.

"I can't do this," Alex said, turning around and starting back to the school. Scarlett stopped her.

"No. I am not letting you chicken out now. You don't want to disappoint him do you?" she asked the other girl.

Alex looked back out towards the figure. "Of course not," she said.

"Well than what are you waiting for?" Alex gave her a scared look. "You'll be fine, I promise" she reassured her friend. Alex gave her one last hug for comfort and set off across the grounds towards the lake.

As Alex got closer and closer, her nerves grew and grew. She felt very close to being sick to her stomach. A few times she thought about turning around and returning to the safety of her dormitory but she continued on until she reached the dark figure. As soon as he smiled at her, all her nerves vanished.

"Hey," he said, obviously happy to see her.

"Hi" she said back, shyly.

"You look great" he added.

Alex blushed and smiled. "Thanks" she said, shyly once again.

Harry gestured for her to sit next to him against the tree. For a few minutes they just watched the sun set over the the lake.

"Beautiful isn't it?" Alex asked.

"You are" Harry replied softly. Most of the time that Alex was looking at the sunset, Harry was watching her. This comment made Alex blush even more. He grinned at her. "So tell me about yourself" he said, trying to start a conversation.

"Well, what do you want to know?" she asked mysteriously.

"Everything" Harry replied truthfully. So Alex started talking about everything, just liek Harry had asked. She talked about her family, her life at Hogwarts, and her plans for the future. When she was finished, Harry began in his tale. She listened intently, truly not wanting to miss any word. They spent a long while just talking to eachother, spending time with one another.

"So this summer I turned of age and now I never have to see those horrible people again" Harry finished. She knew he was talking about the Dursleys. Alex smiled and shivered. She had gradually gotten colder as night began to fall around them. She wrapped her arms around herself to keep warm while Harry took notice.

"Are you cold?" He asked her warmly.

Alex nodded shlyly. "A little" she said, her teeth chattering. Harry moved closer to her and wrapped his arms around her body.

"Better?" he asked.

"Loads" she replied, looking him in the eyes.

They lost each other for a moment in the other's eyes. Seconds later, Alex felt Harry's warm breath on her lips and realized that he wanted to kiss her. Their mouths were inches away, their eyes were closing. But just then, a loud boom sounded over the forest, disturbing the moment. They pulled away from eachother and sat there, looking at the forest for a moment. Then Harry's watch beeped. He looked at his watch and sighed, the battery had just ran out.

"My watch just died" he said glumly. Alex found something oddly funny in the whole situation and stiffled a giggle. Harry saw her grinning and grinned too. He saw that his watch dying lightened the mood greatly.

"Let me see it." she said suddenly.

"I'm sorry?" Harry asked, slightly confused.

"Let me see you watch" Alex said again. Harry handed her the watch and watched her intently. He hadn't the slightest clue about what she was going to do. She had pulled out her wand, touched it to his watch, and muttered a spell that he didn't know. She then smiled and handed him his watch.

"It's fixed now." she said, smiling greatly. He looked at his watch and he too grinned.

"Thanks," he said, examining it. "Wow, it's ten thirty already. Time sure does fly." he pointed out. Alex was surprised. 'Was it really ten thirty? I didn't even realize' she thought.

"I guess I better start heading up. I have an early class tomorrow." she said standing slowly. Harry nodded and she offered her hand to him. He took it, standing up and smiling. He did not let her hand go but instead, to her surprise, he gently pulled her in for a long, warm hug. When the embrace broke, they walked back to the castle together, hand in hand. They walked unseen, up the main staircase before they had to part.

"I had a great time tonight." Harry said softly.

"Me too. it was really nice to be able to talk to someone." she said.

"Maybe we can get together again sometime" he asked.

"I'd love to." she replied smiling. Their eyes locked for a moment before Alex did something she had never done before. She quickly stood on her tip toes and pecked Harry's lips. "Good night" she said quietly, before turning around and heading back to her common room.

Harry stood there for a few seconds, slightly shockedbut more pleased. He smiled to himself and watched her disappear before he too returned to his common room.

"So?" Scarlett asked Alex excitedly as she walked into their room.

"It was great!" Alex gushed, flopping onto her bed, which was opposite Scarlett's.

"Tell me everything" Scarlett said eagerly.

"Well, we just talked really. We just got to know eachother better I guess." Alex smiled.

"That's it?" Scarlett sounded a bit disappointed.

"Well, hehugged me when I said I was cold..."

"That's more like it" Scarlett interrupted.

Alex continued. "Ane we almost kissed, but we didn't and then we walked back to the castleholding hands," "Awww" Scarlett let out. Alex smiled again. "And then we said goodnight" she finished.

"No kiss?" Scarlett asked.

"I kissed him" Alex adimitted.

"You did?" Scarlett was surprised.

"Yeah, really quickly before I left" she added.

"Aww, that's so cute!" Scarlett gushed. They spent some more time talking about the date and the party the next night.

Harry strolled into the Gryffindor common room and was surprised to see his two best friends, Hermione Granger and Ron, still awake. It was only the first day of school.

"How was it?" Ron asked immediatley, eager to hear about his date.

"It was great!" Harry replied, grinning.

"What did you do? Anything interesting?" Ron asked, winking. Hermione elbowed him. "What?" he put on an innocent face. Harry chuckled.

"We just talked... about everything." Harry said, thinking about the past few hours.

"So are you going to see her again?" Hermione asked, unable to resist.

"I hope to see her again. You know, maybe get to know her a bit more" Harry replied.

"Well you can really get to know her tomorrow at the party" Ron said, grinning. Hermione elbowed him again, harder this time. "Stop it!" he exclaimed. Harry laughed at his friends and thought hard about the peice of information he had just heard. 'The party is tomorrow' he thought. He let his mind wander as he stared into the fire across the room.
