Author's Note: I'm not sure yet if I want this story to be post HBP yet because of a certain character that shouldn't be in the story but is. I decided to start this new story because I've got riders block on my other ones and this one keeps putting my other ideas aside. Anyway, this story is probably going to turn out post HBP so beware of spoilers if you didn't read the book yet.

Alex walked into the Ravenclaw common room and walked up to her dormitory. It was the first day of the new year, a Wednesday and her seventh year at Hogwarts. She was a pretty girl, quiet and shy. She did not have many friends and had blended into the backround all her life. She had brown wavy hair that went a little passed her shoulders. It was always pulled back, to keep it out of her face while she studied. She was thin, not too thin, but thin all the same. Her skin was fair and with out blemishes. Needless to say she was a pretty girl, but sadly, that had not been recognized by many people. She set her bag on her bed and stood in front of the mirror next to her bed. She took her hair down and observed herself carefully. She removed her robe and examined her body. It had filled out quite a bit over the passed few years. She thought she looked almost pretty, just not pretty enough to be noticed.

Suddenly, the door to the room opened and Alex's roommates walked in. They were a some of the few people that new she existed. Those girls were some of the most popular in the seventh year. the leader of the pack was Scarlett. She was the most beautiful, the most wealthy, and the most loved amongst the boys. She had shoulder length dirty blond hair and bright blue eyes. She was a picture of beauty and she knew it. She had many boyfriends, and was no stranger to getting what she wanted.

"Why don't you wear your hair down more, Alex" Scarlett said lightly.

"Yeah, you'd look so beautiful" another girl, Becky, said.

"With a little bit of make up, you'd have all the boys after you" Scarlett said.

"Really?" Alex asked, dreaming up the image of boys chasing her in her head.

"Yeah, let us show you" Becky said. All the girls gathered make up and hair supplies, and an hour later, the new Alex was revealed.

"What do you think?" Scarlett asked, standing behind her in the mirror.

"I love it! Thank you so much!" she said to all the girls. She was so happy with her new look and she couldn't wait to see what other people would think. The girls talked for a while about the upcoming school year and then went to bed. Alex lay awake thinking about the next day for a while before she finally drifted off to sleep.

The next morning Alex woke up earlier than usual. She would need extra time to apply her make up like the other girls taught her the previous night. When she was dressed and beautified, she made her way down to breakfast, more confident than ever before.

Alex was conscious of all the people staring at her as she sat down at the Ravenclaw table in the Great Hall. Scarlett and the other girls smiled at her. For the first time ever, Alex engaged in conversation with girls her age about things teenagers talk about. She felt accepted and liked for the first time at Hogwarts.

"And there's going to be a party this Friday in the Room of Requirement for all the seventh years. We could really see how your new look works then" Scarlett said to her.

"Yeah, that sounds like fun." Alex said happily. They continued talking all the way to their first class of the year, Herbology with the Gryffindors.

The girls walked together in their usual pack, across the grounds. The only difference was that this time, Alex was in the front with Scarlett. Alex wasn't used to getting a lot of attention but Scarlett was. As they walked, Scarlett waved and smiled at people, mostly boys. Alex just walked, still taking in her new found popularity. When they reached the greenhouses, Scarlett and Alex were approached by the one of the most popular boys in Gryffindor, Ron Weasley. Scarlett hugged him, she had gone out with him a few times and they were pretty close.

"Hello ladies" he greeted them.

"Hi Ron." Scarlett said after their hug. She caught him checking Alex out. "I don't believe you two have met. Alex, this is Ron, Ron, Alex" she said introducing them.

"Hi" Alex said shyly.

"Hey" Ron said, with a lot of interest.

"Oy Ron! Get over here!" Harry Potter, another popular Gryffindor, yelled from across the room. Ron sent on last look Alex's way and left to see his friend.

Scarlett squealed. "He was totally checking you out, Alex! I knew you looked good! Pretty soon all the boys will be coming your way." she gushed.

"Do you think so?" Alex said, feeling a thousand times better about herself.

"Yeah!" Scarlett said happily.

"Who is that boy next to Ron? Is that Harry Potter?" Alex asked softly, not wanting to be heard by anyone but Scarlett.

"Yes, that's him. Why?" Scarlett looked at her suspiciously.

"No reason." Alex said dismissively.

"Alright class! Gather around here!" Professor Sprout said before Scarlett could press the subject.

"Come on let's go" Alex said, leading Scarlett towards the other students.

Later that night, the girls were talking in their dormitory.

"So Alex, are you excited about the party on Friday?" Becky asked her.

"Yeah, I am" she said truthfully.

"Are there any guys that you fancy?" one of the girls, Padma Patil, asked.

Alex smiled shyly. "I don't know. I think that Harry Potter is pretty fit." she confessed.

"Oooooo" the girls taunted her. Alex blushed.

"He is good looking though. and not a bad kisser either" Scarlett said.

"Scarlett, have you really kissed every boy in the seventh year?" Alex asked. She surprised herself; normally she would have kept quiet, but this time she spoke with out thinking.

"Well, almost. there's one boy that I still have yet to kiss." Scarlett smirked.

"Draco Malfoy" all the girls said in unison.

"I'm hoping to add him to the list on Friday at the party." Scarlett began to daydream about the party.

"I just thought about it. What am I going to wear?" Padma said, half panicking. At once, the girls got up and rummaged through their trunks, looking for something they could were to the party. Alex just sat on her bed watching them; she was not used to this type of teenage activity. She was used to just waking up and wearing whatever. She never felt the need to get dressed up for anything, or anyone. Now she needed to get dressed up but she didn't have the clothes to dress in.

"Why are you looking for what to wear today? Isn't the party in two days?" Alex asked. Padma and Becky just looked at her. Scarlett saw Alex's face full of confusion and a hint of embarrassment and she decided to put Alex out of her misery.

"It might take a while to find the perfect outfit." Scarlett said kindly.

"I don't have any party clothes." Alex said, feeling a little distant from the girls.

"That's okay. You can borrow some of my clothes" Scarlett offered.

"Thanks. That's so nice of you. I'm going to pass on the clothes hunting tonight. I'm going to bed. I'm really tired." Alex announced.

"All right then. Goodnight" the girls said.

"Goodnight." she said while she pulled closed the curtains on her bed. She was really excited about the party but she was nervous all the same. It would be her first party. She hoped that she would be able to get some boys' attention, especially Harry's.

Alex, Scarlett, Padma, Becky and the other girls walked together down to breakfast the next morning. Alex was surprised how a lot of people now knew her name. It was as if she became popular overnight. The girls walked into the Great Hall and sat down at the Ravenclaw table.

"So Alex, I think Harry and Ron are in our Potions this year." Scarlett said to her.

Alex smiled really big. "That's really good" she said, trying not to sound overly excited. She allowed her gaze to wander to the Gryffindor table where she caught Harry's gaze. He winked at her and held her gaze for a moment before he joined a conversation at his table. Alex smiled to herself and continued to eat her breakfast, hoping that Harry would talk to her during Potions.

"Come on Scarlett, we're going to be late" Alex said, pulling her new found friend to Potions.

"I'm coming, I'm coming" Scarlett dragged herself away from the Hufflepuff boy she was talking, well, flirting with.

Alex and Scarlett walked into their Potions classroom and took seats towards the back of the class. Alex noticed that Harry and Ron were already there, as well as most of the rest of the class. Scarlett spotted Parvati, Padma's twin sister, and left to talk to her. Alex sat quietly by herself until Harry got up and made his way over to her.

"Your Alex, right?" he asked casually.

"Yeah, and your Harry?" she said as a question.

"Yeah, nice to meet you" he said, sitting in Scarlett's seat. Alex smiled at him. She caught his eyes glance over her body quickly before he continued talking to her. "I was wondering, if maybe you would like to meet me at the lake after dinner? You know, so we could get to know each other and stuff."

Alex couldn't believe it. Was Harry Potter really asking her what she thought he was asking her? She looked across the room to Scarlett who had been watching the two teenagers the whole time. She showed Alex two thumbs up and nodded. Alex took a breath and turned her attention back at Harry who had started to get discouraged.

"I'd love to" she said finally.

Harry looked relieved. "Great, then I'll meet you at 8?" he confirmed.

Alex nodded. "I'll be there." she smiled.

Just then Professor Slughorn walked into the dungeon classroom and called the class to attention. Harry flashed one more heart melting smile at Alex before returning to his seat. Alex was too shocked about what had just happened to notice the Scarlett had slipped into the seat where Harry was just sitting.

"So? Tell me what just happened!" she whispered excitedly.

"I'm meeting him at the lake tonight at eight o'clock." Alex whispered back.

"I'm so happy for you!" Scarlett exclaimed.

"Girls, is there something you'd like to share with the class?" Professor Slughorn asked.

"No, sir" they replied in a monotone. They started to act like they were paying attention to the class, but neither of them were listening. As soon as Professor Slughorn turned his back, they resumed their excited whispering about Alex and Harry.
