Okay all! Here's this songfic! Please read and review!

James Potter sat with his back against a tree by the lake. It was his final year at Hogwarts and April was already coming to an end. He looked across the lake where a group of girls sat chattering relentlessly. His hazel eyes fell onto a certain fiery red head.

“Earth to Prongs,” came the voice of his best friend, Sirius Black. James blinked before grinning at the handsome boy in front of him that had become know as ‘the lady’s man’ of Hogwarts in his first week there. “What are you staring at?”

“Isn’t obvious,” Remus Lupin teased. “Who is the one person he stares out no matter how many times she’s shot him down?”

“Is it Lily?” Peter Pettigrew asked, truly wondering.

“Of course it is, you oaf,” Sirius barked. Peter gave a timid smile and James turned back in the direction of the girl.

“Lily Evans is the one girl I want most in the world and the one I can’t ever have,” he sighed. “It’s already the end of April. I’ll never see her again.”

What day is it?
And in what month?
This clock never seemed so alive
I can't keep up and I can't back down
I've been losing so much time

“Don’t give up, Prongs,” James heard Sirius’s voice bring him back to reality. “The year’s not over yet.”

“Come on, Padfoot,” he huffed, “how many times have I asked her out?”

“About—well, a lot!” Sirius concluded.

“How many of those times has she even considered it?” James continued.

“None.”

“But that doesn’t mean you should give up,” Remus encouraged him.

“Moony…” James sighed.

“Try once more,” Remus begged him.

“For old time’s sake…”Sirius added.

“Alright, then,” he agreed reluctantly. James Potter stood up and began to take nervous strides towards the other side of the lake with his eyes on a certain green-eyed goddess.

Cause it's you and me and all of the people with nothing to do
Nothing to lose
And it's you and me and all of the people
And I don't know why, I can't keep my eyes off of you

He paused, standing fifteen feet from the group of girls. Lily’s back was to him as she talked animatedly with her friends. Then it happened: she turned around and faced him.

“What are you doing, Potter?” she asked airily. His heart felt like it was melting as her vibrant green eyes bore into his own hazel ones.

“I—“he fumbled for words. His mind had gone completely blank due to the smirk that the Lily wore upon her pink lips.

“Come on then, spit it out,” she pushed. James shifted uncomfortably, unable to say a word to the girl who had, unbeknownst to her, run off with his heart nearly three years ago.

“Well—“he stopped short once more. She gave him a scathing look before speaking again.

“At least school is almost out so I don’t have to put up with this anymore,” she told her friends. “If you have nothing to say then I’m leaving.”

All of the things that I want to say just aren't coming out right
I'm tripping on words
You've got my head spinning
I don't know where to go from here

Lily Evans turned away and gathered her things as her friends giggled over the scene before them. James blushed and began to ruffle his hair.

“I see old habits never die,” Lily scoffed as she turned back around. She then began to stalk past him towards the castle.

Cause it's you and me and all of the people with nothing to do
Nothing to prove
And it's you and me and all of the people
And I don't know why, I can't keep my eyes off of you

James watched her walk away and felt his heart sink to his knees. The girl he had liked for so long had once again refused him. He turned towards his friends and shrugged. To his surprise all three of them nodded their head in the direction of the retreating red head. He gathered up his courage once more.

“Lily!” James called after her. He began to run and noticed that she had stopped dead in her tracks. When he reached her she gave him a scared look.

“What did you call me, Potter?”

There's something about you now
I can't quite figure out

“Lily, you are such a mystery to me,” he confessed. She sighed and turned to leave again but he grabbed her wrist.

“Let go of me, Potter,” she hissed.

“It’s not that easy,” he told her. “You can’t leave until you’ve heard me out!”

“Fine,” she declared crossing her arms over her chest. “Continue.”

“No other girl has ever made me feel the way you do,” he admitted, “that’s what puzzles me.”

Everything she does is beautiful

Lily gave him a confused look and was about to speak when he started once more.

“You are the most gorgeous girl I’ve ever seen,” James spilled his heart out. “You could be awake for a week without any bloody makeup on and I would still say the same thing. Every time you walk into a room my heart leaps out of my chest.”

Everything she does is right

“You are the image of perfection that every guy dreams of,” he continued. “You’ve had my heart since day one. I—“ he tried to finish but came to a loss for words.

Lily felt tears begin to well up in her eyes. Never in her life had someone said such sweet things to her and now that someone was it had to be James Potter, the arrogant bully she had hated for years.

The other girls around them looked at James and sighed. There were many “how sweet’s” and “isn’t it romantic’s” heard spoken throughout the crowd. James was only focused on one thing, though: Lily.

Cause it's you and me and all of the people with nothing to do
Nothing to lose
And it's you and me and all of the people
And I don't know why, I can't keep my eyes off of you
And me and all of the people with nothing to do
Nothing to prove

“Please, Lily,” he begged, “give me a chance.” Lily watched this eighteen year old boy speak words that many grown men had never spoken.

“I don’t—“she paused as she watched tears gather in James’s eyes. Knowing that the boy she had always known to be smug and bigheaded was on the verge of tears himself made her own tears roll swiftly over her rosy cheeks.

And it's you and me and all of the people
And I don't know why, I can't keep my eyes off of you

“Don’t cry,” he said softly as he stepped forward and wiped her tears gently. Lily’s emerald green eyes looked into James’s hazel one and she gave him a small smile. It hurt her to think she had almost run out of time, much to her own amazement.

What day is it?
And in what month?
This clock never seemed so alive

“Okay, James,” she whispered, “go ahead and take your chance.”
