Chapter 30 Title: Starting Over IMPORTANT A/N! THE SEQUEL IS NOW UP (incomplete) Disclaimer: wow… my last one for this story I must savor it…. Siiigh…. Harry Potter is not mine… has never been mine…. And will never be mine RECAP “Well, Miss Jameson, it sounds like you’re trying to run away from your problems.” “And what exactly is wrong with that, sir? You hear people saying all the time ‘you can’t run away from your problems’, but I say why not? Why can’t I leave here and forget about everything and everyone?” Anna said choking back a sob. “If you believe leaving is the right thing for you to do, Mrs. Jameson, no one can stop you from making that decision. Only you can decide where your future lies. So, Miss Jameson, when do you wish to leave?” Anna thought to herself about all of her options, but no matter which way she looked at it, she could only see one answer to his question. It’s been a little over four months since Anna had that talk with Dumbledore. She made her decision, and she felt like it was the best decision she could make. Anna just finished her last NEWT yesterday and tomorrow she was done with school completely. “Hey, Anna, how do you think you did on Potions yesterday?” Anna’s newest and closest friend, Lena, asked her. “Pretty good; my last school prepared me a lot for Potions, and I’ve actually come to like the class as shocking as it sounds. How do you think you did, Lena?” “Meh, who cares? I mean I know that once I leave this place I’m not going to use potions for anything. Ok, well that might not be true, but I’d like to think it was.” Lena said with a laugh. Anna and Lena made their way down together to their last dinner ever laughing and joking around as usual. Anna wasn’t all too sad about finishing school for good. The only thing she was really going to miss would be hanging out with Lena every day. “Ok, well I’ll talk to you right after dinner babe,” Lena said giving Anna a sad smile then making her way over to the Ravenclaw table and Anna made her way over to the Gryffindor table for her last meal at Hogwarts ever. That’s right, Anna decided to stay at Hogwarts, but it was incredibly hard. For about a week after she made her decision, she was constantly dodging Hermione, Harry, Ron, and Draco. Finally after about two weeks of this, they gave up in trying to talk to her. Anna felt bad of course, but she figured that since she was going to go America, she didn’t want to leave heartbroken over Harry and upset about leaving Hermione and Ron. She didn’t really care about leaving Draco; he was the reason she was leaving after all. Anna believed every single word he told her, and that’s what scared her. Draco trying to save her parents because he loved her was just way too confusing for Anna. Harry, Ron, and Hermione didn’t seem to understand why she stopped talking to them. It seemed as if Ron didn’t care anymore and stopped trying to make an effort. Hermione always looked insanely distressed because her best friend was doing a good job of making sure she didn’t exist. Harry never gave up though. Every night at dinner he would go and sit by her, and they would eat together in silence. Sometimes he would talk to her, but she rarely answered back. Even if she did answer back, it would usually be in an answer that was just a couple of words. After about fifteen minutes, he would get up and go back to Ron and Hermione. Harry was making it very hard for Anna when it came to her thoughts of leaving, but that didn’t matter anymore, she was leaving tonight. Anna was one of the first to sit down at the Gryffindor table, and she sat in her normal seat that she had been sitting in for those past months. Anna sighed as she took one last look around the Great Hall. “No, Anna now is not the time to get emotional over this place. You are leaving tonight. You are flooing back to the states and you will finally be away from all of this drama.” Anna scolded herself under her breath. “Talking to your self now, I see.” Anna looked up and wasn’t surprised to see Harry talking the seat next to her. “I was not talking to myself.” Anna said stubbornly. “Ah! She speaks!” Harry said with mock shock. “Harry, I’m not in the mood to talk to you.” Anna said as she tried to ignore Harry and listen to Dumbledore’s end of the year speech as he congratulated Slytherin on winning the house cup. “Anne, you’re never in the mood to talk, but that never stops me from talking to you.” “Well, now would be a good time not to talk to me.” Anna said. “And why exactly is that?” Harry said raising his eyebrows as the food began to appear in front of them. Anna rolled her eyes before turning to face and look him directly in the eye, something she hadn’t done in months. “Do you honestly want to know why I don’t want you talking to me right now?” Anna snapped at him. “Well that would be my reason for asking.” “Because talking to me tonight would do you no good. I’m leaving tonight and you will probably never talk to me again!” “Whoa, wait what? What do you mean you’re leaving tonight? The train leaves tomorrow. Where are you going, and why am I probably never going to talk to you again?” Harry asked with a voice full of confusion. “I decided a couple of months ago that I’m going back to the states to live. I’m flooing to the apartment that bought about two weeks ago. I was really lucky to find that apartment; it’s for witches and wizards you know. And, well, you’re probably never going to talk to me again because you might never get to see me again.” Anna said refusing to let her eyes well up with tears. “Anna… why didn’t you tell me you were leaving?” Harry asked with shock covering his face. But Anna noticed that there was something more than shock on his face that looked a bit like sadness. “Because… I didn’t want you to try and stop me.” “Wow,” Harry muttered to himself as he ran a hand through his hair. “What’s wow?” Anna asked him. “I’m just surprised… and shocked… and…” “And what?” “I don’t know… I’m going to miss you though, Anna. Actually, I’m going to miss you a lot. Can I come and visit you?” He asked in a hopeful voice. “Sure,” she said with a small smile on her face. “Good, because I think I would go crazy if I never saw you again,” Harry said with a lopsided smile on his face that made Anna’s stomach flip. Anna blinked several times in hopes of preventing the tears that were about to come. “You know, Harry, you’re making this very hard for me. That’s why I stopped talking to you. I knew it was going to be hard for me to leave.” “But, I don’t understand why you’re leaving, Anna.” “When Malfoy told me what happened the night of my parents’ deaths… I was confused – very confused. He told me how he tried to save them… and then he told me he loved me,” Anna told him not caring that a few tears were starting to fall. “I’m not capable of handling with him and his love for me especially when I’m in love with… some one else. I knew that after he told me what happened he would want the two of us to be together again, but I can’t be with him. It’s been so hard for me to be here the last couple of months. I’ve stopped talking to everyone in hopes that my leaving would be somewhat easier to me, but as it gets closer and closer, I’m realizing that it is going to be extremely hard for me to leave.” “You don’t have to leave you know. School is over tomorrow, and you won’t have to see him anymore. You could come and stay with Hermione, Ron, and I like we talked about earlier this year. And what about that guy you just said you love? Won’t it be hard to leave tonight and leave him behind?” “It’s time for me to go home, Harry. You’re right; if I stay here I may never see Draco again after tomorrow, but if I go back to the states, I’ll be starting over and erasing all of the pain that I’ve had to go through while I’ve been here. And as for that guy… well, he’s made no attempt of showing me that he cares about me more than just a friend. So another reason for going back home is to get over him. I’ve come to realize that we just weren’t meant to be together.” As Anna finished talking to Harry, people were getting up all around them; apparently dinner was over. Anna looked up and saw a tearful Lena coming her way. The sight of her closest friend made Anna burst into tears completely. “Well… it looks like it’s time for you to go.” Harry said sadly. “Looks like it,” Anna said after taking a shaky deep breath. Anna stood up and gave Lena a hug. “Anna! I’m going to miss you so much! I hate you for leaving me like this!” Lena said through sobs. “Anna, where are you supposed to go right now?” Harry asked quietly. “My stuff is waiting for me in the Dumbledore’s office. I’m flooing out of there.” Anna said between sniffs. “Do you think we could go with you and see you off?” he asked. “Sure,” Anna said with a smile. Lena and Harry walked on either side of Anna. They passed people who looked at them oddly, but who could blame them? Anna and Lena both had tears streaming down their faces, and Harry looked as if he was losing his best friend. The three made it to Dumbledore’s office where Anna said the password, “Sugar quills.” Anna took a deep breath before standing on the rotating stairs with Lena and Harry behind her. “Ah, Anna, you’re here. Harry and Lena, what a lovely surprise! I’m guessing the two of you are here to give Miss Jameson a final good bye.” Dumbledore said when the three walked into his office. When Harry and Lena nodded, Dumbledore continued, “Good, good! Well, Miss Jameson, your trunk is right there beside the fire place. The floo powder is in that small flower pot. Once you have said your good byes you may be free of this place at last.” “Thank you, Professor, for everything.” Anna said giving the old man a smile. “It has been a great pleasure of having you here at Hogwarts, Anna. I dare say I will miss you. I wish you the best of luck in what ever life brings you.” Dumbledore replied with a twinkle in his eye. Anna gave him one last smile before turning to Lena. For a moment Anna just looked into Lena’s light blue eyes with out saying anything. Anna’s own green eyes filled with tears as she watched her friend’s eyes fill with tears. “You’re awesome, Lena. You’re such an amazing friend, and I’m sorry I have to leave you like this.” Anna said bringing her into a hug. “Anna, you have to promise me that you’ll write me every single day, and that we’ll visit each other all of the time! I’m going to miss you so much, Anna.” Lena said as she pulled out of the hug and looked at her friend. “I’ll only write you every day if you promise to write me every day,” Anna said with a laugh. “Duh,” Lena said smiling through her tears. “Friends forever, right?” “Right.” Anna gave Lena one last hug before she turned to Harry. “I’ll see you around then, Anna.” “Is that all you’re going to say to me, Harry?” Anna said softly as she took a step closer to him. “Not even close,” Harry said with a smile. “Anna, I’m going to miss you so much. I honestly still don’t understand why you think you have to leave, but do what you think is right. If you think that leaving all of your friends and all of the people who care about you behind is the right thing to do, then I guess it is. And if you think leaving me behind is the right thing to do, then I think you should leave now. I think that if you want to leave me behind and you think that it’s the right thing to do, you need to leave before I tell you something that would be stupid for me to tell you because you’re leaving tonight. I thought I would have more time to tell you but now you’re leaving and –” “Harry, you’re rambling and not making much sense.” Anna interrupted him. “Sorry,” he said with an embarrassed smile as he looked down at his shoes. When he looked up, Anna was looking at him with an intense stare. “Harry, I have to go.” Anna said simply. Anna walked away from Harry and closer to the fireplace until she was right in front of it. She took a handle of her trunk in one hand and a pinch of floo powder in another. Anna took a deep breath before she walked into the fireplace bringing her trunk with her. Anna looked at Harry one last time and said, “And for the record, I’m going to miss you too Harry.” Anna then threw the floo powder down and yelled, “Apartment number 16, Jefferson Street.” The green flames engulfed Anna and took her away from Hogwarts. In that final moment before the whirlwind of flames took her, she was able to take one last look at the sad faces on all three of the faces that were in Dumbledore’s office. A few silent moments passed in Dumbledore’s office before Harry was able to say, “I can’t believe she actually gone.” “Me neither,” Lena sighed. “Well, I’ve still got to pack a few things before tomorrow… and I think I’m going to go write her a letter telling her how much I miss her already and she’s only been gone all of two minutes. I’ll see you tomorrow I guess, Harry. Bye Professor,” Lena said with tears still streaming down her face. “Bye, Lena,” Harry muttered and Dumbledore smiled to her. Lena walked out of the office leaving Harry and Dumbledore alone. “Harry, I think you should have told her,” Dumbledore said quietly. “But there is no need to fret! You have all the time in the world to tell her how you feel, and you can always go and visit her.” “Don’t worry, Professor. I will.” Harry said. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Anna landed with a great thud on the floor causing her to get a big carpet burn from the bright orange carpet that covered the floor clashing with the hot pink walls. “Bloody hell…I don’t remember the colors being this terrible when I looked at this place.” Anna took out her wand and after changing the colors several times, she finally settled on light blue and white making the apartment look much more tolerable and friendly. Since Anna wasn’t tired, she unpacked for a while. Although she could have used her wand, she preferred to go through everything she owned and figure out where to put things. She realized that she would need to go shopping the next day and buy all sorts of pots and pans and all sorts of other things. As she was going through her things she found the photo album that Hermione gave her for Christmas. Even though Anna thought she couldn’t cry any more, the tears filled up in her eyes and she looked through the pictures. “Bloody hell, what have I done?” Anna muttered softly to herself.
