Chapter 3- Passwords and Confessions Author’s Note: Hello everyone! I would have updated sooner but my life has been hectic this past week. I have been forced to be a back-up for my sister if she isn’t able to go to her job on certain days. Oh joy. So yesterday I was running all around town trying to get a social security card, and then a state I.D. Yeah, it wasn’t pretty. Anyway my banner was created by the wonderful BitterEpiphany! Here’s a shout out to all of my friends on HPANA! Hi! Haha And especially to *you* (she know’s I’m talking to her), if you give away that critical information I swear I will change it! Chao! Disclaimer: I own nothing. What are you going to do, right? ************************************************************************ Passwords and Confessions Re-cap- “Mr. Malfoy has already arrived here, at Hogwarts, and will be staying before the term starts.” Dumbledore paused at this but kept going. “I want you all to be civil towards each other and keep your behavior in check.” “And Harry, Mr. Malfoy has changed. I don’t know if it was for the better or for the worse yet. So tread-lightly around him and don’t be foolish,” Dumbledore said warningly. He then stood up and went the door with Harry in his footsteps, even more dumbstruck and bewildered than after the dream. ************************************ Dumbledore walked out of his office with a dazed Harry in his wake. Ron looked searchingly at Harry and got a look of dread in return. The group began walking through different corridors to what they presumed was the Head’s common room. Harry whispered, “Malfoy.” under his breath to Ron. Ron’s face turned from pure confusion to revulsion. Who the Head Boy was, was finally clear. Ron strode over to Harry and started muttering quickly, “Malfoy and Head Boy should never be in the same sentence. I don’t know what Dumbledore is playing at but whatever it is-“ “What?! Malfoy is the Head Boy?” Ginny interrupted her older brother. “Yes, but keep it down!” “Listen,” Harry began, “Dumbledore wants me to tell Hermione about Malfoy.” Ron looked to be calculating whether or not Hermione would cry or scream when she found out about Malfoy. Ginny’s face showed pure concern as she spoke. “If you must, I would wait until she has had some rest. Another blow like this could do some serious damage.” “Alright, I’ll wait until tomorrow.” Harry said reluctantly. “But don’t you think she will be mad at us for not telling her?” “Trust me,” Ginny said, “She will appreciate it later.” They suddenly stopped in front of a large stone gargoyle. Harry looked across from it and saw another ugly, stone gargoyle. This gargoyle in particular, led up to Professor Dumbledore’s office. “Hermione,” Dumbledore started, “this is the Head Boy’s and your own common room. You each have your own sleeping quarters and bathrooms. Any questions?” Hermione shook her head. Dumbledore shot the slightest glance at Harry and continued, “The password is Amor Vincit Omnia.” (Author’s Note: That means ‘Love Conquers All.’) The gargoyle sprang to the side, allowing a passage way to be seen. “Your room will be to the right. You are allowed to choose a password to your bedroom. Just walk up to the door and say ‘the password is-’ and the password of your choice. Dinner will be served tonight at 5:00 in the Great Hall.” With that Dumbledore departed and left Harry, Ginny, Ron, and Hermione standing in silence. “Do you want us to leave Mione? We will do whatever you want-“ Ron said nervously. “Actually, yeah, that would be great. I just need a little rest. I’ll see you at 5:00 in the Great Hall.” They all nodded, understanding how she felt. Harry gave Hermione one last quick hug and the Trio left. Hermione sighed and walked into the common room. Despite what happened, she gasped in amazement. On the far wall was a large, roaring fire with windows on either side. Directly in front of the fireplace was a large black couch with silver and maroon pillows accentuating it nicely. On one wall were two large desks with parchment and quills arranged neatly. On the opposite wall were two French doors. Hermione walked over to them and opened them quietly. She stepped out onto a quaint balcony that was overlooking the Quidditch Pitch. She breathed in the fresh scent of air and watched as several owls circled around the Owlery Tower. Hermione closed the doors to the balcony and preceded to what she presumed was her bedroom. And then, she heard it. A soft, male voice singing one of her favorite songs. “I walk a lonely road The only one I that have ever known Don't know were it goes But its home to me and I walk alone I walk this empty street On the Boulevard of broken dreams Where the city sleeps And I'm the only one and I walk alone I walk alone I walk alone I walk alone I walk a... My shadows the only one that walks beside me My shallow hearts the only thing that's beating Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me Till then I walk alone Ah-Ah Ah-Ah Ah-Ah Ahhh Ah Ah-Ah Ah-Ah Ah-Ah I'm walking down the line That divides me somewhere in my mind On the border line of the edge And were I walk alone Read between the lines of what's Fucked up and every things all right Check my vital signs to know I'm still alive And I walk alone I walk alone I walk alone I walk alone I walk a... My shadows the only one that walks beside me My shallow hearts the only thing that's beating Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me Till then I walk alone Ah-Ah Ah-Ah Ah-Ah Ahhh Ah Ah-Ah Ah-Ah walk alone I walk a... I walk this empty street On the Boulevard of broken dreams Were the city sleeps And I'm the only one and I walk a.. My shadows the only one that walks beside me My shallow hearts the only thing that's beating Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me Till then I'll walk alone!” (Author’s Note: “Boulevard of Broken Dream” is by Green Day.) She quietly sang along with the perfectly pitched voice, matching hers to it exactly. The voice was the opposite of flat; it rose where it was supposed to and then went down to the required notes. The voice was so full of emotion it was unreal. You could just sense the sadness generating from the room. Hermione had to admit, the voice had talent. And that is when she realized where the voice was coming from. Hermione looked at the door to the Head Boy’s room. On the door was a green serpent twisting around a silver snake. The two snakes formed a circle and in the center of them 'D.M.' was engraved directly onto the door. Hermione pondered what D.M. meant and quickly stood up when she was knocked out of her reverie by a noise in the Head Boy’s room. She quickly and quietly made her way to the door on the right. On the door was a large lion with a body of rich gold and a mane of maroon. The lion’s jaws were opened wide and in the middle was 'H.G.' Hermione thought back to what Dumbledore said about the password. She clearly stated, “The password is: Virtus.” (Author’s Note: Virtus is Latin for courage. My sister translated them for me by the way.) Hermione stepped into the room and gasped. The room had to at least be 30 feet by 30. There were red and gold carpets tastefully arranged around the room. On the largest rug of all, was a magnificent four poster bed. The sheets were of a beautiful gold silk and there was a luxurious red comforter with the Hogwarts crest emblazoned on the top. There were different shades of gold pillows by the headboard that also bore the Hogwarts crest. Her trunk was already stationed at the foot of the bed. There was a large armoire directly across from the bed and a vanity to the left of it. A large six foot mirror was on the wall next to another door. Hermione crept to the door and turned the handle and was amazed at what she saw. It was a huge bathroom that was immaculately clean. Everything was a glistening white. The pool sized tub had white tiles and the several taps were the same color. She also had a shower in the corner of the room. There was a towel rack next to the counter where the sink was. The towels were again, white, but had H.G. embossed in gold. Hermione walked out of the bathroom and into her new bedroom. She laid down on the soft sheets and shuffled under the warm comforter. She then cried herself to sleep. Draco Malfoy approached the ugly gargoyle and said, “Amor Vincit Omnia.” Love Conquers All. Now if that isn’t a lie then I don’t know what is. He stepped into the common room and made his way to his room. He stepped in front of his door and said, “Miserum Amarit.” Now that’s more like it, Draco thought. Wretched Love. Draco went into his room and laid down on his green and silver bed. He thought, This is going to be a hell of a long year. Out of no where he sang one of his favorite songs. “I walk a lonely road The only one that I have ever known….” He finished the song in confusion. He could have sworn he heard an echo.
