Chapter 1: For she walks alone
[Printer Friendly Version of This Chapter]

Cassiope wasn't pretty. That much she knew. She had an hourglass body and she was very curvy. She had high cheekbones and big almond-shaped brown eyes. She had plump lips, the only thing she was proud of on her, olive skin and long black hair.

She was fourteen years old and a witch. She lived in a god-forsaken country but every year, she would take a portkey to London on the 31st of August. She would wait overnight in Kings Cross station and the next morning she would jump on the train to Hogwarts.

Cassiope had a dad from Britain and a mum from Greece. Her dad was dead as far as she knew and her mum had abandoned her in an orphanage once she showed the first traits of magic. She was afraid of her because she was a Muggle. She learned that when Dumbledore came to give her her letter when she was eleven. He had told her that when they were roaming Diagon Alley for her school supplies.

After her first year in Hogwarts, she didn't want to come back to the orphanage. So she chose to run away where her mother was born. She chose to move into a cabin that her grandfather had built on the mountain of Zaloggos. The cabin was small and dirty. Her grandpa was a bishop and the cabin was where he used to put his sheep during winter. But with her love and care, it had turned into a little paradise. Yes, she had to wash herself in a stream nearby but that didn't bother her. She was invisible and she liked that. And her talent in making Polyjuice allowed her to visit the village down below without people noticing the lonely little girl.

So, on the 31st of August, early in the morning, Cassiope had packed her trunk with her few belongings on a thestral and she had begun her journey to Athens. She was flying high, above the clouds so nobody could spot her. She loved flying but she would never try to play Quidditch. She wanted to remain invisible.

When she reached the outskirts of Athens, she landed in a small forest in Chaidari where she took her trunk and then pulled a steak out of her bag and gave it to her thestral as a thank you for its long journey. She had discovered that thestral last year and after that, it was always waiting for her.

She raised her wand and the Bus of Armatolon, like the Knight Bus in London, appeared. It took her to the train station of Syntagma where the YPMA* was. YPMA was the ministry of Magic in Greece. It was the only place where she could travel with a legal way to Kings Cross but she still hated it, because of that stupid form. Mother's name: Alexandra Couroupi. Father's name: Unknown. It was painful.

When she landed on the platform 9 and 3/4 it was late at night and the dim lights didn't give her much comfort. Cassiope approached a bench and opened her trunk. She pulled out a small cushion and a blanket and laid there, waiting for sleep to take her. Although, something was bothering her. She had that feeling that someone was watching her from afar. Lifting herself up and she heard a soft sound of footsteps. Immediately, she pointed her wand in the direction of the sound but the only thing she saw was a huge black dog approaching her with its tongue hanging. She waved her hand and the dog came closer. Ruffling its fur, giving one of her rare smiles, she noticed that the dog was very thin.

She opened her bag and found the sandwich she had kept for her trip to Hogwarts. She pulled out the ham and gave it to the dog. Cassiope ate the rest of the sandwich and when she finished, the dog licked her face. She folded the foil that she had used to wrap the sandwich into a ball and threw it as far as she could. Immediately, the dog darted to the direction of the ball. It caught it with its mouth and brought it back to her. They played a little bit more until Cassiope felt sleepy. She took her old tattered cloak and after motioning the dog to lay beside her on the bench she used it to cover the poor thing. She spread her tired body over the bench and covered herself with the blanket. Summer was much warmer in Greece and she was feeling cold. Mingling her fingers to the beast's fur, she thought happily that at least tonight, she won't be alone.

When she opened her eyes in the morning, hearing the first voices filing the platform 9 and 3/4, she realized that she was alone.

A man apparated in a cave. He wore rugs and he was dirty. His long black hair was greasy and his skin looked like it was made of wax. He was so thin that you could see the traits of his skull but the worst thing on him was the crazy look in his eyes full of despair.

For a moment he looked around disoriented and he choked back a sob once he saw the old man standing in the corner. He had a very long silver beard and he was wearing semi-cycled glasses at the end of his long nose. His face was the epitome of calmness and sympathy but when the rugged man saw him, he pointed his wand between the man's eyes.

''You said she was okay! You said that you will provide for her! She was alone! In an empty platform at night!'' he screamed just before burying his face in his hands, murmuring ''She is just a little girl...'' over and over again.

The old man waited a few moments for the other man to calm himself. Once he was able to lift his head, Albus Dumbledore decided it was his time to talk. ''She has inherited your pride. She never asks more than she is needed. She never asks for help either. She asked me once how she could communicate without talking. After that she never approached me again'' he said while folding his hands in front of his chest.

''You mean sh... She can not talk?'' the other man stutter.

''Unfortunately, no. I offered her my help. I offered to take her to St. Mungo's but she denied. If it was anything physical, there isn't a way that we wouldn't be able to fix her. I think it is something else... What do you know about her mother? Have you met her family?''

''Some things... Alexandra... I think she was a Muggle-born. She could do magic but on a very primal level like a child. She never attended a wizard's school though. She was beautiful and sweet and she loved to sing. She had an eerie calmness and it was like she was locked in her own little world. I met her when I was trying to reach Albania. Remember? You wanted to learn about Voldemort's whereabouts. She was living in a small Muggle village on a mountain. I've met her father. He was definitely a Muggle. He told me once to always keep her happy because otherwise bad things will happen. I didn't understand his words because he was speaking in Greek but back in Athens, I asked a friend to translate them.  Alexandra didn't speak English either. But she was something like a reverse Legimens. She could saw you the thoughts in her head.''

''Were you there when Alexandra gave birth?''

''No, I was looking for a Muggle doctor. They weren't any healers or magical communities close by, but I know that when I returned, her father was lying dead on the floor. Cassiope was in her arms, but she wasn't crying. For a whole year that I was with them, she never did. I thought something was wrong with her because she could make sounds and say baby words. When Harry was a baby he used to scream on the top of his lungs when he was crying.'' the man finished seeming much calmer.

Albus Dumbledore muttered ''Interesting...'' and fell in deep thoughts.

''How... How is she in school Dumbledore? How does she manage to do spells without talking?''

The old man's eyes light up in this question and a small kind smile appeared in his face. ''She is something else. She managed NonVerbal spells on her first day. I don't know how! There are adults that aren't able to work with them. At the end of her first year, she forged my signature to gain access to the Restricted Section in the library. She made Polyjuice Sirius. I couldn't believe it and believe you me that I've seen a lot in my life. She is the best student in her year but nobody knows. She doesn't acknowledge her teachers and she tries to stay hidden... She has no friends, but no one bullies her.''

''But why? I don't understand... What should I do Dumbledore? She is my daughter. She is my daughter and I was never able to help her. Where is her mother? What happened to Alexandra? Where does Cassiope live?'' questioned the rugged man while burying his face in his hands again.

''Those are sad questions Sirius that I don't know If you really want to know the answers. Some of them don't fully know but I shall answer as far as I can.''

''Tell me... Please...'' Sirius begged.

''They were living in their house in the village for five years... I don't know what happened but Alexandra chose to leave Cassiope in an orphanage. Then she disappeared. I was never able to find what happened to her. Cassiope was five. When I found her, she wasn't surprised to find that she was a witch. She tried to tell me at first that she didn't want to come to Hogwarts because she was dangerous. Something that I was never able to explain. After her first year, she didn't return to the orphanage though. She chose to go back to her village but also to isolate herself on the shack that her grandfather made on the mountain. That's all I know... Did she hope to find her mother? She has that idea in her head that she needs to stay away from people? I was never able to use Legimency with her.''

''She lives alone? In a shack? On a mountain? For three months? Every year? ARE YOU KIDDING ME DUMBLEDORE? HOW DID YOU LET THAT HAPPENED?'' Sirius screamed on top of his lungs. Some bats flew out of the cave scared.

''Sirius, we both know that I couldn't treat her more than a simple student without revealing to everyone who her father is. Without having people submitting her to tests regards to her nature. I swear to you though that I was always watching her... And I am proud of her.  She is using Polyjuice to transform into an older woman so she will be able to work. I 've never seen anything like her.''

''Oh Merlin...'' the other man sobbed. ''I need to do something Dumbledore. I want to provide for her what I couldn't. I want to know her... I want to be the father that I didn't have the chance to be.''

''Then Sirius it's never too late. If you love your daughter, you will find a way. I am sorry that I wasn't able to tell you who she was last year. I didn't know. I am sure you would have acted sooner as you did with Harry if you knew.''

''It's never too late. You are right... But we have to bring her close to Harry. So she won't know much. But as his friend, I will be able to be close to her as I am with him.''

''Wrong road of thoughts Sirius... Think about it again before you act.'' said the old man and disapparated.

As soon as the train stopped on the platform, Cassiope jumped at the last wagon choosing a compartment all by herself. She knew that no one will sit with her so she spread her legs on the seats and she pulled out her new potions book preparing herself for some relaxing time. She had owled Flourish and Blotts to send her a parcel with her new books. She was able to hear children's voices outside, parents saying goodbye... She focused on her book until the compartment's door swang open and a fair girl walked in.

''Hi, can I sit with you? Everything else seems full.'' her voice was eerie she noticed with a pang in her heart like hers... She nodded affirmatively and the girl sat at the opposite seats.

''I am Luna by the way. Luna Lovegood'' said and took her hand out for a shake. She was the first person to introduce herself to her in three years. She looked at her hand and after a moment she shook it looking outside the window.

''Well, what is your name? Did I annoy you? I am sorry.'' Cassiope widened her eyes in surprise and hurried to open her book on the front page where her name was written in small calligraphic letters.

''So you are Cassiope Culuriote? Which house are you on? Gryffindor? Because if you were in Ravenclaw I would've known you. You don't look like a Slytherin at all and since you are alone, I guess you are not a Hufflepuff either.'' Cassiope nodded at that and then she turned back in her book. Several moments later, Luna took her book from her hands and shove it to the seat next to her.

''Do you want to play wizard's chess?'' she said pulling a chessboard and a bag of pawns from her bag. Cassiope eyed her curiously. She had never played wizard's chess but she was good at the Muggle chess. Luna prepared the chessboard without waiting for an answer and motioned Cassiope to start with the white with a smile.  And that is how they reached Hogwarts.

They separated when they entered the Great Hall. Luna said that they should do it another time again but Cassiope turned her head and waved. She will never see her again. That far she knew. She didn't pay much attention to what Dumbledore said. She was famished and couldn't wait to get into her warm bed. Whatever it was that he said wasn't much of importance to her.

When she left the Great Hall, she was deep in her thoughts about her time with Luna. Her voice was almost the same as hers and it was painful. At least she wouldn't bother to approach her again. This time she just didn't have a compartment to stay. Her train of thoughts though was stopped suddenly as she bumped onto someone. She looked up and saw that it was Harry Potter.

''Watch where you going!'' he snapped and turned back to see who fell on him. ''Well aren't you going to apologize at least?''

On that Cassiope nodded while looking down. She felt her cheeks blushing from shame.

''Don't you talk?'' he asked curiously.  Cassiope took out her wand and conjured ribbons that turned on the air and created the word ''No''.

''Then I am sorry for snapping'' he said and turned to follow his redhead friend Ron Weasly. Before he was out of reach though, Cassiope tapped his back and asked with her ribbons about the password to the door behind the Fat Lady.  He smiled and leaned close to her hear and told her. Then he proceeded to walk with his friends. As they were climbing on the stairs, Cassiope heard Weasly say, ''Who was she? Is she new?''

Harry laughed awkwardly' and said ''No, she is in our year. She sleeps next to Hermione. She is the only person that takes higher grades than her. How haven't you notice her? We are with her in every class!''

Cassiope didn't want to hear anymore. She closed her eyes as panic raised in her chest. She was noticed. People talk to her. No, no, no...

Chapter 2: A father's letter
[Printer Friendly Version of This Chapter]

Cassiope woke at the sound of something breaking. She stood up with a jolt, grabbing her want from under her pillow where she put it last night. After blinking several times, she noticed Hermione Granger sitting in front of the one and only vanity mirror in their dorm with a brush broken on her tangled hair. The girl was frustrated and seemed like she was ready to cry on her effort to remove the broken part of her brush from her hair. Cassiope sighed and after wiping her face in frustration herself she searched in her stuff and pulled out a silver engraved brush. She walked to Hermione and handle it to her. She moved her wand onto the air and her familiar ribbon appeared. ''Enchanted. It was my mother's put it under my pillow when you are done.'' After that she walked to the bathroom to shower and wash her teeth before breakfast.

Hermione had done as she was told. She put the brush under Cassiope's pillow alongside a small note. Thank you, it was very kind of you-H. Cassiope brushed her hair too and after putting her robes on, she left for the Great Hall. She sat at the far end of the Gryffindor table. She pulled some eggs end bacon on her plate and start eating the moment the owls bursted through the windows with the morning mail. Cassiope didn't bat an eyelid though and kept eating. Who would write to her? But she was far from being right when a giant owl landed in front of her with a letter at its beak. Cassiope eyed it curiously. It was like she was having a stare competition with the bird. That was until the owl left the letter in front of her, ruffled its feathers, and flew to the window.  At least she won the competition.

Professor McGonagall handed her schedule and Cassiope nodded in thank you after putting it in her bag. The professor left and Cassiope was looking at the letter as if it was a howler ready to explode. She sipped some orange juice while picking it up and turning to see from whom it was. She read four words and the orange juice sprayed out from her mouth choking her. Coughing she tried to hide the letter in her robes. Professor McGonagall came back frustrated and muttered ''Rennervate''. The cough stopped and Cassiope not even bothered with a nod as a thank you, she ran out of the Great Hall. She climbed the steps two by two until she reached the second-floor girls' bathroom. She locked the door behind her and went into a stool and closed the door. Only then, Moaning Myrtle appeared from the wall.

''Good morning Cassiope!'' the otherwise sad ghost said cheerfully to the girl. ''Aren't you supposed to be in the class by now? Not that I mind since I am usually alone in this stool. But you never missed a lesson.''

Cassiope looked at her with watered eyes and Myrtle put a hand on her shoulder immediately. She felt like a bucket of water was splashed on her but she didn't move. Myrtle was one of the few people even if dead that she could call a friend. The only person that she could talk to since she was dead and no harm could come over her. Cassiope pulled the letter from her robes and opened her mouth feeling her throat a bit hoarse of the lack of use.

''Myrtle, my father... He sent me a letter... I thought he was dead... But here look, I have his letter...''

''Well what are you waiting for? Opened it! You never knew if he was indeed dead. You just assumed so. The bloke might have a good explanation though because I can't wait to leave this lavatory and hunt his arse back where he came from...'' That is why Cassiope liked Myrtle. The ghost was sad about her life she lived and the life she hadn't had the chance to live. She felt the same and she knew that Myrtle only needed someone to listen to her. Then she showed her true nature, a fierce friend. She had no time though to absorb her gratitude over Moaning Myrtle's stance. With trembling hands, she opened the envelope with the four words From Father to Daughter and pulled out the letter.

My dearest Daughter,

how much you have grown. From a quiet baby you became a young loving lady that found it in her heart to be kind to a stray animal. I am sorry for writing to you after thirteen years that you haven't seen me. I am sorry for not being able to be there for you for so long. But please don't judge a father for being proud of his daughter.

I know though that the sorries of the world are not enough to describe what I am feeling or more, what you are feeling. Don't feel neglected Daughter. I always had you in my mind and heart. I always kept the lock from your soft hair with me. I always kept a photo of you in your mother's arms. I had included it in the envelope for you to see that I am truly your father.

I don't know how to start my dear Cassiope. I cannot even meet you yet. For I am afraid that you would be ashamed of who your father is. But know, Daughter, that now that I can at least write to you, I will do it, as often as I can and I'll never stop, even if you throw every single one of my letters in the fire. I am sorry if I am distressing you, but even now that I have the chance, I want to be your father.

With all my love,

Your Father

P.S. I love the fact that your mother kept the name I chose for you. It's a great ancient magical community close to where you were born and a beautiful constellation.

Cassiope didn't know if the man that wrote that letter was truly her father. But she had to admit that there were ruins of an ancient magical community near to where she was born with the same name as hers. And her name was a constellation, but this was something that anyone with some common knowledge of Astronomy could use it on her. But what about the town? Nobody except Dumbledore and the other professors knew that she was born in a small village in Greece. And if he was her father, where was he all these bloody years? And what is this damned S.O.B? Couldn't have at least the courtesy to write his name?

She couldn't stand her thoughts anymore. The questions were swirling in her mind giving her a strong headache. Her heart was beating rapidly in her chest. The photo of her and her mother fell from the envelope and Cassiope gasped. There she was, in her mother's arms. Her mother was smiling widely looking at the camera and then back to her. Her long white-blond hair was braided on the side and she was wearing a floral sundress. Her, the baby in her arms was smiling widely while eating a biscuit.

A sob escaped her mouth and tears filled her eyes. A mourning scream left her mouth and the ground shook. Some mirrors blasted, throwing glasses everywhere. Water exploded from the toilets as her mourns continued. Myrtle though, unafraid, stood in front of her and put her hands on her shoulders again. The cold feeling was enough for Cassiope to stop sobbing but not for her tears to stop and her breath coming out short.

''Cassiope listen to me. We've been through this before. Go with me.'' she said and Cassiope looked at her sniffing. Myrtle began to sing and Cassiope started to follow on the Irish song the ghost had taught her.

''Do casadh cailín deas orm in uaigneas na dtrá
Ar lúb na coille glaise uair bheag roim lá.
Sin an fhreagar’ ó a thug sí liom go ciúin agus go tláth

Tá an saol ‘na gcoladh, bogaimís an súisín bán!''

The room stopped shaking. Everything subsided and Cassiope closed her eyes. Outside of the bathroom a fair boy with stormy grey eyes stopped to listen to that beautiful voice that came from inside. He was late for class. He had forgotten his book for that idiot Hagrid's lesson. But on that voice, he couldn't keep walking. He couldn't move. Like his feet had their mind of their own, they brought him to the source of that voice.

''‘S má bhíonn tú liom bí liom, a stóirín mo chroí,
‘S má bhíonn tú liom bí liom os comhair a’ tí,
Má bhíonn tú liom, ‘s gur liom gach órlach ded’ chroí,
‘Sé mo mhíle chnoc nách liom Dé Domhnaigh tú mar mhnaoi!''

Draco felt a great sorrow feeling this beautiful voice sing so sadly. His legs betrayed him and he felt falling on his knees. Who sings like that? Who feels such sorrow? He wept his hair at the back and stood. He wasn't the one to care when someone was sad but that voice... He just couldn't let her be so sad. With trembling feet, he tried to open the door softly but it was locked. With a voice that felt strange in his mouth, he muttered Alohomora and pushed the door. The sight in front of him could belong in a chapter of biblical disaster. Shattered mirrors everywhere. The water was flooding the room and pieces of the walls where on the surface. He moved carefully at the one and only closed stool. Before pushing the door, he pulled out a handkerchief from his pocket. Slightly he pushed the door open just a crack to see a girl in his age with tear stains on her face and closed eyes, singing like her life was depended on the sounds that were coming from her mouth. Moaning Myrtle, the ghost was standing in front of her giving her the rhythm.

He didn't want to scare her so from the small crack he had created he pushed the handkerchief inside close to her face. The song was done and Cassiope opened her eyes suddenly to see a handkerchief in front of her nose. She gasped in surprise in that sign of kindness and her eyes started watering again. Myrtle took that as her sign to leave. Draco pushed the door open in the sound of more tears coming and used the small piece of cloth to wipe the girls face tenderly.

''Please don't cry... Everything will go well... Please don't cry...'' he said desperately under his breath. He felt as he was about to cry too. And that was not allowed. He helped the girl stand up and guided her to the sink. He let the water flow and then he wetted the cloth and put it on the girl's face. Her eyes opened slowly and they were bloodshot red. His heart skipped a bit when he saw that her irises were a beautiful amber brown.

''See? Now you are beautiful again.'' he tried to joke as the girl kindly smiled at him. She moved to the stool that she was before and picked up her bag, hiding her father's letter at the same time. She checked her program and saw that she has missed Herbology in the first period and that she had to run to Care of Magical Creatures if she wanted to make it there on time. She got out of the stool and she waved to Draco, of course, she knew his name and turned on her heel to leave.

''Hey! Wait! What's your name?'' but Cassiope didn't return on his call. She wanted to remain invisible. It was better for everyone.

She ran out of the main entrance and took the way that leads to Hagrid's Hut. Students were around some boxes where small fires were erupting once in a while. She came in time to hear Hagrid say ''Blast-ended skrewts!'' Oh my God, what other thing had Hagrid in his mind again? She moved upfront to see an abomination. She narrowed her eyes on Hagrid accusingly. People shouldn't be messing with nature she wanted to scream but she moved on the back and zoned out until she heard Draco's Malfoy voice complaining sarcastically once more. He was so different from the boy in the toilet now.

Hagrid offered them a variety of different foods to try on the blast-ended skrewts. She picked some frog's livers and started throwing them around in the boxes. The moment Dean Thomas complained about a skrewt burning him, she felt the burning herself by another one. But she didn't mind. It was the only thing that was real, that was feeling real. So no sound left her mouth. Not even a small gasp. Draco although saw that and decide to start complaining and bickering with Hermione Granger. Oh, if they could just stop for once.

After the lesson was off, she headed back to the castle behind the others. Unfortunately, she wasn't the only one that had stayed behind to avoid the crowd. Draco Malfoy grabbed her hand, making her wince. Ηe spooned her around but once he saw the pained expression on her face he dropped her hand.

''I am sorry. I saw what happened there. Why didn't you say anything? He hasn't any right to expose you to something dangerous!''

Cassiope drew her wand from her robes and tapped it on the air. Life is dangerous. He didn't do anything that won't happen to us sooner or later... he read. Why is she denying to talk to him? Maybe because you go to the same classes for three years with her and you never had the courtesy to ask her her name. You haven't even noticed her. A small voice in his head chirped.

''Can you at least tell me your name?'' he said with a desperate look on his face, but Cassiope just nodded negatively, turned on her heel and started running towards the entrance. Her heart was beating fast in her chest. That wasn't supposed to happen. Soon, he will start to ask her questions. She had to make her life's mission to avoid Draco Malfoy at any cost, she thought as she was entering the Great Hall for lunch.

She sat again in her corner with her back at the Slytherin table. She put some roasted lamb and potatoes on her plate and began eating quickly. Suddenly, she flinched. The hair on the back of her neck stood in attention and she felt a pair of eyes burning holes on her back. Immediately, she knew to whom they belong to and she left the rest of her food intact. Grabbing her bag on the way, she stormed out of the Great Hall to the Library, where she had a meeting with McGonagall at the end of the lunch break.

Cassiope instead of Divination, Muggle Studies, Ancient Runes or Arithmancy, was offered a different course to study last year. She was studying Ancient Magic. She was working with Dumbledore and other professors from around the world on recording and analyzing scripts of Ancient Magic. Ancient Magic had a history and moreover, it was based on the person's energy and nature to show itself. Instead of having a wand to direct your magical energy in doing your bidding, you had to use your own body for that. Cassiope, was thrilled when Dumbledore offered her that proposition. Ancient Magic was still famous in some places and more surprising, Greece.

McGonagall gave one a small smile when she stopped and she showed her a pack with letters from other professions from around the world. Cassiope took no time in pulling out a quill and parchment and she started writing down notes from every single letter. Later she would put them in order and do some research of her own in the Restricted Section to where she finally had real permission to use. She was thrilled to work on something so interesting! That was until she found something that made her jaw drop on the ground...

Author's Note:

Hello there to the few and precious people that are reading my book! Does anyone have a clue about what Cassiope is? What her mother was? Do you like this other side of Draco? If so, please write it on the reviews. It's my first attempt to write in English and moreover a novel! I usually write poems or plays in Greek. So be kind and tell me your opinion on my work and help me improve myself.

Again, much love!

Chapter 3: Searching
[Printer Friendly Version of This Chapter]

Cassiope opened one letter from the pile that came from her homeland in Greece. She read the content with her eyes opening wider after every paragraph. She let the letter drop on the table and zoned out for a few moments looking at some bookshelves. Hermione Granger was studying at the table next to her. Books about houselves were spread everywhere around her. She opened a very dusty book and sneezed and that was the time when she noticed Cassiope sitting unmoved with her mouth open and her eyes nailed at the empty space between two bookshelves. Hermione filled with curiosity, stood up, and touched Cassiope on the shoulder.

''Cassiope are you alright? You seem a bit unfazed...'' she said in a low voice. She didn't want Madame Pince to throw her out.

In the sound of someone else's voice and touch on her shoulder, Cassiope jumped in surprise and nodded quickly at Hermione that she was alright. Hermione hesitated a few moments, but she got the message that Cassiope wanted to stay alone with her notes. She briefly got some words like Ancient Magic and Josef Mengele. Why Cassiope was reading about such a horrible Muggle person? What does he have to do with Ancient Magic? Her curiosity was picked but soon she decided that she had more important things to search for and locked her thoughts in the back of her mind. Cassiope once she saw that Hermione had bend over her books and notes again, she picked up the letter again and started re-reading the letter in Greek.

Dear Miss Culuriote,

I am sad to hear that a student with your curiosity and academic stature chose to attend a wizarding school outside of our lovely country. I checked with the YPMA though to see that your name wasn't recorded in our list as a magical child. It was though in the Ministry of Magic in Britain.

Besides my bitterness on that fact, I decided to help you with your research on Ancient Magic as something we Greeks still practice on some level. Inside this envelope you will find records of rituals of Ancient Magic and some recorded spells. Alongside these records you will find a copy of a page that belongs in my personal collection. This page was part of the journal of the known explorer and researcher Antony Fraser. He disappeared on the 23rd of July 1967 from the town of Preveza and was found three months later close to the Necromancy temple of Acheron. The only thing that he had on him was this page in one of his pockets.

On that page, you will find mentions of the Sanctuary of Delphi. The notes were written in 1967. These days the Sanctuary is used as a school for postgraduate studies on Divination and the high-oracle is Ypatia. You can contact her if you need more information.

I hope that you will spend some time in a future meeting and cooperation.

Best regards,

Demosthenes Alexiades

Headmaster of Atlantis School of Magical Studies

21st of July 1967

One of the great mysteries of our world is where magical people came from. We can find magical references as far as some thousands of years ago. To give an example, Circe was a recorded witch in Greece with talent in Transfiguration. The first recorded wizarding school was the Sanctuary of Delphi where students were learning about the peculiar art of Divination. The school is still open and one of their many courses has to do with Ancient Magic.

Although the modern magical community has dismissed Ancient Magic as unpredictable and dangerous, the Sanctuary of Delphi has it as one of its primary courses. You may wonder why, as I did. In one of my many conversations with the High Oracle of the school, Aspasia, she gave me the impression that they believe in an unusual theory. Below I quote her words.

''People with closed eyes think they are special. They don't see around them that they are not the only ones with magical abilities. They dismiss magical creatures as lower than them. The only thing they do is dismissing themselves as we are all the same and if we could cooperate, we could achieve great things. Experiments have been made through time either by will or by mistake with human-like creatures and the results, most of the time, were magnificent.''

Going further into a discussion with her, I realized that she believed this: Wizards and witches were magical creatures that through time developed in another way. She stated that fact by supporting the known existence of other human-like creatures like the Veelas, the Banshees, and the Mermaids. In conclusion, wizards can procreate with them like it has happened so many times with Veelas. That has to be the part of the ''by mistake'' procreation.

I can't help though, but think, after my recent findings, about Josef Mengele. He was a supporter of Gellert Grindelwald and he was known for doing experiments on Muggle and magical twins in order to understand the connection between them and their special abilities like Cryptophasia. What isn't known to common people, were the experiments he did on magical procreation with other creatures...

Cassiope picked up her notes and parchments frustrated and decided to go for dinner. Thousands of thoughts were pounding her mind that she couldn't even think her own name. She sighed and headed to the Great Hall. A little bit before she reached the first floor, she heard Draco exchanging insults with Harry and Ron about their mothers. Seriously? How old are they?  she thought but she couldn't stop the sudden gasp for air. She was ready to continue her way when she spotted Alastor Moody coming. In her mind, something was off with him. In a strange way, he had an aura of death around him. She saw him lifting his wand, screaming ''Don't you dare!'' and he transformed Draco into a ferret. He started beating him on the floor. She got mad. She drew her wand and flicked it towards Draco, transforming him back to human the moment Mc Gonagall appeared. She saw Moody looking at her with his magical eye but his other one was occupied by looking to McGonagall, who was scolding him for his behavior.

She helped Draco to his feet. He was ready to throw some threat to Moody, she knew, so the moment he opened his mouth, she smacked him on the back of his head, bringing her finger to her lips to shush him. She urged him to follow her before he got a detention. Once they were close to the dungeons, Cassiope didn't realize that she was still holding her wand up, ready to attack. Instead of doing that though, she started producing her known ribbons.

''Are you kidding me Malfoy? What kind of behavior was that? Insulting your mothers? Attacking from the back? With Moody on the picture? Are you serious?''

''Hey! Don't blame only me! They said things about my mother too!'' he said waving his hands over his head in frustration.

''And did I say that they were better?'' Cassiope rubbed her face in surrender. ''You know what? Why do I care? I just thought that Draco this morning was better than the actual Draco. Suit yourself.''

She made a move to leave but Draco caught her arm again. ''Don't you dare leave again Cassiope! Yes, I found out your name, don't look at me like that. Do you think I am stupid? What do you want me to say? I am sorry? I am not sorry for insulting Weasel and Potter because I have my reasons which you don't know. I am sorry though that I fell in your eyes as it seems. But I am not the only one with hidden agendas so please, can you tell me why in the name of Merlin don't you talk to me or anyone for that matter but you sing to a damn ghost?''

''Don't you speak about Myrtle like that! She is more than what meets the eye!'' she wrote with her angry face trying to pull out her arm from his grasp. He didn't lessen his hold though so after sighing in resignation she wrote ''Bad things happen when I speak or when I am sad. I can speak to ghosts because they are already dead and nothing can harm them. I can sing without anything happening, at least as far as I know.''

''Why is that happening?'' he asked in curiosity.

On that question, Cassiope got angrier and pulled her arm with force. She saw him stumbling, but nevertheless he lifted his hands in surrender. ''Okay I am sorry!!! Obviously you don't know and that is where you draw the line. I promise I won't ask again until you will be ready to tell me.''

''And what makes you think that I would like to talk to you in the future?'' she snapped in her own way.

Malfoy gave her a sinister smirk. He lifted her hand and kissed her knuckles. ''Oh I am sure about that Cassiope. Like you, I am named after a constellation. I shine bright to differ.'' he said and left her dumbfounded.

Cassiope was still shocked by the Slytherin boy's ways. She didn't understand how she reached the Great Hall, how she found herself sitting at her usual spot in the corner, how she was already eating some shepherd's pie. She lifted her eyes to look at the Slytherin's table and found Malfoy smirking at her. Oh damn... She decided to eat quickly and leave for the library. Malfoy had cleared her head enough and she wanted to check the other notes and records she had in case she could find something useful on those experiments.

When she reached the library, she sat on a table and spread her parchments and notes on it. Cassiope pulled out the headmaster's letter and turned the page from Antony Fraser's journal in case there was something else written on the back. She searched every record she had in front of her. She only found stuff about rituals and spells. Frustrated she closed everything and packed her bag. It was almost closed to curfew and she needed to take a shower to relax before going to bed. Hermione though, who was once again working on her books about houselves, caught up with her and linked her arm with hers.

''Why were you looking about Josef Mengele at noon?'' she asked and Cassiope turned her head to look at her so fast that a crack echoed in the corridor.

''He was a bad man that during the Second World War of Muggles, did horrible experiments on kids. I don't understand how that has to do with our studies'' she continued.

Cassiope once more pulled her wand out ''He was a wizard and supporter of Geller Grindelwald. And I am looking at some things about Ancient Magic.''

Hermione stayed silent after that until they reached the portrait of Fat Lady. She muttered the password and both girls headed for their dorm. They put on their pajamas and while they were tacking themselves under the duvets, Hermione lifted her head and looked into Cassiope's eyes.

''Hey, I know that we are not friends, but if you ever need any help with anything, just let me know. Okay?'' she said softly. Cassiope just nodded kindly and turned her back on her.

The tired girl thought about her recent findings, Draco Malfoy's attitude, and her father's letter. She spent some time deciding if she should answer it or not. After a while, though she decided that this was something to leave for another day and drifted to a dreamless sleep.

Cassiope was intrigued to say the list for the upcoming lesson with Alastor Moody. She still didn't like him. And not because of his deformed face, she was not the one to judge a book by its cover, but because of his aura. So when Thursday came, she gathered with the rest of Gryffindors and Slytherins outside his classroom before the bell even sounded.

When everyone was seated. Alastor Moody came in and started reading their names from a catalog. Every time someone was hearing his name, he had to stand up. So when her time came professor looked at her.

''Cassiane Culuriote?'' he asked and she stood up. ''Oh, the girl that doesn't speak. Don't expect that I will do you any favors because of your disability. Although as you can see you are a master in Transfiguration and interfering in other people's cases.'' Cassiope threw him a nasty look. ''Sit down girl'' he ordered and she obeyed in annoyance.

He started talking about the Unforgivable Curses and their powers as long as their history and the problems each one created during the First War. She didn't know much about the later but she still didn't pay much attention to what he was saying. What good it would do to me to listen to the effects when I am an Unforgivable Curse myself? she thought. She just felt sorry about poor Neville Longbottom because when he heard about the Crusiatus Curse, he was ready to faint. After a while, Moody ordered them to keep notes as he continued giving them information on the Curses.

After the course she left for the Great Hall along the rest of the Gryffindors and the Slytherins. She ate quickly like Hermione and she stood up at the same time with her. They exchanged a look and it was all that she needed to know. They were both heading to the library. As she was coming out of the Great Hall, she felt a familiar hand grabbing her arm. A little bit more of his habit and she will bruise like a peach.

''It was horrible how Mad-Eye treated you. Do you want me to tell my father and have him kicked out?'' Draco said with a worried face but Cassiope's frustration didn't lessen. She rolled her eyes and slapped her forehead on the young man's ignorance and waved to Hermione to wait for her.

After searching in the Restriction Section for what seemed like hours she met at the table with Hermione. She showed her her notes about something called SPEW. Cassiope looked at her curiously and Hermione explained that it was for the rights of Houselves. Cassiope thought it was a lost cause but contributed as a member anyway. The girls returned to the Gryffindor tower to find Ron and Harry studying Divination. Cassiope waved her goodnight and headed for the girls' dorm when Harry Potter got and owl. He quickly unfolded the small paper to find his godfather's writing.

I'm flying north immediately. This news about your scar is the latest in a series of strange rumors that have reached me here. If it hurts again, go straight to Dumbledore -they're saying he's got Mad-Eye out of retirement, which means he's reading the signs, even if no one else is. Please do something without asking any questions. Keep an eye on Cassiope Culuriote. She might be in danger like you.

I'll be in touch soon. My best to Ron and Hermione. Keep your eyes open Harry.

The boy hit his hand on his table mad with his own stupidity. But one thing stood out from the letter. Cassiope Culuriote was in danger. But why?  Thank Merlin though, the girl remained ignorant, fast asleep in her bed.

A few weeks came by and Cassiope still hadn't replied to her father's letter. She didn't know what to say. Myrtle was pestering her to answer it and at least get some answers. She was often founding herself looking at the blonde woman holding the baby in the picture. It was somewhat calming her.

She had noticed that she couldn't stay alone easily. Someone was always with her. Whether it was Hermione who liked going to the library with her or accompanying her in the corridors, whether it was Harry and Ron walking behind her.  As a person used to live alone, it was starting to get really annoying. On the other hand, Draco couldn't stop looking at her and trying to approach her. He was always next to her during Care of Magical Creatures making small chat on his own while they were both trying not to get burned from the skrewts. He asked Snape to move him so he will sit beside her during Potions and he was always looking at her during the meals. At first, she thought he will stop if she just ignored him. She tried that during the other lessons and during the meals she would sit with her back at the Slytherin table but to no avail. She could still feel him looking at her.

One day during the Defence Against Dark Arts, Moody announced that they will start practicing on the Imperius Curse. For a moment, Cassiope freaked, thinking that he will make them use it on one another. But they will only have to learn how to break them. She saw her fellow classmates do all kinds of funny stuff. When it was Harry's turn, she saw him struggling. He is fighting the curse. Harry bent his knees like he was ready to jump but due to his struggle he felt over and hit his head on the desk in front of him. Moody congratulated him on his effort and made him do it over and over again until he was able to resist. Then it was her turn.

She stood up and walked between the other students. She stood in front of him and then turned her back to look at her classmates. Cassiope stole a glance at Draco who looked terrified for some reason. Then she felt so euphoric. Her mind was empty from any worry. She heard a voice...

Sing for me Cassiope...

Why should I do that?

Sing for us... We will all gonna love it...

You know what? I will, after you... I wanna hear you sing...

She then was brought back into her senses from her slumber by a sour and raspy voice singing on top of his lungs. While the whole class was laughing, she looked behind her to see Professor Moody singing with his chest puffed up the ''Drunken Sailor''.

''What will we do with a drunken sailor?
What will we do with a drunken sailor?
What will we do with a drunken sailor?
Early in the morning!''

The rest of the class started singing with him and she couldn't help but start giggling at the sight. It was a rare sound for her and it felt weird in her mouth. She tried to cover her mouth with her hands but alas, she was already bent in two from laughing.

''Way hay and up she rises
Way hay and up she rises
Way hay and up she rises
Early in the morning! CULURIOTE!!!''

He screamed and everyone in class froze. She stopped laughing and looked at the professor. What will he do to her? Another Unforgivable Curse? Instinctively, she grasped her wand ready to protect herself. But Moody after eyeing her with both his eyes for a long moment he burst out laughing.

''You see what Miss Culuriote did? Not only she was able to resist the curse on her first attempt but she was also able to reverse it to hit me! Twenty points for the power of your mind to Gryffindor miss Culuriote and another ten for your cheek.'' he said and gestured her to sit back on her seat.

Cassiope couldn't help but feel a sting of confidence for once in her life. When she passed Draco on her way, that confidence lead her to give a smug smile and wink at him. She suppressed the urge to laugh when she saw his jaw drop.

Author's Note:

Cassiope finds some more things about her nature and other kinds of magic. She has her first contact with her father and it doesn't go so well. What happens with Draco though? Why did Sirius say she is in danger? I hope you liked the facts about Greece. I always thought that the wizarding world was narrowed a bit in the UK. I wanted to expand it. Do you like it? Let me hear your thoughts on the reviews. And as always...

Much love!

Chapter 4: Protego
[Printer Friendly Version of This Chapter]

Cassiope was the only Gryffindor that couldn't go to Hogsmeade this weekend. No parent or guardian means that no one was able to give his permission for her to leave the school grounds. So, on this chilling October morning, while her fellow students were leaving for a fun day to Hogsmeade, Cassiope packed her notes and some books to study and left the castle. She headed to the Forbidden Forest. She needed peace and calmness after so many weeks in the castle.

Most people were afraid of the woods, but not her. All the creatures were her friends and no one had ever tried to hurt her. It was in her first year when Pansy Parkinson had called her ''stupid mute''. She could feel the tears coming so she started running outside, away from anyone who could get hurt. Her feet brought her to the forest and even if it was strictly forbidden to go there, she kept walking deeper and deeper in the woods until Firenze found her. She was calm by that time and the centaur led her back to the school grounds. But she came back over and over again until she learned the woods like the back of her hand.

When she found her favorite spot, a small clearing among the high trees, she laid her blanket on the cold hard soil and sat there hearing the sounds around her peacefully. She knew it was time to give people answers. A parchment and a quill were in her hands before she knew it and she started writing her first letter. The one that was less heartbreaking.

Dear Draco,

I am writing this letter to you because I've noticed how you always seek my company. I can't understand the reasons behind that but I want you to stop. You saw what I can do, in the toilets. I am dangerous to anyone that comes near me. Please respect my wishes and protect yourself. Stay away from me.

As much as she didn't want to admit this to herself, she had enjoyed having Draco around. He made her feel wanted, needed. It was like he needed to talk to her. He needed to see her sit across the Great Hall so he will have somewhere to land his eyes. It was a great feeling, but like every good thing in her life, it had to end. With that last thought about him on her mind, she enchanted the letter so he will start despising her and then grabbed another parchment and prepared to write her first letter to her father.

Dear Father,

I still don't know your name. S.O.B. is not a name but I guess it's your initials. I guess you are dropping a hint for me to find your name? Great way to introduce yourself to your daughter.

I am sorry. I don't want to be so bald or rude. As a kid, I used to dream about the time that you will come to save me from the orphanage, but you never did. When Dumbledore came and announced to me that I am a witch, I was so happy because I was thinking with my little mind that maybe you are a wizard too and you hadn't come all these years because you didn't know if I was worthy. For one year, every morning, I was looking at the owl post coming through the windows, waiting for that precious letter, but to no avail. I could see every kid getting letters, presents, and treats from home, even Harry Potter, who is an orphan too, was getting something from the Weasley family. By the end of the first year, while I was waiting in Kings Kross to see you, I realized that you won't come and so I left all hope behind me.

I don't know how to include you in my life anymore. I learned to do everything on my own. Do you know that I am dangerous? Are you like me and mama? I understand that you cannot tell me who you are. I only know that you are an animagus. If I learn how to be one too, will you meet me? Can you tell me more about yourself? I can't see another way to build a relationship with you rather than sharing.

I will wait for your next letter.

She folded both parchments and put them in her bag. Her mind was racing, so she gave up studying before she even had the chance to open her books. She lifted her sleeves and tried the first spell on ancient magic she had learned. Immediately, turquoise and lilac feathers fell from her palms. Each feather was transforming into a small colorful sparrow once it was touching the ground. She lifted her hands and the sparrows flew above her. They started moving in beautiful swirling patterns and Cassiope decided to lay there and just look at them.

Cassiope was thinking about Draco. She was used to pushing everyone away from her for their own good. But she was so tired... She just wanted to talk to someone, have a conversation, tell a joke. Anything really. And Draco was always there talking to her even if she was always ignoring him. His eyes were so beautiful when he is angry...

''Draco...'' she whispered...

She closed her eyes and started to sing...

''Wise men say only fools rush in
But I can't help falling in love with you
Shall I stay?
Would it be a sin
If I can't help falling in love with you?

Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling, so it goes
Some things are meant to be
Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I can't help falling in love with you...''

The sound of a twig snapping was heard and Cassiope stood up with a jolt. Draco immersed from the woods looking like a lunatic with his wand held high ready to attack. She brought her hand on her heart. Her pulse was racing miles.

''Blimey Malfoy! What the bloody hell are you doing here?'' she wrote to him.

''You called me! I thought something happened to you!'' he said throwing his hands on the air.

''How did you find me?''

''I don't know. I was in Three Broomsticks and suddenly my feet acted like they had a mind of their own. And I was hearing you in my head calling me.'' he said gasping for air. He grabbed his sides. He was panting for air.

Cassiope didn't say anything else and laid herself on the blanket again. The little sparrows had stopped their dance but with a move of her hand, they started again. Draco took a place beside her and laid on the blanket with his arm supporting his head. Together they watched the beautiful patterns of the birds.

''They are beautiful... Did you make them?'' he asked and Cassiope nodded.

''Wow...'' he gasped and stayed silent for a moment only to add '' Can you please keep singing please?'' Cassiope raided her eyebrow. Was the famous Malfoy pleading?  '' Oh shut up and sing!'' That's more like it.

Cassiope started singing the song he interrupted earlier. Draco intertwined their hands together and she stopped for a moment. What was that? she thought but decided to let it be. It was nice. Soon she started her song again. She will allow that small luxury. Everything will be over tomorrow.

By the time she finished the song, her eyes closed and they were both asleep.

Draco woke up from the cold. His feet were numb and he was trembling. His face was warm though because he was nuzzling in Cassiope's long hair. They were smelling so intoxicating... The scent was like the one of the air after a strong rain. It was so simple and perfect. He opened his eyes to find himself hugging her from behind. He pulled her hair from her face. She was so peacefully. Her guard was missing. He placed a small kiss on her temple.

Cassiope woke up feeling someone caressing her face. It was such a nice feeling that she allowed herself to get closer to his chest. She couldn't remember the last time someone held her. The last time she felt safe.

''Cassie, open your eyes, honey.  It's dark now and we are in the middle of the Forbidden Forest.''

Cassie... How beautiful... She didn't want to open her eyes and break the little bubble they had created. Once they would be out of the forest they will have to follow different roads. For his own good...

She opened her eyes and he stood up pulling her with him. He was still holding her hands. He looked in her amber eyes and saw worry and sadness. How much he wanted to erase them. He didn't have spare thoughts to feel terrified that they were in the middle of the Forbidden Forest. It was just her and him. He thought about kissing her but he decided against it as he knew it would upset her.

For the first time in his life, he didn't feel like his feelings, his own mind like his father was saying, was a weakness. His heart was beating hard in his chest and his blood was boiling in his veins making him feel more alive than ever. Every time he was seeing her in the Great Hall trying to hide from everyone. Every time she was focusing in class and that small wrinkle would appear between her eyebrows. Every time she was rolling her eyes on his stupidity. He was feeling alive!

Cassiope looked in his eyes and saw expectations and longing. She couldn't oblige though, so she closed her eyes and pulled her hands. She bent over and gathered her stuff in her bag. She lifted it on her shoulders and started walking towards the path she came from with Draco following suit.

''Please tell me that you know how to get us out of here'' he said, trying to hide the fact that he was scared of this bloody place. She simply nodded and grabbed his hand. They both lighted their wands. Draco couldn't shake the feeling that someone or better something was following them. After a while, he decided to share his feeling.

''Cassiope, I think that someone is following us...'' he whispered.

Immediately, she brought her finger to her lips to shush him and nodded. They started walking faster and now sounds of the things they were following them moving could be heard behind them. They broke into a sprint, holding their wands for dear life. Cassiope was thinking that the school was close, the moment an acromantula appeared in front of her. The beast almost snapped its claw at Draco's torso but he jumped behind the last second. He really had very good reflexes. They positioned themselves with back to back raising their wands in defense.

''Move aside Cassiope. We just want the juicy young human.'' she heard a voice saying and the crowd of the horrible spiders broke so their leader, Aragog, will come forward.

''You know them?'' Draco asked and she turned her neck with wide eyes to give him a look that said Do you think that now is the right time to ask questions? Then she looked at Aragog and spread her hands to show him that she would protect Draco no matter what.

''Suit yourself'' he said and turned back and left. The spiders started closing their circle around them. Oh my God, they are going to kill him she thought and stunned the first spider that took a leap towards them. Draco followed suit but they were too many of them. One of the acromantulas managed a deep cut on his calve. Another one snapped its claw on her arm and she felt it going numb. She had to do it, she thought between her effort to stun as many spiders as possible and her effort to keep her hand high.

Draco felt Cassiope leaving his side and turned to see her standing a meter away with her wand pointed on him. He saw her lips moving and a blast broke from her wand and threw him on the ground, flat on his back, and he felt the air leaving his lungs. Then Cassiope turned to face the acromantulas and let out the most inhumane scream that made the hair on his neck stand in attention. All the spiders fell down and stopped moving. Then Cassiope fell down like a sack of potatoes. He quickly stood up, desperately searching her neck for a pulse. She had several cuts on her face and she had two nasty cuts on her thigh and arm that were pouring thick sticky blood.  His panic was rising and he took a deep breath to calm himself. Immediately, he felt her slow pulse under his finger and he let out a sigh of relief. He picked her up in his arms and ignoring the stabbing pain on his leg, he limped his way to the castle grounds.

Once he was out of the forest he felt his leg giving up under him and he fell on his knees. He lifted his wand and sent red sparkles to towards the castle. With some luck, someone would see them. He couldn't feel his leg but that wasn't worrying him. Cassiope was cold, her otherwise Mediterranean olive face was now pale as a sheet and her lips were blue. He put her softly on the ground and took her bag off her shoulders. He found the blanket and wrapped it around her.

What to do? What to do?  ''Renervate''  he screamed pointing his wand in the middle of her chest. Cassiope jerked in his hands and gasped for air but didn't wake up. Tears were falling from his grey eyes as he was shaking her to wake up. He was feeling his own body giving up. Acromantulas were probably poisonous. He saw someone coming over from the castle fast and he lifted one last time his wand and screamed ''Lumos'' before he fell down next to Cassiope.

Draco could hear voices. At first, it was like an annoying buzzing on his ears. Like a persistent bee. He tried to bloke it out and continue sleeping. His whole body was in pain. But the buzzing was getting louder and he could listen to what the voices were saying. It was Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape and Moody who were talking.

''How are they, Minerva?'' he heard the worried voice of Dumbledore saying.

''Mister Malfoy will be alright in three days. He lost a lot of blood, especially in his effort to carry Miss Culuriote back to school. It was very smart of him to send red sparkles. He had blood poisoning but Severus gave him the antidote.''

''Yes, and it was my last batch. I gave it to Miss Culuriote too.'' Snape chimed.

''Thank you, Severus. What about the girl?''

''We don't know what is happening to her. We cured her of the poisoning, we close her wounds, we gave her blood-replacing draught but she lost so much blood... Her femoral artery was cut, one minute later and she would be dead. That explains her low pulse but not the high brain activity as she is in a coma.'' the professor finished.

''Severus, Alastor, did you check the woods about what happened?'' Dumbledore sighed with resignation.

''Bloody massacre I tell you!'' Alastor said frustrated. ''The whole place filled with scattered acromantulas carcasses. And the big question is, how the bloody hell did it happen? How two fourteen-year-olds faced so many acromantulas and lived to tell the story?''

''I have many theories as always, my good friend Alastor'' Dumbledore sighed while patting Moody on the shoulder. Draco had fluttered his eyelids by then and he was watching the scene in front of him, behind his lashes.

''Perhaps Draco will do us the honor and tell us what happened'' Snape sneered as always and he walked to stand beside his pillow. Draco couldn't hide anymore. He was embarrassed that he got caught eavesdropping. He shook that feeling quickly though as it was them that decided to have a chat above his head. He had far more important things to worry about.

Sitting straight, he left his ''good pureblood kid'' fall and demanded ''Where is she? Where is Cassiope?''

''Relax Mister Malfoy. She is over there'' Dumbledore said and pointed with his finger to the far corner of the infirmary. Her bed was behind pulled curtains and he couldn't see her but he was trusting Dumbledore that she was stable.

''Can you tell us what happened Draco?''

Draco thought about it. Clearly, Cassiope had a secret. She had powers that she couldn't control and she was considering herself as dangerous. She was pushing him away because of it. He knew that deep down in his heart. He knew that Cassiope was special because of her powers and many people would like to study her or use her. He also knew that they wouldn't stop pondering him about what happened. He could only see one choice.

'' I will tell you, but only to you, Headmaster'' Draco replied finally and gave Dumbledore a look.

''Minerva, I didn't have any dinner tonight and I am sure that Mister Malfoy must be famished. Could you be so kind and fetch us something from the kitchens? And you, Severus, please bring me the Pensieve. Alastor, I would appreciate it very much if you could notify Hagrid about the acromantulas'' Dumbledore ordered and every professor with a look of apprehension turned to leave the room.

''Headmaster, what do you know about Cassiope?'' Draco cut straight to the point.

''I know some things about her life outside of Hogwarts, but not much. Cassiope is one of the few people that does everything alone, not by choice but by need''.

''Sir, I've witnessed some stuff she can do that I shouldn't. She was the one that killed the acromantulas. I was barely able to push them back''. he said, remembering the horrible feeling of dread. Cold sweat broke down his back and he inhaled sharply trying to calm himself.

''Draco, I won't ask you to tell me more than you are willing to share, but can you share that memory with me? Maybe it will help me with her situation''.

''Only the memory of the fight?'' he asked. He didn't want to share with the old man his intimate moments with Cassiope. Actually he wished he could keep everything about her for himself. He was able to share moments with her. He had comforted her when she needed someone, she had given him a smile, they had slept in each other's arms. There was something odd about Cassiope that wasn't her powers. It was the fact that everything was bold and real when he was with her. She didn't care about his name or his money, in fact, she was even trying to avoid him for his protection. He could be just himself around her. Not the Lucius Junior that everyone was expecting him to be. This facade that his father insisted on him to wear. He was even starting to explore different sides of himself. Sides that he didn't know he had. He would catch himself thinking about what he did or said during the lesson and he would feel stupid and surprised with himself.

His train of thoughts was cut short by the headmaster's response... ''Of course Draco. Only the parts you want to show me''. And that moment professor Snape walked in, holding the Pensieve. Draco knew what a Pensieve was. His father had one at his office. He was mostly using it to inspect his meetings with his opponent businessmen. Other times though, he was using the Pensieve as another measure, he though feeling a shiver running down his spine.

Snape left and locked the door behind him. Dumbledore moved the Pensieve to the nightstand next to Draco's bed. Draco could feel his heart pounding in his chest. He tried to bring back the whole memory of the fight in his head. He then proceeded to tough his temple with his wand. It was a bit painful but eventually, the small silver thread dropped in the Pensieve.

''Shall we?'' Dumbledore asked and Draco took a deep breath and nodded affirmatively. Then the headmaster grabbed him by the shoulder and together they dived into the depths of the Pensieve.

Draco saw himself and Cassiope standing back to back throwing one Stun after the other. He flinched when he saw the acromantulas taking bites of Cassiope's flesh. Without acknowledging the headmaster, he moved closer to her to examine her face. He saw a determination to survive in the wrinkle between her eyebrows and on her clenched teeth, but in her eyes, he saw fear. And there it was. The moment that filled the gap in his memories. Cassiope stole a glance towards him. She quickly turned back to the fight and continued throwing curses. Just enough to push the beasts back a little and gain a moment. At that moment, she turned back at him. He saw his shocked face once she pointed he want at him, but this time he heard her whispering ''Protego'' creating a shield that threw him down like a blast. Cassiope turned again, facing the acromantulas and let that shrieking scream that froze his guts. This time though he was watching her. Her hair flew around her face wildly but there was no wind. The worst though was that her eyes shined white before she dropped on the ground like a puppet without strings.

Draco didn't understand how he got back on his bed. How Dumbledore had left a tray with food on his lap. He was shaken from his slumber though by Dumbledore's words.

''Mister Malfoy, can I trust you that you will tell no one about what happened in the Forbidden Forest? It will be safer for Miss Culuriote if you didn't share that story.'' Draco simply nodded still in shock from what he had witnessed. Dumbledore turned his back to him to leave but before he closed the door behind him he said lowly ''Please, stay as less close to Miss Culuriote as you can. At least I find some answers.''

As soon as the door was closed, Draco jolted out of his bed and rushed to Cassiope's. The pain on his leg was there, making him limping but he didn't pay a second thought once he was on her side. She was pale. Madam Pomfrey had changed her bloody clothes with a hospital robe. Her long black hair was laying all over her pillow, hanging from the edges of her bed. Her plump lips were slightly open, daring him to kiss them. He swallowed the lump that was in his throat... She was like Sleeping Beauty... He couldn't fight it and he let a kiss on her forehead. That's when his gaze fell on the bag on her nightstand. He didn't pay any mind on how wrong his next move was. He needed answers, so he quickly opened the bag to find many parchments. Some of them were notes and some of them were letters.

He grabbed a letter and opened it. It was from Cassiope to her father? He then realized that he knew nothing about Cassiope's life outside of the school. Damn, he barely knew simple things about her like what was her favorite color. Does she have a big family and siblings? Where's that weird name of hers come from? He then opened the letter and started reading. With every sentence, he was feeling his heart dropping a little bit further in his chest. No, Cassiope didn't have a family. She had grown in an orphanage. No Cassiope didn't have siblings or friends. She was always alone. Even if her father's absence was hurting her and she was trying to push him too away and show him that she didn't need him anymore she was still looking for his approval. How alike we are my dear Cassiope... But SOB? Why these initials ring a bell?

He folded the letter and then proceeded to read her notes. As he was reading page after page, he was getting more confused... Josef Mengele? Wasn't he a friend of his grandfather Abraxas? And the explorer... He had read his name somewhere in their private library. Dammit, he was getting a headache! Mermaids, Veelas, his great great great grandmother was a Veela... Hense the white-blonde hair, that run in the family... Banshees... Banshees are screaming, crying, wailing when death is close... Hybrids... Cassiope is a hybrid! Probably a banshee! I can't think of any other creature that has traits more similar to hers... He had to find more pieces of this puzzle before telling her anything...

He was rummaging through broken quills and empty ink bottles at the bottom of her bag when he grabbed another letter. That was addressed to him. He had a dreadful feeling about this little piece of paper. He didn't want to open it but his hands moved like they had a mind of their own.

Dear Draco,

I am writing this letter to you because I've noticed how you always seek my company. I can't understand the reasons behind that but I want you to stop. You saw what I can do, in the toilets. I am dangerous to anyone that comes near me. Please respect my wishes and protect yourself. Stay away from me.

So that's what she wanted? What everybody wanted? Dangerous or not Draco was too stubborn to admit that. But seeing her words on the paper, asking him to leave her, degrading his effort to approach her, his feelings, like he was some piece of trash, well that hurt! But she doesn't know your feelings. And she did save your life. And she stayed with you in the woods... a little voice in his head chimed. That voice though disappeared as he felt his heart breaking. And from that heartbreak, he felt anger. Such a wave of strong anger that made the corners of his eyes tearful. He shoved his letter back to Cassiope's bag and he left for his bed limping. He tucked himself under the blankets and closed his eyes falling into a dreamless sleep not knowing that a few moments later a shadowed man would come inside and peek on the contents of the Pensieve...
