Chapter 1: How it started...
[Printer Friendly Version of This Chapter]

                                                                                                                       JOCYLYNN’S POV

“And then the old lady said, ‘Howdy yer do?’” James Potter said. Laughter ensued this statement.

I sighed and turned around and walked back to school. I was in no mood to run into the Wotter clan today. We had only gotten to Hogwarts a week ago, and I was failing my classes, had a detention tomorrow, and I had failed to make the Quidditch team, so I wasn’t in the greatest mood.

“Hey, I’ve seen you before,” someone said. Ugh. James Potter, Fred Weasley, Rose Weasley, and Dominique Weasley had caught up to me. I turned around.

“Yeah, well everyone’s seen you so I guess that makes us even, right?” I replied sarcastically. “Ooh, a temper,” Fred said. “I like her.”

I laughed then asked, “Are you gonna move?” “No, I don’t think I will,” James said, then he laughed and he and his friends walked away.

I sighed, then walked back up to the school, planning to go to my common room and study. But the day’s events weren’t over yet.

As I walked down the hall, Scorpius Malfoy came out of an empty classroom, bumping into me, causing all of my books to fall.

“Sorry,” he said leaning down and picking up my books. “Hi, I’m Scorpius, who’re you?” he said.

“Jocylynn,” I replied. What house?” he asked. “Slytherin,” I said. “Hey me too!” he said excitedly.

We smiled at each other and his white-blond hair fell into his eyes so he tugged it out.

“I’m going to the common room to study, d’you wanna join me,” I asked warily. “Sure,” he said.

                                                                                                                       JAMES’S POV

“Hey, Fred, you know that girl we ran into,” I asked Fred.

“Yeah, James, Dom was able to figure out her name. It’s Jocylynn Jerold,” Fred replied. “She was pretty, I’m gonna see if she’ll go out with me,” I said, grinning.

“Not if I do it first,” Fred said, punching me lightly on the shoulder. “Ha, ha,” I said.

Chapter 2: Friends and Plans
[Printer Friendly Version of This Chapter]

                                                                                                                 JOCYLYNN’S POV

As Scorpius and I walked towards the common room, he seemed to be trying to tell me everything about his life.

“And then my mom’s all like, ‘Dammit, I couldn’t find your father. Could you?’ And I was all like, ‘Yeah, he’s in the library, why didn’t you look there?’ And she was all like, ‘Because your father doesn’t read.’ And I laughed and-are you even listening?” he asked, uncertainly.

“Yeah, your mom couldn’t find your dad, so you think- Luminescent -it was very funny,” I said as I walked through into the common room.

“Scorpius, I was wondering when you would come back. I Have something to…. Oh.” Albus Potter ran at Scorpius then stopped mid-run and mid-sentence.

“Who’s this,” Albus asked, curious. “Jocy-” Scorpius started to say. “I’m Jocylynn,” I interrupted.

“She’s gonna study with us, is that alright?” Scorpius asked. “Yeah, sure,” Albus said enthusiastically.

We all sat down and I immediately took out my Transfiguration book. “Why do you start with Transfiguration?” Albus asked.

“Cause I have detention with her on Saturday. I didn’t turn in my homework so I’m trying to get it done.” “You mean the Animagus essay?” Albus asked. “Yeah,” I replied.

After that, we were all silent for a time. Once I was done with the Animagus essay, I worked on the Accio charm for Professor Flitwick. Soon, I was done with all of my homework.

I fell asleep on the chair I was sitting on, and the next thing I know, Scorpius was shaking me awake. “Hey, it’s time for dinner,” Albus said. I groaned and got up.

After dinner, we said good night and went to our separate dormitories. I’ve made a friend, I thought as I lay down. A real friend. And both are, like, famous. I sighed then fell asleep almost instantly.

The next day, I felt good. It was Saturday. I immediately got dressed and went to meet Albus and Scorpius, wondering if yesterday was only a dream.

“Jocylynn, hey by the way, can I call you Lynn?” Albus Asked me as soon as I got there. “Yeah, that’s fine, hi Scorpius,” I replied waving at Scorpius.

Ten minutes later, we were sitting at the end of the Slytherin table in the Great Hall. As I spread jelly on my toast, I let my eyes wander. They landed on James Potter, who was staring at me. He quickly turned around, and I sighed.

Later, I walked into Professor McGonagall’s classroom. James Potter was there, sitting at a desk. He looked at me and smirked.

“Well, since you are both here, I will inform you that you are supposed to sort the needles and pins. Pins go into this box,” Professor McGonagall said, pointing at a black box, “And needles go into this one,” she said pointing to another. “Get to work” She then left us alone.

“So, the famous Potter has detention,” I said as I began sorting, using magic.

“Yeah, didn’t turn my homework in.”

           “Ha, serves you right.”

“Hmm. Anyway, I heard that you’re the talk of the boys.”

           “Am I?”

           “Yeah, they say you’re attractive.”

           “Their lying to themselves.”

           “I don’t think so.”

“I do. And it’s my opinion that matters in that area.”

“Yeah, but your not the one looking at you. I am.”

“I believe there’s a word for that. Oh, wait, there is. It’s called stalking.”

“Hmm.” He smirked, then out of nowhere came, “Will you go out with me?”

I stared at him, then said, “Maybe, let me know when and I’ll let you know a week ahead.” “Next Hogsmeade weekend,” he said immediately.

When I got back to the common room I sat down next to Albus and Scorpius.
“How was detention?” Albus asked. “Absolutely horrid. James asked me out.”

“James? My brother?” I nodded. “Why?” Scorpius asked. “Well, according to him, I’m attractive. But I didn’t agree. Somewhat,” I said.

“What do you mean, ‘somewhat’?” Albus asked. “Well, I told him that I would let him know a week ahead of time. He said next Hogsmeade weekend,” I replied.

“So are you going to?” Scorpius asked. “Maybe, honestly, it depends on if he improves his attitude,” I replied. Albus laughed and said, “Good luck with that.”

                                                                                                                        FRED’S POV

As I walked down the quidditch pitch, the last thing I expected was James to catch up to me, smirking. I knew immediately that he had news and I was not going to like it.

“What? What on earth’s ground is making you grin so much? You look like you did when that girl in the seventh year asked you out.” “I do not!” James responded indignantly.

“Yeah you do,” I said teasingly. “Liar,” he said. “Mmhmm,” I said. “Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that I asked Jocylynn out.”

“Cool, but before you go, I heard that she likes to be called Lynn,” I let him know. He nodded then stalked off. I watched his back as he retreated.

                                                                                                                     ROSE’S POV

As I sat in the Gryffindor common room I made a plan with Dom.

“So, we first need to get in the good with that Jocylynn girl. And we are going to start by figuring out what she likes. Do you understand?” Dom nodded. We smiled and stood up.

Chapter 3: The Unexpected
[Printer Friendly Version of This Chapter]

                                                                                                               JOCYLYNN’S POV

The days seemed to go by like a blur. My days surrounded my friend, homework, and reading. Soon it was October 20th. Scorpius got me a book called The Ways Of A Broomstick and Albus got me chocolate frogs.

However, Scorpius had quidditch practice and Albus had detention with Professor Flitwick. So I headed to the library by myself.

When I got to the library, it was empty except for the librarian. I sat down at a table and pulled out my mom’s letter.

Dear Lynn,

Happy birthday. I hope you are doing well and getting your schoolwork done on time. Your father got a promotion and is very happy because of it. (He has almost become unbearable, always bragging.)

I trust that you have made friends this year. If not, well, what’s another friendless year?

Speaking of friends, Lilian is moving. She let us know so we could tell you. She will be going to New York, which your father believes to be in America. She does wish you a happy birthday though.

Also, you cannot come home for Christmas this year. Your father and I are going to see Thomas and Claire as they are expecting. (Plus you know that your father has not been to his brothers in years and Thomas personally invited him.)

Please do write back. We have not heard from you since you got there.

With love,

P.S. Anything your mother says about me is wrong. Happy Birthday, Lynn.

It was quite a nice letter, but I didn’t know how to respond. Which was why I came to the library. Books always help me think.

“Hi, do you mind if we sit here?” someone asked, tearing me from my thoughts. I looked up. Rose and Dominique Weasley. “Sure,” I replied cheerily.

“I’m Dom, this is Rose, your Jocylynn, right?” Dominique, Dom, said. “Yeah, you can call me Lynn. It’s the name I use,” I replied, smiling.

“Ugh, I have so much work to do,” Dom complained. “That is because you put it all off until last minute,” Rose said opening her book. “I am only here for some light reading.” I laughed. They both looked at me and said, “What?”

“Shhhhhh,” Madame Pince said. “Sorry,” I told her. “Anyway, I laughed because she said light and that book is, like, 400 plus pages,” I said.

“That’s how you know it’s her,” Dom said, smiling.

          “Is it now?” I asked.

“Yeah,” Dom said. We both laughed.

“What’s that?” said Rose, stealing my parchment. She quickly read it, looked up, and said, “Happy birthday.”

“It’s your birthday?” Dom asked. “Yeah,” I replied. “Huh,” Dom said. She took out a parchment and wrote on it for a minute and then said, “I’ll be right back.”

“Where’s she going?” I asked, turning to Rose. “I don’t know,” she replied. “Hmm. What are you reading?” I pointed at her book. “The Guide To Mysterious Incidents,” she replied.

“Hi, guys. I just had to give that to James. By the way, Lynn, are you going to go with him to Hogsmeade?” Dom asked as she returned.

“Yeah, I just don’t know what to wear,” I replied. “Wear that hoodie, definitely,” Rose said. “Yeah,” Dom agreed. “Why?” I asked. “Because it’s the exact color of your eyes,” Rose said. “Oh. I wear it a lot because green is my favorite color,” I said.

“I’ll send you one of my jeans, they’re Just-Right jeans so they’ll fit even though you’re taller than me,” Dom said. I nodded. “And do you have a peach-colored shirt?” Dom asked. I shook my head. “Okay, I’ll buy you one because it will look amazing on you,” Dom said.

“Okay, now that you have planned her whole outfit, can you get to work?” Rose asked Dom. “Fine,” Dom said, rolling her eyes. I smiled.

“Well, I’m sorry but I have to go. Albus will be out of detention by now. Bye,” I said, waving as I walked out the library doors.

                                                                                                                   DOMINIQUE’S POV

As soon as Lynn left, Rose took out a parchment and began writing. She was quiet for a time, so I figured I would do some of the reading I had to do. But as soon as I pulled out my book, she put the parchment in front of my face and said, “Read this.”

  • -Likes to be called Lynn

  • -Favorite color is green

  • -Birthday is October 20 th

  • -Is friends with Albus

  • -Is friends with Scorpius

  • -Has no fashion sense (much like Dom)

  • -Has a sense of humor

“That’s what we know about her,” Rose said. “Take that out, right now!” I said, pointing at the ‘(much like Dom). “Fine,” she said, waving her wand. It disappeared.

                                                                                                                      JAMES’S POV

I was in the middle of doing homework when Dom came up and handed me a parchment. It read…

Lynn’s birthday is today. Get her something and tell Fred.

“FRED!” I yelled. “What?” he asked coming up behind me. “Today is Lynn’s birthday.”

“Okay, so we need to get her something, I’ve got it!” He ran off. I thought about it for a few minutes and then thought of the perfect thing.

                                                                                                                    JOCYLYNN’S POV

When I got back to the common room, Albus was waiting for me. “Hi, this came for you,” he said, handing me two packages.

I opened the biggest one first.

I realize it’s your birthday so, Happy Birthday.

Here are three boxes of Bertie Bott’s Every

Flavor Beans. I hope that you enjoy.

I sighed and opened the next one.

Happy Birthday, Darling.

P.S. Are you going with me to Hogsmeade?

I opened it and it was a beautiful necklace with a heart pendant made of Jade.

                                                                                                                       ALBUS’S POV

“And when Lynn opened it, her face lit up with joy,” I said. “Oh no. What if she actually likes him?” Scorpius asked. We were sitting on his bed in our dormitory. “Well, she could. But if you would just tell her you like her, we wouldn’t be in this situation.” He sighed. “Good night,” he said as he got ready for bed.
