Summary:

I loved my life in Milan with James, we were happy.  Returning to England was the hardest thing I ever had to do. I had been the quiet Hufflepuff then, I didn't know that James signing for the Appleby Arrows was going to change my life so much. I wasn't prepared for the glamorous lifestyle of being a Quidditch Player's Wife.

Chapter 1: Life in Milan and Returning to England.
[Printer Friendly Version of This Chapter]

When I left Hogwarts, my first thoughts were to get away from there. To leave UK, and never to return. I didn't hate Hogwarts, my school years hadn't been that awful but I just didn't want to be me anymore. I didn't want a boring job at the ministry, and be a doormat anymore. I had always been the good girl, quiet Hufflepuff. I would watch the popular girls, Crystal Kent and Audrina Hart. They are beautiful and confident, but everything I really hated in people, bullies to people they saw to be less pretty and talented than themselves . They were the type of girls who would hang out with the Potter Boys.

Moving to Italy after graduation was one of the best things I ever did. Italy was beautiful, warm and became my home. I was able to follow my passion, something I wouldn't have dreamed of when I was at Hogwarts. I loved Quidditch ever since I can remember, my dad would play with me but I was too nervous to try out for the team, or tell anyone how much I knew about it. It was a year and half before I landed the dream job. I was working with the biggest Quidditch team in the country, Milan.

It was soon after that when he arrived at the club. It wasn't my choice to buy him, he was a perfect choice for the club though. I didn't want him reminding me of home, I missed home but I knew going back would be a step backwards. James Potter arrived like a whirl wind, I didn't take him long to recognise me, surprising because I had always considered myself to be invisible at Hogwarts.

I tried at first to pretend not to know who he was, but one of my duties at the club was to welcome and settle in the English players who came play with the club which meant working closely with him.

At first he was cocky and annoying. His skills on the Quidditch pitch were undeniable and he knew it. He had soon calmed down, and settled into the club. We formed a friendship, I learnt that he had moved away from England because he had his heart broken. It wasn't long before I felt like I needed to heal him. Barely 6 months after him arrived at the club, we began a passionate affair.

It was hot and heavy for the first couple of months before James insisted he wanted to go public with our relationship. I was less keen, knowing it would reach the ears of people in England. However I had fallen head over heels in love with him, so agreed and for a while, we were the most photographed couple in Italy.

6 months into our relationship, he broke the news that he would be returning to England for a short stay because his brother Albus was getting married to Crystal Kent. I couldn't believe it! I had hated that girl. I felt sick but at the same time nice to know we lived in Italy and wouldn't let see her, perhaps she had changed.

I doubt it, James received an English newspaper daily, claiming it helped to keep him in touch with his family. I avoided reading it mostly though I did see a lot of photos of Crystal and Audrina, labelled as a 'WAG', Wives and Girlfriend of Quidditch Stars.

James asked me to go with him to England, the idea frankly caused me to turn into a pool of nervous sweat. I lied and said I needed to work, that I would like to meet his family but maybe another time. I didn't feel bad as he left, just happy to have avoided going to England again. However what I saw in James's newspaper the next day just broke my heart. The front page was a photo of James and Audrina, laughed and looking flirty with the title 'James and Audrina: Reunited!'. The horrible realization that it was her, Audrina who at broken his heart, it was her that had him first. That ate me up inside.

When he returned, I pretended not to care, I didn't talk or ask about his trip. He knew something was wrong, he cuddled and stroked my hair and asked when was wrong. He made me melt, I loved him so much so I quickly broke and confessed all. He said he was sorry that he didn't mention it was her, and that they both moved on and he loved me with all his heart. I knew he was telling the truth, I didn't question it for a moment.

“Maddy, I know I have to talk to you about this but I'm considering a move back to England. Some scouts have talked to me about a move to the Arrows” James said nervously one morning in January over breakfast.

A million thoughts raced through my mind as the words came out of his mouth. I was shocked, James had rarely showed any interest in returning to England before now. He had visited England around a year and half ago for Al's wedding. I didn't want to lose him, I could hardly say no if he really wanted to return. It wasn't my place too. I realised that I hadn't said anything in over minute and was just staring at my half eaten grapefruit.

“Oh, you mean leave Milan for good?” I said slowly and carefully.

“Yes, my Grandad is ill and I think my family need me. I know we have a great life here but I think it's something I need to do, please Maddy come with me?” He said.

I couldn't say 'No', it would be selfish of me. I knew James' family were important to him. I didn't know how mine would react to me coming back though. It was a big decision, too big to make over breakfast surely?

“I don't know James, I mean my job and the club needs me here!” I said nervously, I didn't want to go not really. I wasn't ready not yet. I didn't know if I would ever be ready.

“Maddy, stop making excuses. I know you're scared about going home but I love you and I need you to come with me!” He said, he was right though I was making excuses. James was always right. Damn.

“Alright, James I'll come” I said quietly.

“REALLY?!” he yelled, he looked so happy like a little boy on Christmas day or something. He throw his arms around me, hugging me closely and spinning me around in the air.

“Yes!” I said happily as he spun me around, I smiled. I was going back to England. I wasn't sure I was ready but I would be with James. How bad could it be?

“I LOVE YOU MADDY RYDER! MARRY ME?” He said, finally putting me on the ground finally.

“You mean it?” I whispered, nearly stunned into silent.

“Madeleine Grace Ryder, would you do me the honour of becoming Mrs James Potter?” He said seriously, getting down on one knee.

“Yes! Of course I will!” I nearly screamed happily.

“We're getting married!”

“I guess so!” I said laughed, he just grinned back at me with the biggest smile on his face. I don't know if I've ever seen him that happy.

She was a very busy woman, a highly professional and highly paid one. She sat behind the desk, sitting at the desk like it was a throne. It was this attitude that got her where she was today. She was a woman in a Man's game. Her PA called through that one of her most important clients was here to see her. She had agreed to see him as he normally never came to London, it was obviously important.

“Good Morning M” He said as he entered the room. His dark hair was as always untamed and messy, it was part of his look. It was part of the brand though.

Her name was Miranda Carroll. No-one had refer to her as Miranda in years. It was simply 'M' to everyone else. 'M' was simple and to the point. She wasn't fond of the name Miranda, she felt it to be too girly for professional use. M was a striking looking woman with high and defined cheek bones, short dark hair and bright blue eyes. She always dressed smartly in suits.

It was hard to believe that M was only 2 years older than the man sitting at the opposite side of the desk.

“Good Morning Potter” she said shortly “I hope you're doing well”

“I'm doing very well thank you, I came to share with you some exciting news” he said with a pause “Maddy and I are engaged”

“Congratulations” she said with a small smile, she had always liked Maddy though only meeting her twice before “she's a lot better than some of the bitches in this industry”

“Thanks M, I like to think so too” he said with a cheeky smile.

James Potter was a perfect brand. He was the son of the chosen one, excellent flyer with bucket load of charm. M was his PR representative, she wasn't his agent though she was more valuable for sure. It was her that he turned to whatever he needed advice or a story spinning for him. It was her who handled him turning up drunk to one of his important games of the season a couple of years ago and his heartbreak split from Audrina Hart.

“So I'll call a press conference, or perhaps we could arrange a magazine exclusive. I'm sure we can get 3 million gallons for the announcement plus a photo-shoot” she said in a business like tone.

“Oh one more thing, I'm moving back to England. I'm going to be joining the Arrows when the season starts in March” He said.

“Well Potter you've left me with a lot of work to do, I'll handle everything and I'll be in touch shortly, its nice to have some good news for once”

“Thanks for meeting with me today, I know you're a busy lady” he said as he got up to leave, shaking M's hand.

“Welcome home Potter” she called after him.

She settled back in her chair, today was going to be busier day than planned. She pushed a button by the side of her desk to communicate with her PA, she would need to move her 3pm appointment to 3.30. James Potter had left her with some calls to make.

“OMG, look at her! She looks like you Crystal!”

“She's got smaller boobs though!”

London was a favourite for the WAGs (Wives and Girlfriends) of the Appleby Arrows, they preferred the pace of London compared to any northern cities like Leeds or Manchester. It was further for their husbands to travel but they wouldn't much worried about that.

Crystal Potter was blonde haired and blue eyed, and big boobed. She was married to Albus Potter having met him at Hogwarts, sharing the same house, Slytherin. She was the ring leader of the group of 4. Crystal's best friend from Hogwarts was called Audrina. They shared different houses but had always been great friends and it was Crystal who introduced to Audrina to Quidditch players. Audrina had later married Scottish keeper Sean Casey. Audrina was often described by the press as 'a pretty petite red head'.

Third member of 'Arrow WAGs' was Anastasia Petrov, she was Russian model. She was very quiet and sometimes mysterious. She was married to Lucas Wood, but kept her name. She unlike the others were famous in her own right.

Finally, one of sweetest girls around Amelie Dubois who was married to french born Chaser Emmanuel Dubois. She didn't look it but she partied hard than anyone. She was the original good time girl, Amelie however was amazing at keeping a 'classy' media image, something Crystal could never do. She was a wild thing, with drugs and drinking fuelling her nights and shopping and lunches with girls filling her days.

“Are you jealous Audrina?” Amelie laughed as she sparked up a cigarette. The four of them had been having lunch and a gossip at a trendy restaurant in central London.

“If I wanted James I could have him, I don't though. I have Sean don't I?” Audrina smirked before sipping on her cocktail.

The girls were looking at magazine, the centre fold was a glossy photo-shoot of a couple. The couple smiled happily. The couple were a dark haired man with messy hair and hazel eyes with a blonde haired and blue eyed girl. The couple were James Potter and Maddy Ryder announcing their engagement, and saying they would be returning to England.

“I give it 6 months personally” Amelie in bored tone, surveying her happy face as she showed off a diamond ring.

“You gotta stop being so bitchy you know” Audrina commented though she was still amused by Amelie's blunt nature and sharp tongue.

“Oh come off it, she's right, she's too cutesy and too innocent!” Crystal commented , she giggled before adding “He liked a bit a rough didn't he?”

“Because he liked me you mean?”

“Of course!” Crystal grinned, Amelie and Ana laughed along to. Aurdina muttered something sounded like 'cow' but laughed along too, she after all knew Crystal was only joking.

“Lets go shopping bitches!” said Ana in a commanding voice. The others followed her out of the door, chatting away happily.

Chapter 2: First Game of the Season
[Printer Friendly Version of This Chapter]

The door bell rang, I ran to the door to answer it. It was the day of the first Quidditch Match of the season. James and I were renting a flat in London until we found a place of our own. I had kept a low profile since moving to London a month ago. James had attended a few Qudditch dinners since returning but I hadn't joined him. I however couldn't deny going to his first match, It would be my first appearance on the Quidditch 'scene'.

“Miss Ryder, I've been sent from M's office. She's arranged a Portkey to the game for you” He said, He was a good looking man in his mid- twenties. His voice sounded faintly American, he was dressed smartly in a suit.

“It's Maddy, Miss Ryder seems so formal” I said with a small smile “I'll just get my coat now and we can be off. Thanks erm..-”

“My name is Hunter, James asked M to make sure you got there safely”

“I might be nervous but I didn't need a babysitter. James is just trying to help though. It's thoughtful of him” I said, locking the door of our Kensington flat as I followed Hunter towards a parked car.

“What have you got to be nervous about? Arrows are only playing Cannons today. That's about a certain you can get about a victory”

“Oh, it's not that. I'm just nervous about meeting all the players and especially their wives. I use to go to Hogwarts with a couple of them. I think it'll be awkward especially as one of them is soon to my sister in law” I said, as Hunter was holding open a door for me of a posh looking black car.

“Oh, Crystal Potter. She's a feisty one for sure. Only meet her a couple of times but she leaves a quite an impression.” He laughed faintly. So, it wasn't my imagination, she did have a reputation. I felt the stupid knot in my stomach tighten.

“Well, she was Crystal Kent when I knew her, see she was in the same year as me at Hogwarts. We weren't friends and I don't know if I see that changing”

“Oh, don't worry. There is no law saying you have to spend time with them if you don't want to in future” he said with a chuckle.

The rest of the short journey was spent on a lighter note. We chatted mainly about Quidditch and similar things. I feel uneasy still however I let my nerves were calmed by the normality of the conversation. I decided I liked Hunter. He told me that he was working as M's assistant for just over a year, having come to England when he finished schooling in America. We pulled up to a tall glass building.

“Are you not getting out Hunter?”

“Nah, I've got to park this beauty up, just go in and just tell the receptionist your name, they'll be expecting you” He said before driving off. I felt very alone now.

“Hello, I'm Maddy Ryder”

“Oh, of course you're here for 2.30 Portkey for the Quidditch Match?”

“AUDRINA!!”

“SMILE FOR THE CAMERA!”

“WHO'S YOUR DRESS BY?”

“MARRY ME!”

From the moment she stepped out of the car to the moment she enter the VIP section of the Arrow's stadium, she got that type of reaction. Audrina Casey was greeted by a glass of champagne by a well dressed waiter as she scanned the room for familiar faces. Plenty of people had already arrived, some of the wives of the more low key players then she saw the cute doll like face of a small brunette.

“Audrina, Thank god you're here, I thought I was going to have to talk to one of these losers! Jesus, I can't tell you how much I need to smoke” Amelie said, taking a solid gold lighter out of her designer bag , offering Audrina a cigarette too which she declined.

“Mrs Dubois, I'm sorry but you can't smoke in here” said the nervous looking waiter, he turned pale at the sight Amelie's stare.

“Does it look like I care?” she said, giving him a withering look then pushed her empty glass into his hands “I need some more champagne and so does my friend, be quick”

“So what do you think Arrows chances?”

“Oh Rina, you should know I have no idea and if Emmanuel didn't look so good in his kit then I probably wouldn't be here either”

“You are wicked”

“You haven't been married to a Quidditch player for long enough sweetie, you soon lose interest in the game”

“Hey hey, how are my best bitches?” said a smiling Crystal as she appeared as if from no-where. It was only March yet she was wearing a pair of expensive designer sunglasses. It was like one of Crystal's trademark looks. A large portion of the room was looking at her, she attracted that type of attention. “Where's Ana?”

“Modelling job in Paris I think” Audrina asked “You look amazing by the way, new dress?”

“As always darling, lucky Ana though I bet the weather is better than it is up here. I could never live up North. Too depressing” She commented, as she always did where they attended matches in Yorkshire “Oh, that reminds Al told me that Maddy Ryder is attending the match, I suppose to be nice to her”

“God, she is going to be in shock when she meets you”

“She knows who I am, Al mentioned that she use to go to school with us or something. I think she was some Hufflepuff loser because I can't remember her”

“Hey, a bit harsh don't you think?”

“Well do you remember her? Anyway she stole your man”

“I chuck him if you remember? He wasn't stolen and I think I'm grown up enough to be happy that she is making him happy”

“Jesus, only having a laugh, it's probably the Ravenclaw coming out in you but still bet she's dead jealous of you, James's first love and all”

“will you shut up, she's just coming in the door, look!”

I felt very nervous, as soon as I entered the room I felt very undressed. I had obviously missed the fact you were suppose to be smartly dressed. There were a lot of glamorous women, and I felt scruffy with my jeans and ponytail. I was handled a glass of very expensive champagne and before I had a chance to drink any, I was approached by a group of 3 women.

“Hello Sweetie!” Crystal put her arms around me putting me into a hug, I don't know what I had expected that certainly not that. “Doesn't she look great girls?”

“Oh yes, I like how you felt comfortable to wear your house clothes, outside” commented a beautiful brunette with pretty doll like face, as she surveyed me I felt even more self conscience and rather like a dog being judged in a dog show. I didn't think I looked that bad.

“Oh ignore her, she's probably drunk already!” Crystal said brightly, the brunette didn't protest and just grab another glass off a tray that a waiter was carrying “She drinks like a fish!”

“Oh well, nice to meet you” I said uncertainly, I really couldn't think of much else to say. I can't figure out why Crystal was being so nice, it was a strange experience. Perhaps they would stop talking when the match began.

“I'm Amelie Dubois, charmed I'm sure” she said carelessly before walking off with Crystal to some seats which they had obviously reserved.

I was unsure if I should be following them, I didn't know really. I wish James was here, he was so confident and always knew what to say in any situation. I had just noticed that Audrina hadn't followed. I didn't like her, I couldn't like her. I hadn't talked to her yet but she was James's first love because of her I couldn't be his only love like he was mine. She hadn't meant to do it but it felt in some way that she had robbed me.

“Don't mind, Amelie – she is like that with everyone” she said, she sounded nice and genuine “Come on, James made sure you could sit with us so you had some company”

“Thank you” I said faintly, trying to manage a small smile. She smiled back and ushered me to follow her.

“AND POTTER CATCHES THE SNITCH! WHAT A WIN FOR THE ARROWS!”

There was a big cheer from the VIP, I cheered loudly. Before looking excitedly at the other girls. Audrina was the only one who looked faintly interested. Amelie was puffing away on a cigarette and chatting lazily to Crystal, she didn't seem interested that her husband had won the game. I felt a bit silly for being so excited, but I loved Quidditch and always cheered James on though I wouldn't dreamt of sitting in VIP suite back in Milan.

“Come on Maddy, We've going to the Centaur and Spear” said Crystal, getting up from her seat. She took her sunglasses out of her bag and put them on. I don't know if I'm the only person who noticed that it just started to rain.

“What's that?” I said, I was feeling pretty silly for asking, I had half a mind to go home but I knew James would be there, it relaxed me to know that I would be seeing a friendly face again.

“It's the restaurant where the team goes after games, didn't James say?” she said innocently.

“Oh, no.” I said quickly, shuffling my feet around a bit when I tended to do that when I'm nervous. Crystal looked at my feet and I quickly stopped.

“Well as you don't know where it is you can apparate with Audrina or something. I would invite you to apparate with me but I don't want you to be sick over me or something, some people don't take well to it and don't want to risk it” She said, Amelie just smirked.

“Right, Come on” Audrina said, usher for me to take her arm, I touched it as lightly as I could, feeling awkward that I needed someone to apparate with me like I was my 16 year old loser self again “you'll have to hold on tighter than that, I don't have any diseases despite what the newspapers say!”

I laughed, I knew she was joking. I think I liked her the best, which isn't saying much. She had been the most welcoming by some way but I just can't will myself to like her not just yet anyway. As soon as the faint laugh left my mouth, it died as that familiar feeling of being squeezed through a tight tube took hold of my body.

I was relieved when my feet when touching ground again. The restaurant was very posh, I had no idea where it was. It was obviously a famous hang out of the team as it was mainly decorated in the team colours, a light blue and silver. A group of 10 or so people were milling around with us, waiting to be showed to their seats, I wondered when the boys would be joining us.

“Maddy, you can let go of my arm now” Audrina said, with a flush of embarrassment I realised that I was still hanging on to her arm.

“Sorry” I muttered

After James and the rest of the team arrived I felt a lot better, everyone was in good spirits and I was introduced to the rest of the team. They seemed like cool guys, the drinks flowed and I loosen up a bit and after several hours of food and alcohol people begin to head off home. Albus was apparated away with a drunk looking Crystal, I felt slightly smug who would be throwing up now eh?

“See you at training on Monday Jay, I assume that I'll be seeing you at the store launch next week Maddy” Albus said with a small wave before disappearing from sight with Crystal.

“What store launch?” I said looking at James, I didn't think I could go through many more of these Quidditch Events.

“Oh, I was going to tell you about that, the Arrows are opening a new fan shop and we're suppose to go to promote it, they're having a launch event next weekend to coincide with the Wasps match, it's a big rivalry game” James explained.

“Jesus, Milan was so easy compared to this, being your girlfriend is basically a job in itself!” I moaned, half joking, as he put his arm around me.

“Well it's not suppose to be, I think we should just go home and put our pyjamas on and hang out. I don't know about you but I've had enough Quiddich talk for one day”

“You've read my mind James” I said happily, I was going to have to go to more Quidditch events and get use to this lifestyle but now, I got to go home with my beautiful fiancée.
