For RiverRavenclawSong's 'My taste in music challenge' ; Just say Yes by Snow Patrol.

Just say Yes.

Just say Yes, Lily. I really don't know what I've done to make you feel otherwise.

Okay, maybe I do, but am I really that bad?

... Okay, don't answer that either.

James/Lily ♥

Chapter 1: Just say Yes.
[Printer Friendly Version of This Chapter]

Just say yes.

Just say yes.

It's that simple, Lily. Just say yes.

I don't understand why you hate me so much. What have I done to you?

Well, maybe you shouldn't answer that.

What am I on about - you? I'm sat in an old classroom, talking to myself.

That's always good, isn't it? Talking to yourself. Pads says that's the first sign of madness. Probably is - if he and I do it, it's most definitely the first sign. And the second, and the third, and all the numbers after that.

Because that's basically me and Pads rolled into one.

Slowly, I exit the room, watching my feet put themselves on autopilot and walk towards the Head's common room. The seemingly polished floor's actually scuffed with rubber on wood marks, something I think McGonagall should invent a spell for. It would keep the halls so much cleaner.

Just say there's nothing holding you back

I reach the door, and mumble the password to the superior looking Latin woman. She's almost as bad as the Fat Lady, only a lot slimmer. She's trying to make conversation, but my ears are numb, so I walk straight past.

Lily's in there, I know she is, but I must ignore her. If I talk to her now, I'll completely ruin everything that I've tried to mend. I'm not in a good state of mind right now, and I could probably spout crap for England.

Unfortunately, the stairs do not seem to be up to my standards right now, and I pause in front of them, dumbly.

Like a yeti, I manage to climb the short amount of stairs, but Lily has noticed me, and she calls my name. To her, I'm just a dog, so I follow the sound of her beautiful voice and take a seat next to the fire.

It's not a test

Her beautiful hair falls in perfect waves, and her mouth is moving delicately. I desperately want to reach out, and touch her perfect skin that has been haunting my dreams for years. Sparkling with emotion, her hand is faster than mine, and touches my face, so softly I cannot bear it.

Tilting her head slightly, she questions my health, and I reply in a sarcastic way, trying not to let her see the real face behind my mask.

Not a trick of the mind, only love.

Swallowing in a dry throat, I open my mouth and say something so mind-numbingly stupid that I'm sure she's going to run away any second now.

Blinking, she seems to be unsure of what to say. Her mouth is opening and closing, and I feel so nervous that I'm planning on just getting up and running as fast as I can.

Her eyes stop me. They're shimmering a bright green, and don't hold any intention of leaving. I can't breathe. This is too much.

Just say yes

She starts to talk, but I drag my eyes away from hers, and manage to make it to the bottom of the stairs. My vision was sharp, but my hearing dulled. She hadn't said anything back.

Rejected, for the last time.

Again, the stairs seem like an impossible task. They arch away from the room, breathing in the warm air, and blowing out cold. It stretches away from the Common room like a dungeon corridor would, and it feels like the place to be right now. Although the stairs are not long, they seem difficult to climb, and I'm shocked when I feel a hand on mine, which is clinging to the banister so hard the knuckles have lost all colour.

She's beside me, and she gazing up at me like I'm a star.

She's already a star in my life. Actually, she's the closest star to me, the sun, and she lights up my world daily. She's one of the only reasons that I live my life, aside from my friends. If she wasn't here...

I don't think I'd be here to see this day.

Because I'm aching, and I know you are too

She's one of the only things that got me up in the morning, and kept me going for my life. I have no-one now. Everyone would leave me if they knew who I really was.

She's grasping my arm so tightly I can't bear it. Slowly, I pluck her fingers from my limb and carry on climbing the stairs.

For the touch.

She cries, trying desperately to get me back, probably wanting to slap me around the face. Deciding it would help me get over her, I glide back down the stairs, and face her, my features struggling to stay impassive. Latching my eyes onto her beautiful face, I reach out a hand to brush away a strand of hair that's fallen in her face.

From your warm skin, as I breathe you in

Seconds later, she's pushing her warms hands through my own locks, so close I can smell the perfume coming off her. She shines like a beacon, the light in my dark. She's the one. I've known it since I first saw her.

"James..." She breathes my name again, not needing to say it as loud as we're barely half a meter apart in a silent room.

I can feel your heartbeat through my shirt

Unsure of what this means, I wait. She seems to be taking the lead, and I want to let her.

So I do.

She traces a finger down my face, outlining the stubble that has been collecting from the past few days, result of recent events. Hesitantly, I raise my own hand and stroke the face I've been longing to stroke for years. Although she's stopped moving, I can feel her heartbeat racing, and I suddenly notice how close we've got.

This is all I wanted, all I want

I trace the lines of her face, the plump lips that have turned into a smile, and the full cheeks that are smooth and soft. Her eyes are shining, and I'm almost dead to the world. No-one could snap me out of this state. Not even Padfoot.

Advancing, if possible, further towards her, I suddenly realise that we're entwined. I can't just pull away now.

All I want

I can't pull away from Lily Evans.

All I want

I could never pull away from Lily Evans.

All I want

I could never stop wanting her.

All I want

I never stop wanting her.

She's what I want.

What I'll always want.

"James..." She's whispering, completely lost to the world, same as me.

We're unbelievable close. I don't think it's even possible how much.

"Lily..." I murmur back, my hands slowly running through her hair. She's looking like she wants to say something, but can't. "Something wrong?"

There's a hint of humor in my voice as I'm saying it, but I really can't hide the fear of being dumped, out. The chance is just so high, and I'm waiting for it. Just waiting for it.

"I-.. I'm-"

"Making a mistake?" I suggest, slightly annoyed, pulling away from the beautiful girl that I love with all of my heart. She grabs my arm just as I'm doing so, and pulls me back into our comfortable position, but I'm still wary.

Just say yes

"No." She's whispering again, tickling my cheek. "Never a mistake, James."

I blink, as I feel like part of me's being connected for the first time, but it's been there all along. It's strange.

"I- I don't know." Her big eyes blink, but I silence her by dipping my neck so my forehead is touching hers.

Just say there's nothing holding you back

"Lily..." Her name's like a mantra to me, and whenever anyone says it, I feel a rush of emotions at once. "Lily."

Things explode inside me, love, uncertainty, passion, euphoria.

She's so close, I can't believe it. Suddenly, I can't breathe. This is too much, too quickly.

"James. I-I can't stop."

I'm confused. Can't stop? The imperius curse? That's what this is. Padfoot's stupid idea of a joke.

Tears are creeping up on me, but I'm a man, I do not cry.

Just say yes

"Ask me, James."

My head jerks slightly, but we're so close I can barely move. My eyes are centimeters from hers, and she stares at me, confirming my shock at her statement.

"Ask me what you said before, James."

"I-" I pause, still unsure. "Uh... L-Lily Evans, will-" Then, I'm sure this is a joke, so I breathe deeper.

"It's not a joke, James. Please, just ask again." Her words are so beautifully smooth and convincing that I do as she says.

"L-Lily Evans, will you go out with me?"

She's so close that I'm waiting for the slap that brings me back to reality with a snap, with the harsh sound that seems to be the theme tune to my life.

It's so shocking and amazing in one, that I barely think when I respond.

I kiss her full on the lips, and she kisses me back.

We stand, entwined, for the first time, hoping that this moment will help us win the raging war that going on almost outside of the castle. This is exactly how it should feel to be with her, and how it will feel, forever.

It's not a trick of the mind, only love.

Love. The word that haunts everyone's lives, that makes everyone's day brighter. That one word can make or break lives, make or break wars.

And it's one of the most powerful things on this planet.

Only love.

This story has made me think about their war, and how lucky the people who aren't in wars today are. We don't think about others as often as we should, and it's a crime to pretend they don't exist.

Think about those who are less fortunate than you for 5 minutes a day, and you'll honestly become a better person <3

Hope you enjoyed..!
