Chapter 1: Baby

"Okay, Victoire, you can go now," one of my coworkers, Dr. Gomez, said, opening the door for me."

"Thank you Dr. Gomez," I replied, awkwardly walking out of the exam room.

"Oh, and congratulations."

"Thank you Dr. Gomez."

"Vic, Vic, what did he say?" A receptionist of St. Mungo's, Aimee Smith, pounced on me as soon as I walked into the waiting room area.

"I'm gonna be a mom in nine months!" I squealed.

She hugged me and squealed in my ear.

"Ow!" I said, clutching my ear.

"Sorry," she laughed. "Do you need a ride home?"

"Yeah. I don't really think I could concentrate on Apparating right now. Thanks, Aims," I smiled.

"Okay. I get off in like half an hour. Is that cool?"

"Yeah. I'll just go owl Ted that I'll be a bit late. I don't know if he'll even be home yet, but he'll worry if he is."

I could feel her watching me as I turned around and moved toward the elevators.

"Thanks for the ride Aimee!" I shouted as I opened the door to my appartment.

"Vic, is that you?" someone called from the sitting room

I through my keys on the counter to my small appartment kitchen and walked into the living room, where the love of my life and fiance, Teddy Lupin, was, watching the Muggle television.

I hesitated before saying, "There's something I want to talk to you about..."

He turned away from the TV, muting it, and gave me his full attention.

I usually love it when he gives me his full attention, but right now, it made me slightly uncomfortable.

"Vic? Is something wrong?" Teddy looked at me with so much concern in his eyes that I burst into tears. "Victoire!"

He got off the couch and hugged me. "What's wrong, honey?" his voice was now panicky.

I sniffled and wiped my eyes. "Sorry. That was irrational. I didn't mean to cry."

"Victoire, please, please, please, tell me what's wrong," Teddy put his hands on my shoulders and looked into my eyes, his hair changing from turquoise to a deep purple.

"Well, it's not what's wrong, per se..."

"Then tell me what's going on."

"Okay... I was at St. Mungo's today and - " I started explaining.

Teddy's face became panicked again and he said, "Why? Are you okay? Are you sick?"

"No, I'm not sick. Well, I might be geting morning sickness soon," I tried clueing him in without telling him directly.

"Why would you be getting morning sickness?"

The poor boy is so clueless.

I tried again. "We may also need a bigger appartment or house."

"We need another bedroom."

"Will you please answer my questions!" he burst, apparently fed up with my avoiding answering him. Then, slowly but surely, his face lit up in realization.

"You're getting there, aren't you?" I said, amused.

"You... You're... I'm a... I need to sit down."

I laughed and helped him over to the couch, which was, like, two steps away, but he looked pretty weak.

"Did you finally figure it out, love?"

He nodded, staring at the muted TV.

"And what exactly did you figure out?"

"That you... I'm gonna be... Baby."

"Very good."

He nodded again and my stomach fell to my feet as I thought of something.

"What do you think of that?" I asked tentatively.

"I think I like it."

"You think."

Ted looked at me, thinking.

"I know I like it."

I breathed a sigh of relief.

He leaned forward for a hug, which I gratefully leaned into.
