Chapter 1: Babies & Pink Hair
[Printer Friendly Version of This Chapter]

I’m planning to do the story of how Teddy and Victoire became what they were in 2017, and plan to end it at the famous Platform 93/4 scene. If I actually get there, that is.
Wow this is getting long. Enjoy the first chapter!

In this story, some things need to be explained…

I kind of took it for granted that Teddy was almost “part of” the Weasley-Potter family group, and is almost like a cousin to all of the ACTUAL cousins. He’s always around them and is invited to all the family events and stuff- obviously, cause Harry’s his godfather. He lives with his grandmother, Andromeda Tonks.

For the first chapter(s), I’m going to do it in third person narrative, but when Teddy and Victoire get older there are going to be VPOVs and TPOVs. Exciting, huh ;-)
This chapter is part Victoire and Teddy at 5 and 7 years old, and part Victoire and Teddy at 9 and 11.

“Stop pushing me, Teddy! I want- “ Push. “- to see!”

“I’m older so you have to do what I say.”

“Te-DDY. That’s not true and you know it.”

“Ask anybody. We have to listen to older people so you have to listen to me. And I say get out of my way. I want to see!” Push.

“Te-DDY! I’m telling mummy!” Victoire Weasley, age five, flipped her hair and stalked off. She soon came back with a disgruntled Fleur Weasley, hands full with a stack of baby blankets and a bottle. “Vat do you want, dears? I am busy right now-”

“Teddy is pushing me AND won’t let me see.” Victoire dissolved into a flood of tears. Unsurprisingly, her eyes weren’t wet.

“B-but- she pushed me first! And everybody knows that those are fake, Vicky!”

“Children, children, today ees a day of happiness! Come with me. I shall show you your new cousin.”

Sticking her tongue out at Teddy Lupin, Victoire grabbed her mother’s hand and was led to the side of the cradle whose insides her and Teddy were so curious to see. Teddy followed.

“Your new cousin James, Victoire. And of course, Teddy, he will be like a cousin for you too –“

“He’s wrinkly and small! Ewww, gross!” Victoire squealed.

“That’s what YOU looked like when you were a baby! You were uuuuug-ly!”

“How do you know?”

“I was already born!” Teddy puffed up his chest, clearly proud of the mere two years difference between him and Victoire; a difference he never ceased to hold over her head.

“You don’t even remember, Teddy. And you were probably uglier anyways!”

Right when Teddy looked like he was about to push her again – and Victoire looked ready to retaliate – Harry came over.

“Uncle Harry!” Victoire jumped into her uncle’s arms.

“Hey Vicky! Teddy! Are you guys excited for your new cousin?” Harry had such a post-natal glow to him it looked like he’d just given birth, rather than his wife, who was lying in bed. His happiness was contagious, and Teddy couldn’t help forgetting about his altercation with Victoire, and grinning sheepishly.

“James is really cute.” He offered.

“Do you want to hold him?” Harry carefully picked up his newborn child and cautiously deposited it in the seven-year-old’s arms.

Teddy rocked the baby in his arms, looking in its eyes and humming softly.

“Hahahha! TEDDY’S SINGING TO THE BABY!” for some reason, Victoire found this hilarious and started chanting, “Ted-dy’s sing-ing, Ted-dy’s singing!”

Teddy wasn’t quite sure what he was doing to deserve the ridicule, but knew he had to get her back, for dignity’s sake. He carefully gave James back to his father and chased after Victoire, who was already tearing down the stairs.

He had her on the ground and had a handful of blonde hair tightly wound in his fist when George Weasley stopped him.

“Careful, Ted. You know you never hit a girl!” He helped his niece up from the ground, and then shook Teddy’s hand. “Did you kids see James?”

“Yep! He’s UGGG-ly. All tiny and wrinkly and pink-”

“All babies are like that, Vic. You were the same for the first couple of weeks.”

“Told you,” Teddy smirked.

“Oh yeah? You were singing. To a BABY.” Victoire took one look at Teddy’s face and sprinted out the door.

“It’s not fair you get to go to Hogwarts before me. You’ll be able to find your way around before me and then when we have the hide and seek game we planned you’ll beat me!”

“Being older gives you privileges, Vicky. Don’t worry… I’ll send you letters. IF I have time. I’ll be having too much fun, I expect…” Teddy smirked, trying to look superior, but when his hair started changing colors, you could tell he was nervous.

“Hey Ted, your hair’s purple!”

“What? What? Oh, no, not that again! I hate it when that happens!” Teddy scrunched up his eyes in concentration and returned his hair to a normal-looking dark brown.

They were standing on Platform 93/4, surrounded by Victoire’s relatives. Teddy was the first of the next generation to go off to Hogwarts, so the entire Weasley-Potter-Granger-Delacour-etc. clan had come to see him off. Teddy tried not to show how appreciative he was, but his slightly shaking hand gave him away.

“Ready, Ted?” Harry came over and put a comforting arm around him. “Don’t be nervous. In a couple of years, Victoire is going to join you, and then everyone is going to follow.” Behind him, a four-year-old James was holding his mother’s hand, looking around in wonder, as Ginny cradled a one-year-old Lily in her other arm. Close by, her brother Albus and cousins Rose, Fred and Dominique were chasing each other around, oblivious to Hermione’s pleas for obedience.

A warning blast of the Hogwarts Express made Teddy start, causing Victoire to dissolve into nearly hysterical laughter. “Yeah Teddy, you’re soooo confident.” She giggled. Even at nine years old, she had the playfulness and audacity of her mother.

“You should be getting on the train, Teddy. Wouldn’t want to miss it.” Ron said, grinning at Harry as they shared a private joke.

“Y-yeah, I guess I do have to leave.” Teddy gripped the handle of his new owl cage tightly, trying to mask his anxiety. Unfortunately, this was hard to do, with his hair changing rapidly from turquoise to violent pink, and back again.

Victoire giggled, then suddenly turned serious. Notwithstanding their teasing and fights, they were good friends. “Good luck, Teddy. You’ll make tons of new friends. I can sniff it.” She sniffed the air dramatically, hoping to elicit a laugh.

Teddy smiled tightly and, with a deep breath, turned to face the group that had come to see him off. “Well… bye guys,” he said.

Harry, Ginny, Ron, Hermione, Bill, Fleur, George, Angelina, and the children all enveloped Teddy in a giant hug, which turned him a delicate shade of pink, though admittedly comforting him a little.

Amidst a chorus of voices wishing him good luck, Teddy stumbled toward the Hogwarts Express, but not before Harry stopped him.

“I know your first year can be hectic, but try to write me once in a while. I remember mine, and it would have comforted me to have Sirius to write to during that time.” Harry had a misty look in his eyes, and Teddy started to get uncomfortable.

“Thanks, Harry. I-I’ll write.”

Victoire ran up to them and gave Teddy a bear hug. “Have fun, Teddykins. Try to write me, okay?”

“Alrighty, Vickykins”

With Harry’s help, he got his trunk on the train, and he followed soon after. Turning once more, he smiled at Victoire and then to the people he considered his family.
